On Sunday, I woke up way too late, played some pop'n, worked on some baseball research, went off to hang out with Oren. We got Chipotle for dinner and watched the first two episodes of Gokusen, which were pretty funny. Nakama Yukie owns you.

Today, despite not falling asleep until superlate, I managed to almost get up on time to make it in for the 9:30 meeting (I got in at 9:55), and Jack and I spent the day at work pair programming to finish off a program I started last week. Unfortunately I was tired and totally zonked out around 4:30pm.

In the evening I played some puzzle pirates and I went to the gym, where I did my entire lifting routine despite having done it on Friday, and I also brought a book so I could walk/jog on the treadmills for 20 minutes. I ran into some people from volleyball.

Tomorrow I would vaguely like to go try to catch the start of the Mariners caravan at IKEA since they'll have Moyer, Sherrill, and Putz there signing stuff... we'll see if I can swing that.

(A sequel to the 2004 song)
(The chorus comes from the Mariners announcer Dave Niehaus, well known for his "MY OH MY!" yells when calling out exciting plays.)

Ladies and Gentlemen, your 2005 Seattle Mariners
To the tune of "The Boxer" by Simon and Garfunkel
New lyrics by Deanna "Marinerd" Rubin

I am just a fangirl, and my story's pretty dull
I have wandered all through Safeco
With a scorecard full of scribbles, such are summaries.
Games won and lost, still the team appears like it did last year,
In disregard to cost, hmmm...

When they started this season's tragedy, things were looking pretty good
With a couple big free agents
And the rookies from Tacoma seemed so talented.
Then, oh no! Dan's leg twisted, Bobby's arm blew out, and Miguel Olivo
Hit about as well as freakin' Spiezio.

My oh my...

Asking only for replacement, we go looking to trade Winn, but we get no offers
Just a prospect and a catcher named JoeJessica
I do declare, of the moves done at the trade deadline,
I think we got screwed there

Now the crowds abandon Safeco, an attendance drop you'll see,
They are smaller than they once were, and larger than they'll be, that's not unusual.
Yo, it's pretty strange, after bringing up King Felix, we are more or less the same
Roster changes, and we're still completely lame.

My oh my...

And we're calling up our minor leagues, Betancourt and Morse, Dobbs and Doyle,
'Cause our players have been plagued with inability... and injury, whoa-oh...

Out on home plate stands a catcher, after twelve years he has played
He's our very last reminder of the Mariners that made it to the playoffs
In the nineties
And they brought Seattle fame
Now we're scheming and we're dreaming
But the cold fact still remains:
We lost tons of games.

Today, the Mariners went and signed the cutest left-handed pitcher in the AL. Unfortunately, they signed him for something like 4 years and $37 million, but well, after the Carl Everett signing, nobody has any idea what the heck Bavasi is thinking.

Ah well. I ♥ Jarrod Washburn even if he'll most likely be a useless junkballing 36-year-old lefty by the time this contract ends. His eyes are SO BLUE! SO BLUE!

I actually spent today at work reading documentation that someone else wrote. How weird :) After work I went to the gym, ostensibly with Megan and Heidi, but I must have totally missed Megan. Heidi showed up about 15-20 minutes after me though, so we worked through a lot of weights together, and some cardio. I upped my weights on the single lat and I actually did 15 reps in EVERYTHING. Maybe it was a bad idea, but things seemed easy tonight for whatever reason. Some weeks I'm great at lifting, some weeks I'm awful at it.

The rest of the evening was spent reading up on the Washburn signing, goofing off on Puzzle Pirates a little bit (my tailor is upgraded!!!), and umm... an art project that I can't discuss right this minute. Every now and then it's really good to just sit down and draw some stuff.

Today was rainy. Jack helped me with a bunch of database stuff today at work. We solved the problem I'd been stuck on. That was great. Right afterwards, my parents called -- they were downstairs, and we were going to the Mariners game tonight.

