Fight-Oh!

LJ keeps losing its cookies, and thus I keep not seeing friends-only posts, and accidentally posting anonymous. It's pissing me off.

Umm, not much to say. After volleyball yesterday I ended up spending the evening at home playing Pop'n'Music and writing, rather than watching Gokusen, so as a result, I ended up watching Gokusen tonight instead. Oren and I got through three more episodes of it. That Jun Matsumoto kid is just too cute for his own damn good. The only thing about the series I don't get is that Yankumi's family doesn't really feel entirely Yakuza-like to me... her grandfather is just this nice old guy and you totally can't imagine him being a gangster. Heck, if Tetsu and Minoru didn't go nuts and yell at people for no reason once per episode, I'd say the same for them. Either way the show's been really funny and I wish Carl was here to watch it with us.

(oh - Oren, as an aside, the girl who played Sawada's sister was the same girl (Ichikawa Yui) who played Yuki in Taiho, no wonder she looked so damn familiar)

The elevator in my apartment building keeps breaking. Arrrrgh. Maybe I should just walk up the 6 flights of stairs every day and save myself the trouble of being pissed off.

Actually, I just don't really feel like writing anything long. I've been feeling really tired, headachy, and just plain bleh for most of this weekend.

Saturday, I went out to Redmond to play Twilight Imperium with [profile] bpr, his coworkers Dave and Tom, and Mike from my Puzzle Hunt team and Mike's wife Erin. Dave and Brian and I were the ones who had played before, so the game went a lot slower than expected... by 10pm (we expected to be done by 7) we decided to just call the game. Dave had 9 points and Erin had 8, so they were the defacto winners. I guess the interesting part of the game was that everyone was doing weird things with their alien races -- the Merchants of Hacan (Tom) were major warmongers, I was the Mentak Coalition, the pirates, and I just went super-technology to build War Suns, etc.

Tonight I went to Oren's and watched two more episodes of Gokusen, which is really a pretty good show. It had been bugging me how familiar some of the people in the show looked (I mean, I know I've seen Nakama Yukie in a bunch of stuff, and the girl who plays Fujimaya-sensei was Tsujimoto in Taiho), so I went and looked them up, and heh, the school nurse is Yuko Nakazawa (from Morning Musume) and Sawada is Jun Matsumoto (from Arashi). It's just weird.

Hmm, the rest of the weekend was spent playing Pop'n'Music or reading books or working on baseball projects, I think. I'm finally 95% of the way through unlocking PNM8, as I got Linus this afternoon. (I'd thought about going to volleyball today, but I had a huge headache and stomachache and figured it'd be a bad idea.)

On Sunday, I woke up way too late, played some pop'n, worked on some baseball research, went off to hang out with Oren. We got Chipotle for dinner and watched the first two episodes of Gokusen, which were pretty funny. Nakama Yukie owns you.

Today, despite not falling asleep until superlate, I managed to almost get up on time to make it in for the 9:30 meeting (I got in at 9:55), and Jack and I spent the day at work pair programming to finish off a program I started last week. Unfortunately I was tired and totally zonked out around 4:30pm.

In the evening I played some puzzle pirates and I went to the gym, where I did my entire lifting routine despite having done it on Friday, and I also brought a book so I could walk/jog on the treadmills for 20 minutes. I ran into some people from volleyball.

Tomorrow I would vaguely like to go try to catch the start of the Mariners caravan at IKEA since they'll have Moyer, Sherrill, and Putz there signing stuff... we'll see if I can swing that.

My brain is mush!

I found out tonight that I can search through old New York Times newspapers just by logging in to the Seattle Library network from home. I don't have to actually go there to look up old baseball boxscores. This is really dangerous. I'm currently culling individual game box scores and articles from the 1940 Phillies for something I want to write. Someone stop me before I go overboard! Oh wait.

Heidi and Megan and I went to the gym tonight, which was good. My back is sore and my left arm is a little weak, which is bad. On the other hand it'd been three weeks since I lifted weights, so it's not entirely unexpected.

I-Gene showed up and we sat around playing Bemani games all night. Lots of Pop'n and some IIDX. I think if I wake up in time, I'll come down and enter the tourney tomorrow too, but I don't expect to actually get anywhere in it. Mostly because I suck at IIDX. On the other hand, I kick ass at Pop'n'Music. It's really satisfying to be scrolling around random songs and be like "Hey, well, lemme go take a stab at this [random lvl 26 song]," and actually be able to PASS it. I don't really like the LED remix of Everyday Lovelyday, by the way, but I actually thought the remix of Jelly Kiss in IIDX 10th was actually pretty good.

We LOVE Pop'n'Music. We really do. We might even almost like it as much as baseball. Which reminds me, nobody told me SVGL has Pop'n now, which means a weekend trip down to the Bay Area is in order -- the only question being whether I wait until baseball season or not.

Pop'n 10 and 11 arrived today, as did IIDX 8-10. I'll note that the IIDX is still in the wrap, but holy hell I just played Pop'n'Music for the last 3 hours, pretty much from the minute I got home from volleyball. There's SO MUCH SANA! I mean, there's some Sana I don't have on CDs, like Space Dog and Half Moon Beach and Everyday Lovelyday, but then there's even stuff I have on CDs and didn't know had actually been put in the game. Like "Custom Made Girl", and her rendition of Moonlight Densetsu... and of course her singing Kanashimi yo Konnichiwa, the theme from Maison Ikkoku. So damn cool. Add to that the usual sleeper Sana songs like kuchiurusaimama (under motor 5, as "puchi-Sana") and all, and it was a sanatical evening for me.

Oh, and I nearly cried getting to play Murmur Twins on PNM 11. It brought back a rush of a feeling of being in Ikebukuro. Wacky.

I cheated and grabbed the unlock codes off gameFAQs so I could play songs like Chikara and Akumajo Dracula Medley (heh heh, that still reminds me of Keevon) and all. I was really sort of hoping they'd have put in some hypers for some really really old stuff, like PNM3 old, but oh well.

Anyway, woo, Pop'n. Good thing I have tomorrow evening slated for just doing laundry and cleaning up here and stuff (er, [profile] zqfmbg, can you let me know what you're up to on Friday?), since I can just sit around and play Bemani games for hours and hours and be "productive" since I'll be laundering as well.

Oh, tonight I also went to volleyball. I've had this ongoing joke about how I want to "blow my left arm out" and need to come up with more abusive things to do to it, like softball and bowling and some other sports (ha, and at this rate Pop'n'Music as well), but I actually think I may have blown my arm out just on volleyball, so maybe I should stop kidding about it. It is really satisfying to feel like I've improved so much as a player in just four months, though -- I really feel almost like I'm at my game from college again.

I guess today was also the momentous day that IDX officially became the "GE Healthcare IT subdivision" -- I forget the exact phrase, Jack told me it at work but it went in one ear and out the other. So, yeah, I work for General Electric now. Exciting, I know.
