Thursday was a hell of an up-and-down day! I got to work and immediately was dragged out to lunch by my coworker who is another former Puzzle Pirates addict. Well, "dragged" isn't exactly accurate since I actually arranged for us to meet up with Cioj and Shantybones, though said coworker decided on the place, Perry's, and the time. It was a really great time, it's always awesome to see old friends and catch up, especially when said friends are awesome, and introducing new friends is also neat. The food was also really good as advertised, I had a steak sandwich, by which I don't mean a stupid Philly imitation but an actual slab-of-steak-on-a-sandwich that was very good. I hope we can all hang out again sometime, because it was really fun.

Afterwards the two of us also went and got ice cream in the market thingy near Embarcadero, which was also pretty good!

Honestly, I think I must have been a little sick on Wednesday, because I felt a hell of a lot better on Thursday. Though the big buzz around the office was how a bunch of people will have to move downstairs next week, and that's gonna be weird. (We're just out of space. It happens when you have only enough room for a bunch of people and end up with a bunchzillion instead.) On the other hand, something neat is that soon we're going to have the public website up for my project and then I can point people at something to say I WORK ON THIS!

Also, Tagged is going to the SF Pride parade on Sunday. I won't be there since I'm in Seattle and all, but I got a t-shirt, so I can wear it in solidarity anyway! The shirts are really cool and colorful.

Dinner was crepes, and we fortunately wrapped up a meeting just in time to eat them :) There seemed to be more than enough crepes for once, infact I think the place may have brought some leftovers back with them. I had a braised beef and spinach one, and a banana-nutella one for dessert. SO good! I sat with the people I usually sit with, which was nice, except being worried about one of them being grumpy, which, now that I think about it, maybe he caught whatever made me sick on Wednesday? (Since we had another coworker who was sick on Monday, maybe he passed it around and we all just got lesser versions of it.)

Either way, after walking to the BART station I was also perhaps catching some of that viral grumpiness too, so felt kinda bummed out on the way to the airport (I think it's just what happens, every week I can't decide whether I'm supposed to be happy to be going to Seattle or grumpy to be leaving SF. This is really beginning to grate on me).

But I got to the airport and MY FLIGHT WAS ON TIME AND EVEN CRAZIER I HAD BEEN UPGRADED TO FIRST CLASS!!!

I have a LOT of miles with United, because I've always flown with them to go between the US and Japan, which just kind of adds up after a lot. So, I've got Premier status, which means I get Economy Plus as a free uprgade and I'm ALWAYS "waitlisted for First Class" but never ever ever actually get it. Except this time, rather than getting the "You're on the waitlist", it just said "You've been upgraded. Here's your first class ticket."

Whoa.

The gate was weird, it was in the international terminal, so I had to find it, which was annoying, but other than that... I sat in first class! I think it was mostly lost on me though as I don't really drink alcohol (everyone else who was awake seemed to be drinking wine). I did, however, partake of apple slices, when the flight attendant offered me a big tray of snacks. The slices said "Real Fruit From Real People", which I'm hoping is a typo. Or some sort of metaphor. And I had soda served in a real glass instead of a plastic cup. But other than that, eh. The seat was big and I could do a Sudoku book without bumping elbows with anyone, so that was good?

I dunno, it really was an up and down day in so many ways. Crazy enough to write a public entry :)

Also, bleh, I need to decide like, NOW, whether I'm going to North Carolina for the US-Japan college baseball tourney. I so want to go and so don't want to go...
I guess I'll rant more about the Mariners game yesterday to the baseblog sometime, maybe. But yeah, that was the big Thursday thing -- worked on a puzzle a bit and then went to the Mariners game in the evening, with the Fords, and Zach and Jess, and Mike of course. I got there a lot earlier than everyone else because hey, Colby Lewis was starting for Texas, and the last time I saw him pitch he was on the Hiroshima Carp. But the obnoxious hecklers at the bullpen yelling in my ear really annoy the crap out of me. Telling them to stop swearing at Lewis and go yell encouragement to the Mariners starter Vargas only made them more rude. I hate the entire booing culture here, and it's kinda hard to make myself care about the game again.

The highlight of the evening was having an usher stop me like "Hey! You're like the only person besides me that I've seen here in like 5 years wearing a Shigetoshi Hasegawa jersey! Cool!"

Well, the Mariners won, but really, we were sitting in the upper deck and it was so empty, I felt pretty disconnected from the game. Justin Smoak is pretty cool, that's about all I learned.

Friday was semi-officially the start of CAKE WEEKEND OMG (because well, now it is Saturday and it is my birthday). I spent the afternoon basically doing laundry, baking brownies, and writing a puzzle for today's PH meeting (which I got people to playtest and which was fun enough, at least). Brownies were instead of cupcakes because they're so much easier to transport, see.

Oh, also, while I'm at it, I basically came to a working agreement to start working at Tagged on May 16th. Which means that yes, I'll be theoretically doing the Seattle->SF commute for about 6-8 weeks until they get the Seattle office opened. Well, we'll see how it works out. I'm still somewhat in disbelief, but basically I guess next weekend Andy and Mike and I will go down to SF for the Shinteki:Aquarius puzzle event, and then they'll all come back to Seattle and I won't for a few days more. It also means I have to get my boxes OMG OUT OF BALLARD in the next week or so, because I hesitate to put this project off if I'll be out of town a lot.

But I should probly be bothering people in CA more...

After PH meeting, we all (well, me Mike Andy Ben Adam and Rehana) went to dinner at Cheesecake Factory! Mike and I split a sandwich and I had sweet potato fries, so we also got cheesecake and brought it home. CAKE WEEKEND PART TWO!

After dinner we took Ben and Andy back to MS to sober up and watch Youtube videos and hung out for a while longer than planned. Whatever, it was fun.

AMAZINGLY, the May 7th Hosei-Rikkio game was broadcast live on Sky-A, and someone had it on justin.tv, so I get to watch it without waiting a week! The starters were, as I predicted, Kazuki Mishima for Hosei and Masato Komuro for Rikkio. Komuro is one of my new favorites... but Mishima's birthday is ALSO May 7th. I even sent him a birthday card, though I have no clue if it got there. Sadly, he got kinda beaten around by the Rikkio batters and was out in 3 innings. What a crappy way to have a birthday. On the other hand, Komuro got his 5th win, so I can at least be happy for him I suppose. The hero interview was Komuro, and Yusuke Yamada. I've been a fan of Yamada's since 3 years ago when he was in high school and finally met him at opening weekend this year. So, yay for him. :) But poor Mishi.

My friend Kobayashi's collecting doubles of all the Big 6 weekly thingies they give out at Jingu for me, and said she'll send them to me at the end of the season. It was very much like "We still have an empty seat for you here, you know"...