It was Fan Appreciation Night, but really, it was Dan Appreciation Night, since Dan Wilson was catching one last inning before retiring. He wanted to catch Jamie Moyer, since they've been battery-mates for a whopping 191 games in the last decade. And as he was swapped out of the game in the second inning, and hugged Jamie, then came into the dugout and hugged all the players, then did a curtain call, I swear, not an eye in the park was dry. Moyer later even commented that he'd never had to throw warmup pitches with tears in his eyes before.

(After I got home, I downloaded this picture of the hug, from ESPN, and printed it out and put it up on my wall, as yet another one of those "Why I love this game" sort of reminders. Heck, it almost makes me all weepy yet again just looking over at it.)

As it is, the Mariners totally kicked butt tonight, whomping the A's 4-1. Ichiro went 4-for-5, meaning I got to see him get his 199th, 200th, 201st, and 202nd hits of the year, which set a record for him being the only player in MLB history who managed 200 hits in each of his first five seasons. Oddly, this day last year, I was at Fan Appreciation Night with Brian R, and we watched Ichiro go 3-for-4 and get his 257th, 258th, and 259th hits of the season, breaking George Sisler's 84-year-old single-season hit record. It was cool. Both times.

Fan Appreciation prizes included things like a Mariner Moose office party, and getting to mow the lawn at Safeco Field. I am not making that up. Also, in the 9th inning Hiram Bocachica came up to pinch-hit for the A's. Wooooo, it's Bocachica time!

But really, the night belonged to Dan Wilson. I may have missed your glory years, Mr. The Man, but at least I got to see you while you still had some kick left. Here's to another great guy and great ballplayer -- and many more years with the Mariners organization in other capacities, hopefully.

After the game, we shuttled back to Northgate, where I'd parked this morning, and my parents came over here for a little while. I fed them cupcakes, and lent my mom a book, and hung out a bit, and then I took them back to their hotel, where my mom gave me several brown-bag breakfasts, and coupons, and other leftovers. Whee. The funny part is, I'm betting I'll go to sleep around 3am when they have to wake up to get their flight back home.

Ah, baseball. What a beautiful game. (Also, GO PHILLIES! YOU'RE STILL IN IT!)

I seem to be updating this every-other-day nowadays. I wonder if this is better or worse for people's friends pages?

Yesterday, Nick and I went to the Mariners game, and after a whole week in Seattle, he finally got to see the goddamn Mariners actually win a frickin' game. Even weirder, the Mariners swept the series from the Angels. Tim Salmon was there working out with the Angels though, and it was good to see him! He signed my poster. Angels poster final signature count for the year: 9. I should tally my baseball autographs in general at some point. I'm pretty proud of myself for not being completely frightened of players anymore. The sad part is, I think I've gotten around 20-30 guys to sign stuff for me, and absolutely none of them are Mariners (unless Jeff Clement counts...). I also ran into the crazy Mariners stalker lady from the airport two weeks ago! She was there with her other Mariners stalker friends, and recognized me and waved to me to come over and chat, so I did. It was pretty funny, they were saying how they'd cornered Richie Sexson earlier, and why didn't I show up before 5pm? Heh.

This morning I fell out of bed at 7:15am to take Nick back to the airport, and the dumb part is, by the time I drove him down there and drove back home, through all the traffic, and then showered and changed and got ready for work, I still didn't reach my desk until 10:15am.

I stayed at work fairly late though, and then I played volleyball tonight, after a two-week hiatus. I had a pretty good time. I served overhand for most of the night and after a rocky first game, got most of my serves over the net, even though very few would have gone past a ten-foot line. However, now I aaaaaaaaache. And tomorrow I'm going to go lift weights anyway.

Arr.

I'm pondering visiting Austin for Christmas or New Year's or something around then again, and maybe going to Pittsburgh for Thanksgiving again, depending. I suppose I'll have to talk things over with my mom when she's out here in a week or two.

Oh! And my friend Django ([profile] ketsugami, for those that don't know him) has his first published book "Memories of Empire" now orderable on Amazon, so here's the link to his book because I think it's cool! It's so exciting when someone from an old writing group is successful like this! :)

Sunday, we went to see Felix pitching against the Orioles. We sat in section 127, row 12, which was amazing, but the Mariners lost, which was not amazing. I got a cool picture of me and my friend Conor being the uber Felix fans we are.

