You could use a ziplock bag.

no, see, my clothes are wet so i have nowhere to rest the book while reading it. if i put it in my lap or on my bag, it'll get wet. it SUCKS. even having a ziploc bag won't help because the outside will be wet. yar.

You could put the book inside a ziplock bag inside a ziplock bag, giving you a dry bag and a dry book. Half of the dry bag will become wet, but you can just dry it out at work.
