Deanna's retarded poll of the day

Sometimes I wonder what "normal" bathing methods and times are.

Don't worry, I won't use this data against anyone, even if they end up being a houseguest (although I'll know whether to put out washcloths for you...)

[Poll #38137]

You forgot "Bar of soap, lather up hands, apply suds directly to body with hands"! (boy, am I picky, or what? :-)

I second that one.

I wouldn't normally post something that three other people did, but you said to post in the poll, so..., yeah, soap on hands, hands on skin, usually. Occasionally use washcloth, especially if I'm a bit grimy.

And now the nit-picks:

1. You would apparently infer from my answer of "bar of soap, applied directly to skin" (modulo the above nit-pick) that I wouldn't need a washcloth. However, people might use washclothes for reasons other than application of soap. For example, some of us don't like to stick our faces directly under the shower to remove the soap.

2. I answered the literal question, not "how long do you take to shower, dry off, and get out of the way", which may be what you meant.

I apply the soap to my hand, and then to the skin, usually cleaning my hand before resoaping it. It keeps the soap free of hairs and other ickies.

I'm right about at the 10 minute mark for time. In terms of method, first I apply bar soap to a poofy thing, set it aside, then bar soap over whole body, then scrub with poofy thing, then rinse.

Tee hee. way more fun than data analysis.

I used to use bath gel, and a loofa thingy at the gym. This was at least partially because bath gel was easier to carry in my bag than a bar of soap. I think you need an applicator with bath gel. I've pretty much always used soap without a wash cloth at home though. (An exception would be if i am JUST washing my face at the sink.)

I also probably over estimated my shower time. I just subtracted the time i left the bedroom this morning from the time i got back. But that includes tooth brushing, and toilet time, too. I figured it was alright, though, because every once in a while i'll spend a long time in the shower because I can, and it feels good. (Please don't yell at me, i already feel guilty enough about not conserving that water!)

I don't use soap at all; it makes my skin feel less clean than when I don't use it. I just scrub a lot.

Sometimes I use one of those puffy things on my feet, if I've been walking around in sandles, but most of the time, it's just me and the soap.

Though, I was my face again after I shower... and I use a washcloth then, since I can never:

1) splash enough water on my face to get all the cleanser off
2) not cover the counter-top with lots of water when trying to splash enough water onto my face to get the cleanser off.

I can take anywhere from ten to thirty minutes in the shower, depending on how much time I have, how many times I wash my hair, and if I get lost in thought and forget what I have and haven't yet done, and start over (or at least in the middle...).

During Sophomore/Junior year, the shower was a frequent source of enlighenment. Usually this occurred in the form:
1) Work on a really nasty problem or problem-set (usually for Rudich or similar) until late at night. Do not solve/finish completely.
2) Sleep.
3) Get up, take a shower, have revelation about problem(s) while doing so. Stand there working it out mentally.

This process has been known to work even when step #2 has been skipped, although usually it works better when it is left in.

I hate to be pedantic, but what about bar of soap, applied to _sponge_ and then to skin

[identity profile] lahabiel.livejournal.com 2002-06-04 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I must add that you've also left out "bar of loap, lathered, then applied via massage to lover with whom you are showering, and vice versa. *smile* Highly recommended.

Wow, I'm feeling so unpopular. I was brought up using a washcloth, and have always preferred it, simply because it does a better job of scrubbing off dirt/dead skin and stimulating blood flow.

Also, my shower time pretty much depends on if I wash my hair or not. The shampoo/condition/comb/rinse combo will add about 5 minutes, so 10-15 if not, and 15-20 if I do.

Wow, I wish I could process my hair in five minutes; do you give lessons?