Nick and I walked around Greenlake after that, and we went to Blue C for dinner so I could show it to him. Then we chased the sunset, but didn't catch it in time. I forgot how early it gets dark here now.

We were supposed to go swing dancing, but didn't; we were too tired.

Today, after work, I got dinner with George and Jarrett and Megan and Josh at the Elysian Brewery, and then George had to go to the airport to go home and all.

Dan Wilson announced his retirement today, so I wrote some alternate lyrics to "Danny Boy" for him:

Oh Danny Boy, the fans, the fans are calling
From seat to seat, and down the first-base line
The summer's gone, and pennant hopes are dying
'Tis you, 'tis you must go and we'll be fine.
But come ye back when summer's high at Safeco
Or when the mood is hushed and scores are low
'Cause we'll be here in sunshine or in shadow
Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, we'll miss you so.

Yesterday, I went to lunch with [profile] meerkat299 and [profile] georgejas, the latter of whom is in town this weekend but was going off for most of the real weekend to be camping with Megan and whoever. We went to Soup Daddy. They didn't have any of the soups I like. They say I should call and find out when they have the ones I like; I think it'd be more useful if they had like, a soup warning service you could sign up for, like they'd email you in the morning if they had the specific soups you were watching for.

After work, Oren picked me up, and we went to Taste of India for dinner with Nick. We drank a LOT of chai. It ruled.

Watched "Major League" after that - god I love that movie, but I wish it didn't remind me of the Philadelphia Phillies this year. Ryan Howard is Cerrano, David Bell is Rodger Dorn, Mike Lieberthal is Jake Taylor, etc.

Drew and Jason came by as we were finishing the movie, and they played Tichu with me and Nick, since Oren decided to go home. Yay for Tichu!

Today, we went to the east side, and got lunch at Thai Chef with Drew and Jason after an adventure involving Drew getting a flat tire on 520 and stuff. Oops. Played Ticket to Ride over at Drew's place, along with a friend of Nick's (Shaheen? I forget his name). Drew won the game but I completed a metric assload of tickets for 68 points plus my 46 points in tracks. Not too shabby.

I have an Orbital CD to give to Eli, returned from Drew.

Nick and I went to the Mariners game. It sucked. Game review's in the normal place. Tomorrow is Felix. We will be there. Oh yes, we will be there.
You see, here's the thing. New Orleans is wrecked. I have never been to New Orleans, so I can't even really understand the magnitude of this. It makes me feel bad, but at the same time, aside from giving a few bucks to people who were collecting for hurricane relief before the Mariners game tonight, I'm not sure what I personally can do right now about it.

Life is like that. When I was 12, the idea of a flood destroying the inner workings of a metropolis was really just another way that Simcity was keeping me up all night.

In my world, I'm baking cupcakes to bring to the Loewens' house tomorrow, since I finally will get to see their newborn baby, and hang out with people. I went to the Mariners game tonight, where King Felix lost to King Ugly, 2-0, in front of a sellout crowd of 46,240. Ficus's email had me marked as spam, so I bought a ticket yesterday, not knowing he had a ticket I could use. Oops. On the other hand, I finally got to experience the Terrace Club, which has, count 'em, seven types of mustard you can put on your hot dog - honey mustard, sweet hot mustard, spicy brown mustard, cranberry mustard, dijon mustard, deli mustard, and yellow mustard. I am not making this up.

Unfortunately, DMZ seems to have decided that hanging out with the peons is no longer fun, so there was no pregame hangout at King Street, and thus I didn't run into anyone else from the blogosphere, except for Jon Wells, who was selling his "Seattle Battle" shirts with Felix and Randy Johnson on them. I also didn't hang out at the bullpen for a lot of the pregame, because it was crowded as fuck, and that was like, 45 minutes before game time. I *did* get a lot of great comments on my shirt though, stuff like "I'd vote for him!" or "Yeah! Felix! Pedro sucks!" The funniest was when I went by people wearing "Vote for Pedro" shirts -- usually they'd just kinda nod/smile, and then suddenly realize that heh, my shirt was a LITTLE different.

