House of Slack goes to Stitch'n'Pitch Night

Yeah. It was fun. The Mariners lost and I didn't even care. Writeup's on Marinerds. For the stitchers, you should just look at the pictures (click on the one I posted here), since it'll pretty much show what kind of stuff they had. There were basically a whole bunch of tables up on the Lookout Landing deck with yarn and other craft stuff, including a lady who was spinning wool into yarn. It was neat. My friends and I went and knitted and watched the game, and Beckie even won one of the cool raffle prizes -- those were seriously nice kits, with lots of yarn and needles and patterns and other stuff.

I'm convinced that book in the picture says "Stitch 'N Bitch", not "Stitch 'N Pitch". They should have picked a different font. :)

The book actually *does* say that. Stitch'n'Bitch is a series of books (and social gatherings, I guess, where they based it from? where women get together and work on crafts and chat and stuff), and that's where they got the clever pun for Stitch'n'Pitch from, see. But no, the book is SNB, the event was SNP...

You know, knitting is all fine and dandy for those into it. No problem. The only problem is that..

THIS IS A BASEBALL GAME!

Same with the "Ladies Night" they had a couple weeks ago. Give me a break.

Get over yourself. I paid more attention to the baseball game when i was knitting last night that a lot of people do when they're there 'for the game'. I show up for the first pitch, stay for the last pitch, and root for the home team (mostly). If i choose to bring some knitting, or some ladies, with me, thats my business. At least i'm not the jackass getting drunk behind you and mis-prounouncing the pitchers name.

They have a lot more ridiculous promotions. Trust me. This one was both clever, effective, and put about 400-500 butts into seats that wouldn't have been there otherwise.

They'd actually love it if more females attend games. Plenty do already, but it can't hurt to have more female-oriented promotions; let's face it, SNP night was the night before "workout t-shirt night".

And actually, I was there for Country Music Night last year, which was really a ton more disturbing -- they photoshopped all the players into wearing cowboy hats, played country music all night, had a bunch of country music promoters around, etc.. you couldn't escape! With SNP, it was isolated to the upper left field seats; I'm pretty sure half the stadium wasn't even aware of what was going on per se. It's not like they forced everyone in the stadium to come knit with them, and it's not like you would have even seen any more knitters than usual if you weren't sitting up in our sections.

Oh, and don't get me started on Bark in the Park night from the Wednesday game at the Everett Aquasox I went to. I mean, cmon, you didn't comment "THIS IS A BASEBALL GAME, GIVE ME A BREAK" to that -- but seriously, they had 1722 people and 348 dogs attend it. I continually had my view blocked by people who walked by because they had to go walk their dogs every 10 minutes.

It happens. When your team is losing, and not selling out games, sometimes they have to stretch for promotions. I think the Texas Rangers had a "hot pants" night in 1974 or so where they'd give free admission to women wearing Daisy Dukes, and I think there was cheap beer that night too. I can only imagine how horrendous that must have turned out...
