So last night I organized a mini-Seattle DDR reunion at SVGL for the 20th of November. I have been doing 20 Nov things every year though I just noticed last year I didn't write about it on here (I did on facebook: gameworks photo I went to Gameworks with Mike and played some DDR USA so I could do 20 Nov, basically)

In reality, this was partially an excuse to see [livejournal.com profile] zqfmbg since I've had a copy of Counting Combos (Aaron's DDR book) for him since I got back from Japan, as [livejournal.com profile] seishinbyou signed copies for both of us. And then it turned out to ALSO be an excuse to see Keevon, who is moving back to Seattle next week. (I feel terrible that I've been living here almost a year and never saw Kevin in all that time.) And in reality this was all inspired by seeing James's "I'm at SVGL" posts on FB and being like "OMG WE SHOULD MEET AT SVGL SOMETIME".

And what better time than the 20th of November?

The funny thing is that you can't actually play "20 November" at SVGL right now, there's no DDR and no old Bemani, just the latest IIDX, Drummania/GuitarFreaks, Pop'n'Music, and Jubeat. So... James played a lot of IIDX, I-Gene played a game or two, I played a game of Pop'n and one Jubeat, and then Kevin showed up and we just talked forever. I did beat the entirety of Super Puzzle Fighter while talking to people but that's beside the point. :)

We adjourned to Chili's as a gang, where everyone but me drank beer (and everyone but me was driving), we talked about random stuff, and Kevin and I talked a while about startups and whatnot, I had completely forgotten he did YC back in the day before YC was the hip thing everyone was doing. He ended up giving me a ride back to Millbrae and we had like 25 minutes to make a 35-minute drive but it worked out anyway; we just talked tech and that made the car go faster like it did 10 years ago too. (I can't remember exactly when it was but there was this hilarious time Kevin and I carpooled to Narrows and he was driving and we started arguing about Java and C++ and I'm like "dude you're going 90" and he was like "stop talking to me about programming languages!" and it was funny.)

So I dunno, it's funny to hang out with everyone after 10 years, play some Bemani, reminisce about stuff and catch up. Should do it more often -- maybe next time I'm in Seattle it'd be nice to catch up with old DDR friends again for a change.
Today we saw the Harry Potter movie. And we ate at Rakeru. And we went to the Tokyo Dome area so I could try to find 20 November on a Bemani machine, but failed. I did play Pop'n and DDR though, and old old songs in place of it I guess. And we ate at the Baseball Cafe, and rode the ferris wheel, and there was an Arashi concert apparently. Getting home sucked because of all the accidents and we ended up doing Korakuen->Ikebukuro->Sugamo->Motohasunuma->walking.

Also in Omiya we went to Bookoff and I got two baseball DVDs and also the Japanese version of Up, aka "Karl-ojisan's Flying House", so we just watched that, and it is surprisingly exactly-translated.

I guess that sums up the day pretty quickly.

Tomorrow we're going to Nikko! whee.

Well, so I ended up meeting up with [personal profile] februaryfour and [personal profile] doubt72 in Ikebukuro, and we had food from Wendy's, and then went to the arcade to do some Bemani.

HOWEVER it appears that 20 November is no longer a song in any current Bemani game?

I played a game of DDR with Ai... and in lieu of 20 November, did random old songs like B4U and My Summer Love. Part of me wishes I could play DDR again and part of me is like, "I really do not like the feeling of being all sweaty in the arcade." Also, I forgot to wear a belt today so my pants kept slipping down while DDRing.

Played a game of IIDX after that. Unfortunately, that game also has no 20 November. It does, however, have 19 November, so I played that instead.

Then a game of Pop'n'Music, and then some UFO catching (I got a christmas bear, awww), and that was it, really. I tried to play some super-old songs in Pop'n, though the problem is they are all like, level 10, with no Hyper or Ex because we didn't HAVE those back then.

I wanted to print some photos in 2L for tomorrow's Sea Rex fan fest but my USB stick didn't work when I tried to use it at Bic Camera, so doh. Printed some out here at home but I know it's not as cool as having them bigger and on the nicer paper. But whatever.