I had these annoying loud Oakland fans sitting behind me up in the Terrace Club, so I bailed on that seat during the 7th inning stretch and came down to sit with Megan and Josh and Ficus instead. That was fun. I had an "obstructed" seat in the front row of the terrace club. It was really good. I think the level is still overpriced, but I do think it's a cool place to be, maybe on those discount days.

It is so fucking cool to get a wedding invitation that starts, "____ and ____ invite you to join the celebration, and root root root for the home team, as their daughter ____ marries _____..."

I've been blogging a lot, just not here. My life is boring, you know, but I get to pretend to be "Seattle's Bat-Girl" elsewhere. I don't have nearly enough sass or wit, though.

Monday I dragged Josh, Megan, and Ficus to the Mariners-Royals game so we could see Felix Hernandez kick butt. (As you can guess from the preceding post; I joked I'm writing a chapter after each of his starts.) Fun stuff. We hung out with some people from the local Mariners blogosphere at a bar beforehand. Jonah wore his Nippon Ham Fighters jersey. He's my hero. I was a little more outgoing this time. Whee.

Tuesday, Megan and I went to the gym to lift arm weights, and I walked home, and I did errands like food shopping, and I meant to go get a softball glove, but didn't make it in time. I wrote more story. Whee.

Wednesday, I meant to go shopping again, but didn't due to the 5 bus being like half an hour late, but I did go to the gym and played volleyball for two hours. I feel like I'm getting some of my old skills back... and I'll probly be pretty sore tomorrow :)

I've been logged into PP in the later evenings if anyone's been looking for me... though I think the apoth business will dry up again pretty soon. Arr.

Today I went to the Angels-Mariners game with Oren. We saw [personal profile] jcreed playing center field and kicking butt! He was really good. You should have seen this awesome running catch he made in the 6th inning.

The Mariners at least only lost this game by one run. I'll spare you guys the details; it'll be in the usual spot if you want to read my baseball writing, as you know. Though, I will link for the benefit of Bayani and Megan, the coolest picture of Jason Kendall ever.

After the game, Oren and I hung out and watched the Cardinals-Cubs game on TV for a while, and then decided to go up to Taste of India for dinner, where I discovered something super-awesome: TOI UNLIMITED ICED CHAI! Holy crap, as if it wasn't awesome enough when they have normal hot unlimited chai, they have iced unlimited chai too! Woo.

I was supposed to pick up Josh and Megan from the airport tonight, but they appear to be stranded in Las Vegas. Maybe that means I'll actually go to sleep soon instead, once I finish writing up the game.
This afternoon I went to the Angels-Mariners game with Drew, Jason, and Drew's dad. The game sucked (9-1), except when Ichiro hit a home run that bounced off Vladimir Guerrero's glove and made him punch the wall in annoyance. Jason showed us a cool coffeeshop in Pioneer Square called Zeitgeist that I'll have to remember for the future.

This evening, I went out to dinner at Chinook's with Will Frank and Dale Newfield. It was good to catch up with them. Dale's homeless and driving around all over the country; I kind of envy him and at the same time would be terrified to do the same thing.

I got a postcard from Nick from Scotland. Looks like it took approximately a week and a half to get here?

Thursday: Gym with Heidi; just did leg weights, and a little bit of treadmill. Afterwards I went shopping, kinda, well, I went to Half Price Books, and couldn't find any of the stuff I wanted, so I decided to just not buy anything. Grabbed dinner at Chipotle after that and sat around writing that baseball HP parody. Sailed some hemp oil in PP -- this turning the game into Animal Crossing is doing wonders for the apothecary business, lemme tell you.

