Ducks and Death Gate
Sep. 15th, 2002 12:40 amToday I woke up very very late, and to make it worse, I sat there in bed reading Serpent Mage (the fourth Death Gate book) until like 3pm. Then we were going to go shopping, except I really wanted to finish the book. So I pouted at Eli, and he went shopping instead, and I walked to Greenlake, getting a slurpee at 7-11 on the way, and found a bench to sit on and sat there and read for a couple hours. It was really peaceful. I was sitting right by the water, so I kept getting distracted by ducks swimming by. At one point it was really funny because these three ducks walked up onto the beach and they just stood in front of me, staring at me. I looked at them like "Hi. I have no food for you, but you are cute," and they just looked at me like "Give us food. We are ducks. You are a person, therefore you have food for us," and I said "I really don't have anything," and they stared at me with their cute beady ducky eyes for another minute or two and eventually gave up and walked up the grass towards other people. (They walked in a duck-line.) Dammit, why do I never have my camera when I really need it? The three ducks staring at me would have been a GREAT picture. Shortly after that Eli called me to say "Ack, it's 6:30, come home, Megan and Josh will be here soon," so I walked home while finishing the book (yes, I was one of those nerds you see walking along the street reading a book and trying not to walk into things).
Came home, cleared off the table, called the DSL people to complain about the outages, and then Megan and Josh came over, and we had a good dinner that Eli cooked, and I got to talk to them, which is good since we don't see them anymore now that we're not living in their house. After dinner we played Entdecker, which although I was having a heck of a time figuring out, I totally lucked out with the draw of a few tiles and managed to win one point ahead of Josh. Go me. :) Then they went home, and since we have network, I'm goofing off online. Yay.
So, I can't decide whether to run out tomorrow and get the last three Death Gate books or not. I REALLY want to know what happens next, even though I know I have my own assumptions about who "The One" is, what Haplo's dog actually is, and what will happen ultimately. But, it might be better for me to not get the books, since then I might get some sleep this week. Although... I've been told the last 3 books suck compared to the first four. So who knows.
Oh yeah, I replaced my "screaming" picture with this "duck" picture. (I figured "Screaming" and "Tongue" both seemed to convey the same emotion.) I certainly seem to talk about ducks enough... we'll see if it sticks.