I had this really weird thing last night; I went to sleep around 11pm but woke up several times before finally really waking at 10:30am, due to factors like "wait, I am still wearing my street clothes" or "my throat hurts, it is too dry" or "there are dogs barking and they are loud" or "my arm is asleep and it hurts", and so on.

Oddly, each time I woke up I instinctively reached for my keitai to check what time it was and see if I had any email, only my keitai wasn't there, and I got very confused as to why I wasn't in my room in Japan.

So yeah, I have a sore throat again, which I think comes from a combination of the dry air in here and not getting enough sleep.
It IS feeling better than it was yesterday though.

As for yesterday, [profile] nykkel kindly offered me a ride to ACME Bowl, the bowling alley near Southcenter that has a bunch of Bemani games, so we went there for the 20th of November (it's a little hard to believe that it's my NINTH year doing a Bemani day), where we immediately discovered that DDR MAX2 does NOT have 20 November on it, but SuperNova apparently does. So yay.

Actually, more like, first we went to Chipotle so I could get my burrito fix, and then we went to ACME, and I spent a while playing Pop'n before I felt up to stepping on a DDR machine. They have Pop'n 13, but what is weird is, with no card reader and whatnot, a lot of stuff doesn't seem to be unlocked. Either that or I've just forgotten how many songs got added between 13 and the current 16! It was good to play though since I actually haven't been doing Pop'n that much in Japan since my nearby arcade doesn't have it.

Eventually between Pop'n and Drummania I felt ready to get on DDR, where I played like 3 games, and the upshot is that I can still pass 8-footers but I feel really crappy doing so. This was probably my first time on a machine in like two years, as well. But, I played 20 November, and that was the important thing.

And then I played some more random stuff waiting for Nykkel to kill himself on the arrow-stomping games. We finished off with a Session game on GF/DM, where I made him play チェリー and 777 and PPR, for old times' sake. Hehe. I'd been playing random Japanese pop songs all day which I'd totally forgotten were on Drummania (like ロビンソン and 花火 and such).

On our way out we ran into [profile] farren_bronaugh, who was on his way in. Good to see him again if just for a minute or two.

I came home and collapsed for a bit -- by then my throat hurt a bit more. Took some Dayquil to help. It did.

Carl came home and I talked him into getting pizza (not too hard, he hadn't had pizza in a while), so we went to Pagliacci's and got a pepperoni pizza. Yum! Also stopped by Fred Meyer's up there. I hate jeans.

As for today, I have no clue what the day holds for me. I'm working on some Perl, and doing laundry, and pretty much hanging out at home for the afternoon trying to get better, I think. I DO feel a bit better -- no medicine today and my throat is just feeling dry rather than painful, but... we'll see.

It was the 20th of November today, so after work I went to the big Kawaguchi ekimae arcade and played Beatmania IIDX Gold for the first time. The best part was, when I got to the machine a guy was just finishing up his set. There was already a girl in line, so I waited behind her. She got up on the machine and played 20 November as her first song! I was so happy to see that. So after her set I got up and played 20 November, 19 November, and Murmur Twins. Whee!

I finally got to talk to my neighbor tonight about the bike thing. She told me she took the bike to the recycling center and gave my bohan toroku papers to a branch office of the Kawaguchi police on Saturday (AND gave them her contact info). I told her that they called me on Monday, so she's not really sure whether I should go to the police station or not, but they basically just want to cancel the registration for the bike. However, since neither of us have the papers anymore I'm not sure what to do about it anyway. Whoops. I'm hoping that they just hadn't received them at the main office by the time they called me, maybe. So I apologized a lot and she apologized a lot and I might or might not have to go to the police. Hrm.

Also, she invited me to come over to her apartment next weekend to have dinner with her and her friend. (I'm honestly not sure if she meant "friend" or "boyfriend". Japanenglishese can be a little hard to understand sometimes.) So that might be sort of interesting, we'll see.