Friday: Went to Angels-Mariners game. Added 2 more signatures to my poster for a total of 7. Went alone, ended up sitting next to a guy about my age and his mom. After a bunch of conversation spins, it turns out that the guy used to work at Quarters, the arcade in Kirkland (so he remembered a lot of the oldskool Seattle DDR people), and he even currently works at a videogame company, heh. I ended up talking with them for most of the game, we geeked out about videogames and baseball, and it was a lot of fun.

(For the question Megan will ask: no, the guy was wearing a wedding ring. For the question the DDR people will ask: I think he said his name was Ryan?)

Oh yeah, and the Angels won 9-4 after the Mariners bullpen imploded in the 8th inning. Vladimir Guerrero hit a home run so far I thought it might actually go out of Safeco Field. Scot Shields is the nicest baseball player I have ever seen in my entire life; he kept making a point of giving baseballs to little children, and he also stayed around and signed stuff for ninety billion people.

Chris Snelling may be out for the season. I cry.

I love it when I'm like, editing Perl code, and suddenly the line I've been trying to come up with for a song pops into my head. This is about the Mariners' new 19-year-old phenom pitcher, who made his first major league start yesterday, and who the blogosphere refers to as "King Felix", so...

King Felix
(to the tune of "Prince Ali" from Aladdin)

Hey! Clear the way in the baseball park
Hey you! Let us through!
It's a bright new star!
Oh, come, see the first at the plate that he'll destroy

Make way, here he comes!
Ring bells! Bang the drums!
Are you gonna love this boy!

It's the king! Everyone sing!
Felix Hernandez.
Write a K in for the play
Definitely.
We'll see the King taking aim
At home in next Tuesday's game
So come and watch this spectacular battery!

It's the king! Everyone sing!
Felix Hernandez.
He'll get ten bat-swinging men
Down on strike three.
He faced the PCL trench
A hundred strikeouts commenced
Who sent those guys to their bench?
Why, it's the king.

He was 9 and 4 down in Tacoma
   (Ain't he amazing, Rick?)
Home runs on him? Gave up only three
(Fabulous, Fairly, I love his curveballs.)
He sure earned his minor league diploma
How's he gonna do?
I'm telling you,
he's a twenty-win guarantee!

It's the king, everyone sing, Felix Hernandez
   (There's no question he's a pitching genius)
That physique, how can I speak,
(And they say that he's only nineteen, yes?)
Powerfully.
(Everything about the guy just plain impresses)
Well, get on out to the Safe
   (He's a phenom, he's so great, a wonder)
And sit there in disbelief
(He will tear opposing bats asunder)
We'll hail our new pitching chief, our Felix king.
(And I absolutely love the way he dresses!)

He walked ninety-six guys in the minors
(Well, in the minors, they must be whiners)
But in strikeouts, got three-sixty-three
   (They're numerous, so numerous!)
And his curveball's got movement like shiners
   (Bounces down for him)
It hops to the plate, they swing too late
They're just jumpy with jealousy for the King! He's the King!

He's the king! Everyone sing!
Felix Hernandez!
Heard that Safeco was a sight awful to see
And that, Seattle, is why
He suited up and dropped by
With tricks abundant, and power galore
With his curves and sliders,
A fastball and more
So this pitching gala from Venezuela
A revolution he'll bring
Make way, for he's our King!

Yeah. It was fun. The Mariners lost and I didn't even care. Writeup's on Marinerds. For the stitchers, you should just look at the pictures (click on the one I posted here), since it'll pretty much show what kind of stuff they had. There were basically a whole bunch of tables up on the Lookout Landing deck with yarn and other craft stuff, including a lady who was spinning wool into yarn. It was neat. My friends and I went and knitted and watched the game, and Beckie even won one of the cool raffle prizes -- those were seriously nice kits, with lots of yarn and needles and patterns and other stuff.

I just got email about this since I'm on the Mariners mailing list. How cool is that?

http://www.pacificfabrics.com/Events/ says that if we get tickets from their stores, we also get a free stitch'n'pitch t-shirt.

So cool! I hope I can find other people to go with me.

This is the second installment in "Mariners! The Musical", a work in progress. I've tried to differentiate talking and singing by having spoken words be in italics... this one is kind of a tough one to represent visually.

