I keep hoping I'll wake up and the sore throat will be gone and my head will be unstuffy and life will be good. Hasn't happened yet. I wake up not worse, but not better either. More like, it keeps changing. At first it was just a painful sore throat, now it's become more like a head cold, where I cough a whole bunch. It reminds me of the way my strep throat felt at first, during my strep incident November 7, 1999. That sucked. Fortunately, I don't have any fever or vomitting yet, so I'm holding out hope that it's just an extended cold resulting from me being dumb and doing things like DDR and D&D instead of purely lying down at home all weekend. (Although I spent all the evenings of my weekend from 7pm on at home lying down and studying Japanese and watching anime. I got through the first 10 episodes of Card Captor Sakura, and the first 7 episodes of Nadesico. I also am beginning to feel a little doomed for that Japanese Language Proficiency Test thingy because my listening skills are definitely not up to par. Ugh. (Though I'm feeling a little bit better about my kanji knowledge, even if Carl still thinks I suck)

I called the dentist this morning and rescheduled my visit since I wasn't sure I could deal with a dentist appointment when I still can't really swallow. I also called the doctor. Have I mentioned my doctor's office? The doctor is really cool, but her office staff are total bitches. (I went in back in July to have blood work done, and I am really, really paranoid about needles. Eli went with me and held my hand and all. Afterwards I said "aren't plenty of people frightened of needles and blood and stuff?" and the nurse was like "No, not really, you're just a freak" or something to that effect.) So I called this morning and told the receptionist/nurse/whoever I still had a cold and .*Quil says to call your doctor after taking it for more than 2 days if symptoms persist. She got mad that I didn't know my pharmacy's number, so I had to go look it up and call her back. So I did. She said they'd call me back... it's been like 30-45 minutes now and I haven't heard anything. I'm not sure whether I feel up to going to work or not, either.

I dunno. Considering how much I felt like crap this weekend, it wasn't too bad a weekend, but D&D was sort of lame and I hate having a sore throat. And I don't think things would have been any better if I'd spent the entire weekend lying down. Maybe I'm wrong though (since Erin got better and seemed to do that)

Anyway. Blah. I think I'll go lie down and wait for the doctor to call back.

Also, boy is NyQuil frustrating. It didn't put me to sleep or help my sore throat and headache last night.

I was hoping that stepping out of the apartment for 7 minutes to buy orange juice would cause the doctor to call, but it didn't work. I can't believe I didn't think of chugging orange juice all weekend. I utterly forgot about vitamin C. that's probably why I'm still sick. dammit. I'm going to have to miss kiltie today, though, obviously, and my friend's band is playing a free concert on campus again and I have to miss it too, which sucks. And the SFFS meeting tonight... well, I might try to make it to that, since all I have to really do for it is take notes and stuff, and maybe by then the doctor will have called with some info on what medicine i should try and maybe resting and drinking orange juice all day will do good stuff. we'll see. blah.

gee, thanks

5pm, the doctor's receptionist calls back just saying "Oh, it's probably a virus. If you are still sick in 2-3 days come in."

I'm like "I've *BEEN* sick for 2-3 days."

She's like "We know. There's a lot of this going around. Rest and drink juice a lot and you'll probly be over it soon."

"Can I keep taking DayQuil or whatever?"

"Yeah, Dayquil, tylenol, whatever, go ahead."

"Even though it says after 2 days to stop taking it and call a doctor...?"

"Yes."

I guess it doesn't help that I got over a 50-minute bout of really painful heartburn right before she called. You know, I've had pain before, but 50 minutes of heartburn when you are already sick is one of the worst things ever. It made the throat pain seem piddly in comparison. I couldn't lie down because the heartburn got worse, I couldn't stand up because I was all dizzy... I couldn't even breathe for a bit. I was on the verge of throwing up, and was even lying down on the bed with my head over the side of it over a trashcan, expecting to throw up. And all of a sudden it stopped hurting. I stayed in the same position for about five minutes still before believing it was over and I could move again. Ugh. I hope I never have that again. Ugh ugh ugh.

(Yeah, I know, it's not the worst thing in the world. It sure seemed like it. Bear with me.)

You know, if the doctor's office had called back at 11am to tell me "gee, it's a virus", I think I would have been much happier today.