One of my students called GEOS tonight because he couldn't come to class. I answered the phone in Japanese, and he asked in English if he could speak to Deanna-sensei, I told him it was me, and I heard "嘘!" ("No WAY!") That was pretty funny. He was working overtime and just wanted to talk to me in English for a bit since he felt bad that he wasn't there. We talked about soccer and some random stuff for a few minutes. I know how completely paranoid I am about talking on the phone in Japanese, so I was really happy he called to talk in English, and I told him so.

Today was the birthday of one of Eri's students, so Eri dragged me into the class and made me sing Happy Birthday with her. (Honestly, it's one of the students I talk to fairly often, so I didn't mind, I was just like "I have no voice! I can't sing!!")

Sentence of the day: "A french horn looks kind of like a snail. It is smaller than a tuba."

As an aside, I took the Contac again today and it made me really sort of spacey for most of the afternoon. But it's better than being totally hoarse, I think.

Yeah, okay, so I started playing DDR six and a half years ago and I mostly stopped playing two and a half years ago, but whatever. Tonight I had quite a workout, as I went to the gym and lifted weights, then drove down to ACME Bowl to play Bemani games. The first thing I did was play IIDX, where I passed 20 November on Light 7 and failed it on 7 Keys. :) Played another game of IIDX, then went over to the DDR Extreme machine. Keep in mind that in the last year I've played DDR maybe twice. I only actually remember once, that being when Krispy and I played one game of Supernova hanging out in Shibuya.

So I play 20 November on basic. No problem. I play it on standard. No problem. I play it on Heavy. No problem, but this 14-year-old-or-so girl jumps up on the player 1 side of the machine halfway through and starts bar raping along with the song for whatever unknown reason.

Song ends. I turn to her.
Me: "Don't you kids ASK before jumping on anymore?"
Her: "Uhh.. umm... uh... sorry?"
Me: [rolls eyes]
Her: "What was that song called, anyway?"
Me: [as the machine shows my final set of 20 November, 20 November, and 20 November] "It's CALLED 20 November. Do you know what today's date is? It's the 20th of November."

Man. Kids these days.

Anyway, awesomely enough, the arcade cleared out except for one other guy around 9:45pm -- I hear they kick out the under-21s after 10 -- and so I actually played about five games of DDR, some Extreme, some SuperNova. I can still pass 8-footers, and I thought my knees were just fine, until I tried to climb the stairs when I got home and got a twinge. Bleh. It's not as bad as it used to be, though! I think I could actually probably play DDR again if I was careful about it. I'd like to at least try out all the new songs on Supernova at some point. But, you know what songs I'd rather play again? Strictly Business, Sung Suk, 1.2.3.4.007, Starian, Kick The Can, Wonderland, Young Forever, One Two, etc. BRING BACK K-POP GODDAMNIT!

It's funny for me to remember past 20 Novembers:

2000: I had 2nd Remix and a Japanese PS1 and that was it, having only been playing for a few months at the time. But I played 20 November, goddamnit.

2001: I had a party and had people over to play DDR, but since it was nearly Thanksgiving we only had like 15 people show up, but we played 20 November in both DDR and Beatmania. I remember that Barbara brought Katy and Seth to it, and Bob Rost and Krispy were there too, and I think Marybeth and Marc too. Isaac and Carolee were there because of my reference to the "para para all nerds", and I think Rebecca and Angel were there, and Carl obviously too, and maybe even kw. Hmm.

(side note: finding the old video of me and Rebecca doing our "Let The Beat Hit 'Em" routine at DDRFest 2002 was fucking awesome. At the time I think I thought we sucked but looking back now that was actually pretty good.)

2002: Hung out at IZ with the usual suspects. It was a Wednesday night, and at the time, Farren and I had this "let's go hang out at IZ and go to Krispy Kreme afterward" thing going on every week, which was awesome. So that week we just had a lot more people along with us. I still sort of remember that, Kiefer making these two guys step off the DDR USA machine so we could play 20 November, since at the time, it wasn't on Max 2, and Extreme hadn't come out yet. (Those were the days.)