"Ball", to the tune of "Belle", from Beauty and the Beast

(It is pre-game at Safeco Field. Jennifer, ballgirl for the Mariners, walks out of the dugout at a gleaming, lovely Seattle evening sky, and sings:)

[Ballgirl:]
Little park
After batting practice
Every game
Eighty-one in all
Little park
Full of guys in black shirts
Walking up to say:

[Umpires:]
Play ball!
Play ball!
Play ball! Play ball! Play ball!

Cut because it's long, but if you know the music from Beauty and the Beast, you may enjoy this )
dr4b: (quixotic)
I feel very braindead, which sucks. I want to write about tonight's Mariners-Orioles game, where Oren and I saw Rafael Palmeiro get his 2999th career hit (but not his 3000th), and about a conspiracy theory on starters and closers that I thought of today, and post some trivia and a bit of cool stuff from a new baseball site I found today.

But instead I'm just going to say: who syndicated [profile] marinerd_feed? Well -- I guess for those of you wondering where you can read my Seattle Marinerds baseball blog syndicated -- that'd be your answer.

(also, I wrote a rant about Eric Byrnes getting traded to Colorado today. I saw Chad Bradford, who was traded to the Red Sox, pitch against the Yankees on the big screen at Safeco before the game. I was really excited, but nobody around me seemed to understand why. I mean, a submarine pitcher is COOL. Why is that so hard to understand?)

I have a great idea for a parody song too which maaaaaybe I'll crank out here while it's on my mind, but don't count on it.

Seriously, though, I am incredibly mentally shot. I don't know why. [profile] bhudson shows up tomorrow night though, and it'll be fun to hang out with him again. Raar. But my apartment is still a mess because I've been so dead tired all week. Bleh.

I always get [personal profile] oren and [personal profile] shandrew's birthdays backwards in my head, doh. And I didn't even know today was Rome's birthday too. Oops.

Oh! I made three new LJ icons when I got home tonight, on a whim. "quixotic" is the one I am posting this with. There is also "abstract" and "phantom camera". I decided I needed more emotions and random images, that weren't PP-related, since I had like 25 PP icons alone.

oh -- and this morning's chai was from Specialty's, which was a good call since it's such a good bakery too, so I got a yummy muffin, too. was probly the best chai of the coffeehouses so far but still pretty generic.

yeah. mentally gone. 'night.
dr4b: (mariners)
I wore the outfit I bought yesterday to work today! It actually looked very good and is very comfortable. Dammit, Megan's always right.

This morning's chai came from Seattle's Best Coffee at 4th and whatever. The chai was just as generic as every other coffee shop, which isn't entirely unexpected. The guy who took my order said, "Can I have a name for your order?" and I said "er, Deanna," and he goes "Huh... what's your last name? I swear to god, you're a dead ringer for my ex-girlfriend." I told him my name, then said "If you were from Pittsburgh, you'd know who I was."

Hm, after work I walked down to Safeco Field to see the results of our deBooneification. It's surprisingly small, actually:

- Pokey Reese's face is now on Player's Row on the stadium side instead of Boone
- All the Boone merchandise in the team store is 50% off (which is still gratuitously expensive, I'd buy a Boone t-shirt if it was $5, not $10)
- Hahahahahahaha, the June 2005 issue of Mariners Magazine has him on the cover and they seem to be hiding the issues. Cover boy in June, DFA'ed in July. Nice going.

(Oh yeah, and he's been traded to the Twins for a PTBNL. Can we PLEEEEEEEEEEEASE have Joe Mauer? Or Justin Morneau? Please? I swear I'll be very very good and attend every game and never wear an opposing team t-shirt again. I'll clean the stadium after class and write "I will not make fun of Willie Bloomquist" on the board a hundred times.)

I'm a lot less bitter over this than I was when they DFA'ed Olerud last year. That SUCKED. Especially the part where he went on to kick our butts while playing on the Yankees later in the year.

