Preliminary postseason post
I have to stop staring at numbers.
I came up with a new random arbitrary metric to try to predict the postseason, like I did last year. It's a different metric than I used last time, though. I don't like what it gives me, but I'm going to post it anyway. I'll run last year's metric tomorrow night and see what it comes up with.
Anyway, it says the following (which surprisingly actually agrees mostly with what
damienroc was telling me last night... shame I hadn't run these yet when I talked to him, heh)
ALDS:
Angels beat the Yankees in 4
White Sox beat the Red Sox in 5
NLDS:
Padres beat the Cardinals in 5
Braves beat Houston in 3
ALCS:
Angels beat the White Sox in 5
Padres beat the Braves in 5
WS:
Angels maul the Padres in 5
However, I want to point out that my heart still tells me either the White Sox or Cardinals are taking it all this year.
EDIT (10/4, 4pm): Jake Peavy is out with a broken rib or something. Good-bye, Padres. I'm running new numbers tonight.

Nuh-uh. Not a chance in hell. A team that limped it's way into the playoffs and came close to not finishing above .500? Cardinals maul the Padres. The NL West was /terrible/ this year. If any team had been passable or healthy in that division, someone could have had a banner year. But I'm putting a 'Bet Against' sign on the NL West until further notice.
Braves/Houston I won't touch. I don't bet for or against the Braves except in the World Series, in which the AL is going to win against them pretty well every time.
White Sox will take out the Red Sox. The Red Sox had to push like mad just to make it in and had to get some help from the Cleveland Chokers.
Gotta go with my Yankees over the Angels. Yankees fan, gotta pull for my boys. Yankees want revenge for 2002.
I'm going to predict Yankees/Cardinals, with the Yankees in 7. Though it wouldn't surprise me to see the Braves in there over the Cardinals. But, my gut says this is the Cardinals' year to take the NL Crown.
Now, if we can merge the NL West into the other two divisions and just take the top two from each NL Division, we might be onto something...

I think they either need to go back to 2 divisions or go up to 4. Unfortunately 4 would require expansion in the AL, and I'm not sure that'd be good either.

And, uh, the2belo? Try being a Pirates fan. I'll kidnap Spin Williams myself if I need to. He doesn't need to die, he just needs to stop being a pitching coach.