2003: Went to IZ and got my first ever AAA, which was, ironically, of 20 November. And of course the only person who saw it was Tada, even though I actually went to IZ with Farren (and by then the big Bemani crowd had dwindled due to drama and other crap, plus IZ had started to suck). Also, I remember having that Schmidt #20 t-shirt, but I never saw it after I moved out of the Greenlake house. That and my Tsuboi #7 are probably the most prominent things I lost in that move.

2004: I was back in Pittsburgh for Thanksgiving, and since Bayani had to leave town early, he and Kate and I ended up going to the UC and playing our traditional DDR together on 19 November instead. Having run into rjmccall at the DDR machine, the gang of us adjourned to run our sore legs off playing Capture The Stuff With Flags.

2005: I went to ACME for the first time. At least then, when I got on the IIDX machine, the guys who had been playing saw me picking 20 November and were like "Holy shit! It's the 20th of November!" unlike today. My sinuses acted up, too, which sucked. I guess I should be glad that also didn't happen today. Maybe I am in better shape now.

Wow, things have changed in six years. I still remember that tiny apartment in Pittsburgh, where I had this one room that literally had exactly enough floor space for two DDR pads. Life was so much simpler then.

Today I did some shopping (mostly getting stuff for people back east) and I also saw the new bowling alley with the arcade with the IIDX machine. I played one game on the IIDX machine, since I hadn't played at all since May or so when we went up to Canada for IIDX Red. I really should play more... maybe now I will since there's a machine. Anyway, I did play 20 November. There were two guys there who seemed reasonably nice. Matt-Met also showed up right as I was ready to leave, because I played one game of DDR (so I could play 20 November on that too), again not having played since May, wasn't warmed up at all and had a dry throat, so my sinuses acted up and I started coughing up a lung. I hadn't had that happen in so long (funny, running at the gym or playing volleyball or such doesn't set it off), but it's always seemed to be DDR-related, goddamnit, so I guess it's a good thing I don't play anymore. Stupid health issues.

Oren and I went to Blue C for dinner because I figure I won't have sushi again for a few weeks. Then I came home, and I watched my DVD of Harry Potter and Sirius Black, while trying to finish sewing up my PP banner. I suppose in theory I could just bring the damn thing east with me and work on it there... I've gotten all the hemming done and the flap for the dowel at the top, now I just need to sew on the fringe. I'm such a slow hand-sewer though that I'm estimating it'll take me another 3 hours which I'm not sure I have.

I GO TO PITTSBURGH IN LIKE 2 DAYS AAIIIIIEEEEE
dr4b: (Capture the B34R)
Okay, so Thursday was... eh. I remember driving down I-5 and seeing the grey grey clouds and the Seattle skyline looking like a black-and-white photo, which was neat, except behind me the sky was blue and everything was in color. Almost as if I was travelling through a TV time machine and in front of me was the 1962 World's Fair and behind me was today's Greenlake neighborhood. Eh.

Work was, of course, eh.

I stopped by Blue C on my way home from work to grab dinner, figuring I wasn't sure I'd have decent sushi for a week or two, and got home around 8-8:15ish, which should have been plenty of time to pack and play some Pop'n (that morning I'd played one or two games and I unlocked the Des-Row course and Daikenkai, whee) but instead I logged into PP, which is always dumb. Ah well, I did pack and wasn't too much over on my time guess. Josh was nice enough to give me a ride to the airport, and I got there with PLENTY of time to spare.

The plane flight itself was eh. I couldn't sleep for the first part, so I read The Three Musketeers, because I'm on another Dumas kick I think (and now I can make Carl read The Count of Monte Cristo). I probably got like 200 pages in before realizing, whoa, it was late. So I tried to sleep; I think I got like an hour of sleep total. Bleh.