Anyway, um, I walked uptown from the stadium and caught the 5 bus. I decided I would stop off at Red Mill for dinner, except, oops, it's Monday, so they're closed. Ah well, it was nice out and an excuse to walk another mile home. So I called Mori to order dinner from there, except, crap, they're ALSO closed on Monday! Dammit. I ended up stopping in at Olive You, the mediterranean place a block from here, which I'd never had an excuse to go in before, but at least it's open on Mondays. All I got was some pitas and hummus, because I wasn't really in a decisive mood... it was pretty damn tasty though.

Where'd the evening go? Crap... all I think I accomplished was building my last bookcase, fighting some skellies on PP, and chatting with Charlie for a while. Grrr.

I really want to write an article about baseball for Marinerds, but I'm just feeling creatively shot lately for some reason. I did finish reading my other library book today, and they're due on the 15th, so go me -- I can return them tomorrow and get back to my queue, in theory.
dr4b: (mariners)
This morning I got up and ran around Greenlake. No, seriously. I didn't like, run the whole time, I mostly would run for 30-60 seconds, then walk for a minute or two, then run, then walk, but I ran, I really did. I should do that more and build up stamina.

[personal profile] oren asked if I'd want to check out a supposed Philly cheesesteak place in the u-district. We went there and it turned out to be closed. Oops. So we got lunch at Chipotle instead. Mm, Chipotle.

Oren has a bigger car than I do, so he offered to take me to IKEA, so we did that. My goal had been to get a new dresser or wardrobe or something to keep t-shirts in, but I wasn't really quite happy with anything I saw there, so I decided to continue thinking it over. What I did get was three new bookcases, which can go under the counter and in the hallway and things like that. Trust me, they fit. So now I have some more shelf space. I might make the hallway bookcase my baseball bookcase, maybe.

While I built bookcases and did laundry, Oren hung out here and played Kingdom Hearts. It took me like an hour to figure out why the voice of Sora sounded so familiar (it's Haley Joel Osment), and the Disney voices are pretty funny.

I still have a lot of cleaning to do. I feel uninspired.

I actually logged into PP and pillaged for an hour tonight. I think that was like, one of the first times I'd actually played any of the puzzles in about three weeks. I just can't make myself care about the game at all anymore, really.

Somehow the Mariners have managed to take the last 3 games from the AL-West-leading Angels, which is crazy. Jamie Moyer got his 200th career win over my favorite blue-eyed pitcher last night, and the M's actually bothered giving Ryan Franklin some run support today. Crazy. I had started writing an article about "Willie Bloomquist the Washburn-killer" but then USSM beat me to the punch. Dammit!

arrrrr

Jun. 23rd, 2005 01:59 am
I'm gonna write this super-fast or try to at least. We'll see.

This morning, it was raining. I also overslept -- I woke up at 8:30 instead of 7:45. How odd to think things like that. I got to Northgate at 9ish, but finding parking sucked so I missed the 9:04 bus by like two minutes. It was raining. I got drenched. I got more drenched while walking from the busway to work.

But work was good. I wrote more code today! Wheeee.

Edgars went to the Mariners - A's game with me tonight. I bought a Mariners mug so I'll have a good mug to drink tea from at work. I also failed to see Jason Kendall before the game again. I wrote an entry on Marinerds about the game and I don't have time to summarize it here, aside from "Extra innings! We win! Arr!"

The guy who sits in the seats next to mine, who had mentioned there being 20 ways for a player to reach first, actually found the rulebook chapter for me and printed it out and brought it to the game. It was pretty funny. It includes things such as "if a game is suspended with a runner on first and that player is traded prior to the makeup game, another player can take his place". Oi.

It was good to see Edgars, and good to go to the game.

I also baked brownies when I got home for D&D tomorrow, which really didn't take that long, but I've been trying to catch up on all the online stuff I ignored all day while at work and at the baseball game. I guess it'll be better in future days since I don't have another home game until July 14th. It has been a pretty crazy hectic full week for me. I'm still not sure what I'm up to this weekend though.

I had a really weird conversation online before I went to sleep yesterday which raised a lot of strange meta things, but I really need to sleep now instead of talking about it.
