another reason I love Eli
Oct. 9th, 2001 07:44 pmI went to work today. It was hard to stay focused since my throat still hurts and all, and I was doped up on DayQuil and all. I got some stuff done though and talked to people and all.
Well, tonight I went to Geagle to get more medicine and orange juice and all. (I can't believe the sheer amount of OJ I've drunk in the past two days. I feel like I am solely supporting Florida's economy) They had no DayQuil. Doh! So I looked around the stuff they did have, liquid cough medicine, because I can't deal well with swallowing tablets to begin with and it's even worse when I have a sore throat.
I look through the other Vicks stuff, like 44, 44D, 44M, etc. I find that 44M has most of the same stuff as DayQuil, like Dextromethorphan, Pseudoephedrine HCl, Acetominophen, which Eli explained to me all about the other night, how one is a painkiller and one is a cough suppressant and one is a nasal decongestant, etc. It's got another chemical in it, Chlorpheniramine Maleate. I dunno what this is, but figure it can't be too bad, so I decide to buy the stuff and bring it home.
Well, I get home and Eli is heating up corn chowder for dinner, and I go "Hi, sweetie! They had no DayQuil but I looked through the stuff they had and found this, which has most of the same active ingredients as DayQuil except this Chlora... Chlorphe... oh whatever. What does it do?"
"That's an antihistamine, dear."
"What's that mean?"
"It'll make you drowsy."
"Well, shit."
Anyway, I love Eli because he knows all of this stuff about chemistry. It's sort of scary. He was a big chem geek as an undergrad and knows tons of stuff about drugs, which is sort of freaky, but is also sort of useful because then I can ask him questions about all of this stuff.