I got into the airport at 7am; got off the plane; got to the car rental place; rented a car... then got to brave Pittsburgh rush hour to get here. It actually did, veritably, suck, but since Carl had said I should come over around 9, I figured it didn't matter if it took a while. I stopped in Squirrel Hill around 8:30am, and went into Bruegger's to get a bagel, because dammit I'm on the east coast and WE HAVE BAGELS. I ran into three KGB people, one of whom I recognized from the lounge (mbrewer?) and another who is the Sgt at Arms (lizza?) and another whose name I never caught. But they were nice and hyper despite having been up all night, as was I, so I talked to them for a while and then drove over here to Carl's.

(As an aside -- Driving a rental car has really made me appreciate and love my Honda Civic Hybrid all the more.)

Carl had to go to work, so we chatted a bit and then I fell asleep on the couch for a few hours, waking up at 2pm or so eastern (which is my normal 11am or so western, I guess). I ended up getting to campus at 3:30pm. My car had already been ticketed for daring to park in Area J. Sigh. Ah well, so I went to campus; oddly, I was able to walk from Morewood and Forbes to the CS Lounge without recognizing ANYONE or stopping to say hi. I am not sure this has happened in many many years. Maybe I really am gone. Anyway, I got to the lounge and I saw [profile] buoren and [personal profile] sk4p and [personal profile] whitemage, and oh! and [personal profile] degauss too. and other people who I am sure have LJs but whose names I don't know offhand. Oh, I saw [profile] dracai and [profile] mygrane as well, heh. ("Hey, it's the governor of Zeta!" "Hey, it's the governor of Turtle!")

After that I wandered around Wean a bit... stopped in to see Mark Stehlik, then I stopped in to see Catherine Copetas... then I showed up on [profile] bhudson's doorstep, and eventually [personal profile] jcreed walked by too, and Alex Groce called me about maybe getting dinner and [profile] csg87 started IMming me about getting dinner, so... we figured on getting dinner somewhere in Squirrel Hill so we'd be near Charlie. Alex came to campus and came up to Benoit's office, and Jason and I knocked on [profile] platypuslord's door on our way to the lounge for me to get my jacket, and so Dan got dragged in too.. so we ended up at Gullifty's, where we were randomly joined by Chris Colohan and his fiancee (!!) Lea, who is apparently Jason's officemate. I *love* how it is here, where I had no plans for dinner, yet just a little walking around Wean Hall and I end up going to dinner with 7 CS grad students! It's just so awesome. Only way it could have been better is if Kevin (Watkins) had actually been in the office as well when I came over to harrass Benoit :)

Woooo, that was really awesome. After that I came to campus and went to Wean 7500 for the rules for Capture the Stuff With Flags. [profile] arashink showed up with his girlfriend, and we hung out in the back of the room for a while. Zarf showed up! Wowie! It was really funny because NOBODY knew who he was. 150 people there and a good half at least were freshmen. He got up like "Hey, I'm Andy Plotkin. I like, wrote this game ten years ago, and like... my gosh, I barely recognize it anymore." There was a severe lack of alumni as compared to past years though. I mean, most of the ones I've mentioned were there, and [profile] jcipa and [personal profile] redglasses and some other people I don't know if they've graduated yet (for example, what's the deal with Ben Gilbert?) but for the most part I didn't know 90% of the people there, which was odd for me. Ah well.

I didn't actually play in the first round because Bayani and Kate and I decided to go to the UC to play DDR, since Bayani leaves tomorrow morning for Thanksgivingy things, and tomorrow is 20 November, so we'd just play 20 November on 19 November. Oh man, I really feel like I suck at DDR now, even if I might not be so awful for Pittsburgh. Oh, and [personal profile] rjmccall was on the DDR machine when we got there so that was odd. I didn't know he played, but I think it's cool that he does, and he's gotten really good! So after a few games I suggested going back to the CTF game. We went through Doherty and ran into Carl! The first game was just about to end, so we decided to try to all end up on the same team for the second game.

Kevin, Carl, John, and I went around as "Alumni Strike Force" for a bit until we got split up. I somehow ended up sneaking in to Doherty on my own on the highest floor... nobody was there so I went up the stairs to the 4320 offices. Still nobody there, and no flags hidden in the area. I went down the steps on the other side and... THERE WAS A FLAG IN THE STAIRWELL! So I grabbed it and ran back up the stairs, through the offices, through the top floor, and to the judges' room! Wheeee! I got a flag I got a flag I got a flag I miss [profile] rkane. But, dude, I got a flag. I think Randy got like 3 flags. Still. (Oh, this second game they were playing with 10 flags. Total chaos.)

There was a pretty amusing point when in jail, people were lying down on the floor to stretch out the jail line, and so I was in the stairwell next to Carl, saying "dude, this is dumb" when Zarf walked down and sat with us in jail for a while talking about games and whatnot. It was pretty funny since I was just like "Uh, yeah, this is totally how I want to spend my Friday night... lying on the floor in a stairwell in jail. Wheeeee." As jail break happened, a guy came up to me like "Hey, I think I met you last year. Weren't you the CS Lounge girl who cares about baseball?" He was wearing a Red Sox hat. We had a nice chat for about 20 minutes. :)

Wooo, so it was fun running around and whatnot. Carl and I decided to give up after that game and came back here, where he had dinner-ish food and made me some hot chocolate. Stayed up talking a bit and now even though it's midnight my time I should go to sleep because it's 3am here. What a day :) I'm really happy to be back at CMU. Really, really happy. And really, really old. But mostly happy.

(oh, for those playing the home game, and who may be confused, mostly the PP folk, Carl's my best friend. he also plays PP, but nowhere near as much as I do. But he is governor of Wrasse. Hee. My island's cooler. NOT.)
dr4b: (emi graduation)
Today my work group went out for dinner at a swank restaurant together and I ditched it to go to IZ for 20 November. (To be honest I really didn't want to get all dressed up, and I never appreciate expensive food. Seriously.)

IZ was a ghost town of course. Farren and I were there, and Warren the juggler guy, and Tada. That's like... it. How totally depressing compared to last year. However, the up side is that there's a Pop'n'Music 3 AND a Pop'n'Music 5 on the floor now. The downside is that PNM 3 has no hispeed as far as I can tell. So I played a ton of Pop'n'Music as it's probly my favorite game right now of Bemani. I also played a lot of DDR. I played the song "20, November" on the DDR USA machine, and the solo 4th+, and both DDR Extremes, and I played it on DDR Extreme on every level on Single, and on Heavy Double (which I failed, of course). I was wearing my Mike Schmidt #20 t-shirt with the big big 20 on the back too, just to be a smartass.

So the exciting thing is that at one point since I'd gotten like 3 greats on 20 November Light, I joked to Farren, "Ok, I'm gonna go AAA it now," and he said "ok, have fun," and he went to play PNM, and I played a set of all 20 November Light... and I AAA'ED IT ON THE SECOND SONG! I've never ever ever gotten an arcade DDR AAA before, so this is like super-exciting. Especially since hey, it's the 20th of November, and I AAA'ed 20 November! Whee! I started screaming "OH MY GOD!" and Tada came over and saw my score, so I do have a witness :) Sadly Farren was mid-PNM-song when the score disappeared, but I think he heard me screaming, at least. Next time I need my camera I guess.

Quit around 9:30, Farren gave me a ride to the Park&Ride, and I got the bus and went to Seattle, and Eli picked me up from downtown. I got home and played some Puzzle Pirates, mostly trying to scrounge up some money to buy cannonballs with. How silly :) Hey, I got my gunnery up to Solid/Legendary, go me.

It snowed here! There's snow outside! I didn't see it fall, but there's like, a small sheet of snow on the car and around the house a little. I bet/hope it'll be gone by morning.

I can't decide how I feel about how I spent tonight... I don't know, maybe I should have gone to the dinner thingy instead of IZ? Though then I wouldn't have an AAA... I don't know. DDR community depresses me.
I had a really fabulous time tonight at IZ, but since our network went down for a while I'm too exhausted to write a lot. So I'll try to keep it short (ha ha). Met up with [profile] aquatwo around 5:50 and we went to IZ. Got there around 6:30, same time as Nykkel. It was emptyish then, though there were two guys on the USA machine, so no 20 November for me immediately. Played a whole bunch of stuff... forget what specifically. I guess the big thing is that I did a lot of doubles tonight. Burning Heat Standard isn't so bad on doubles. Actually, I sightread a whole lot of 6-foot stuff on doubles and it wasn't so bad. (Nykkel was like "And you STILL don't carry a memory card, huh?") Also, I got up to D2R in Naoki Standard. Go me! That was pretty awesome. However, I got LTR up to like 140 perfects, which was still a B when the dust settled. Hmm... lots of edit playing was going on, but not really for me. The last real set of the evening I played alongside with Farren, and he did his nutso Healing Vision "Vivinova" edit... I lasted about 15 seconds into it, if that. Ouch.

At one point Kiefer got the USA guys to step down for a bit and we did 20 November on the USA machine, all three levels of it (not counting beginner). It was REALLY silly and REALLY fun and I laughed a whole lot and bounced and spun around. I also did that at the end of the night... played 20 November from 9:55 until they cut the power.

Let's see who was there... Laura, Ryan, Becky, Robby, Farren, Kiefer, Joe, Nykkel, me and Steve, PR, DJ, Eiji (?), yeah, I think that's about it. After DDRing, we went to Krispy Kreme... managed to get a whole big group. In addition to the usual suspects (me and Joe and Farren, and today Steve because he was there with me and Kiefer because Farren parked at his place to do edit stuff), we had DJ and Eiji and Robby. 8 people. Was a lot of fun, and I got to show off my recordings of the Kiltie NES music, which seemed to be appreciated by the crowd. I sort of ditched my table to sit with Kiefer and Farren for a while, since they are both way cool.

Ended up giving Steve, Robby, and Eiji rides home. Robby is so very different from me, but he's a real sweetie, so he was fun to talk to for like, the entire 45 minutes or hour of driving home and stuff. Didn't get in until 12:30am and then we had a network outage here so I played Frequency and IIDX for a while. The scratch pad seems stuck-ish on my IIDX controller, which makes me sad.

Last night I played a bunch of Super Metroid, realized I have forgotten most of it to begin with, and then played IIDX instead. Whee for me and my silly lack of original Metroid. I'm not going to bother with Metroid Prime, since I can't even get through the Metroid games I have. Blah.
I drank caffeine tonight, consciously, for the first time in seven weeks. Only a cup of cherry coke, but I can feel it. See, I bought too much soda for the party, so I'm going to be stuck with a bunch of coke and all, so I might as well drink it. I was dumb, Eli was right.

The party itself went fine. I think we had around 15ish people total show up, so it was small enough that there was seating for everyone and small enough that the videogames were played evenly by people, but large enough that there were people to do various stuff and have fun. Carl brought and played his tarot-Icehouse game, and some people played bridge, and we did DDR and Para Para and Beatmania (making sure to play 20 November in both of the relevant games). I am left with plenty of leftover snacks, but that's not all too unsurprising. Hopefully during the week we can have some time where more people come over and help finish them off, or something. It was fun watching people learn the para para moves - maybe it'd be fun to just bring people over for more para paraing. I've only really learned Ale Japan, Boom Boom Fire, and Velfarre 2000, so Carolee could bring over her VCDs and we could have a fun time training as the Para Para All Nerds or something. I wish I had a second controller... maybe I'll put it on my wish list for Christmas or something.

I have gotten so bad at bridge that it's not even funny. Ugh. Hopefully people will be good and start playing with me again so I can get better at it.

Oh yeah. My Nintendo did see some action - we played Contra for a while. We also played Chu Chu Rocket on my Dreamcast. What a cool game! I really like it a lot. No Genesis action though. Oh well.

Anyway, so, you can have a party on a Tuesday night after all, although the Tuesday of Thanksgiving is not the best time. :)

Hmm, I never ate dinner tonight, just snacks. No wonder I am pangy-hungry now.
