3) Tell a random fact about you.
4) Tell a first memory about you.
5) Associate you with a character/pairing.

Last night, after finally getting things to work!11!!!1!1! at work, I went to dinner at the downtown Todai with
genericman and Mike "from Duquesne" Piatek, who I hadn't seen since like, some DDR thing or another back in 2002 or 2003. He's all grown-up and grad-student-like now!
Todai changed their policy or maybe I just never knew about it since we always had a big enough group, but apparently you only get the free meal on your birthday if there are 3 or more people with you (otherwise you get a certificate to come back for a free meal another day, also accompanied by someone else). So Mike and I did not count as three people for Jason's birthday, alas, but I think we had fun, though Jason and I both talk way too much for me to really catch up significantly with what Mike's up to these days besides CS grad school at UW. Heck, I'm not sure I even found out if he still plays DDR.
I went to B&N after that and picked up the Hardball Times book as well as the Moe Berg story "The Catcher Was A Spy", and made Jason buy a copy of the Gehrig book I finished, "Luckiest Man".
At home I watched the first two episodes of Haken no Hinkaku (a TV show this season about the state of temp workers in offices in Japan). The show is pretty good on its own, but I'm also using it educationally as a refresher course on business Japanese, as well as picking up on dress codes. After that I wrote my book review of Luckiest Man, which was heartfelt and a little bit depressing, I'm sure.

2. So what sucks is that I wish I knew any songs or films in Portuguese, since that is what I associate with you. I have been racking my brain, but alas.
3. You stole my birthday!
4. You wouldn't let me throw Jeff in the pool in Key West even though he was too drunk to protest. But I mostly remember sitting in your room with you and some other people on that Saturday night and escaping all the loud weirdo-freaks... and at the same time thinking "I really shouldn't be in here, should I?"
5. wat
6. Are you and Nate still together? I just realized I had no idea and haven't really seen any Loots since Vegas.
7. So, that pic right there and the cartoon blonde face one are the only ones I actually really associate with you. Though, as a corollary, my favorite portraits of yours involve helmets (and they've almost tempted me into buying one so I can play too).

Helmets pwn, end of story.
I had the birthday FIRST! ;)

...although the last time I responded to one of these all I got was removed from the gal's friends list. :P

2. SUSUME FAITAAAAZU, SHOURI WO OTOKO! (Sorry, I don't know the Dragons fight song well enough and we've never played Bemani games together)
3. You got to see the game where Masa Yamamoto became the oldest man in Japanese baseball to pitch a no-hitter.
4. Telling you that you were way too pessimistic about sports teams.
5. You hate Mitsuru Sato. And you really shouldn't :)
6. Did you find a job in Japan because you wanted to go to Japan all along, or did you go there because it was the job you happened to find?
7. It should be obvious that it's the Chunichi Dragons pennant one, even if MINE IS MUCH COOLER HA HA HA HA HA HA.

And Satoh has this year to prove that the end of last year was a fluke. :P He actually pitched well (5 2/3, 2 ER) the last time he pitched a meaningful game (not counting the last game of the season), but the bullpen blew the 5-run lead he had. I'm worried about either him or Nakata going Kyle Lohse on the bit when they don't win; they're both young, and they seem to get more no run support (or bullpen blows lead) games than the other Dragons pitchers. (heck, during the season I started calling him "Kenichi Nakata Lohse". :P)

2. two TMBG songs, actually: Birdhouse in Your Soul - "...after killing Jason off and countless screaming Argonauts..." even though perhaps you don't go by Argo anymore, and Sleeping in the Flowers - "we float into the harbor with just piers and boats around", which for some reason once got morphed into my head as "Geoff(/Jeffe) Spear and Boats" once
3. Of all my overly precocious friends at CMU, you were the second-youngest to enter both undergrad and grad.
4. I met you in the ESG, I believe. I can't remember how long it took me to find out your name wasn't actually Argo.
5. Moe Berg, the smartest catcher to ever grace the major leagues.
6. When did you get into baseball, and how?
7. Evil Spock, I think.

2. I can associate you with the band British Sea Power, can't I?
3. You are pretty damn good at carp. Coming from me, that's saying something.
4. You joined Looterati after I left, I think. I thought you were actually in Britain and was surprised to find out otherwise.
5. wat
6. What the bloody hell is your username? :P
7. The one of just your PP character. Otherwise I would have had no idea who you were.
no subject
3) The only thing I ever copped an ego about in YPP was carp, and you were always undeniably better at it than I was, so, yes, that is saying something, and thanks.

2. The only movie I remember seeing with you is Fever Pitch. Is that right?
3. I think that in the abstract you share more major things in common with me than anyone else I know in Seattle (baseball, board/card games, cmu, computers, history books, videogames, dancing, puzzles, japanese, playing music, playing sports) and in the concrete we have completely different sub-spheres within all of those things (reds vs. phillies, soccer vs. volleyball, concert band vs. marching, ancient history vs. baseball history, final fantasy vs. pop'n'music, swing vs. ballroom, anime vs. doramas, and so on)
4. Early on I mostly remember you as just being Carolyn's boyfriend (you were both tall). It probably helped that you joined Kiltie eventually and started hanging out in the lounge.
5. Andre. "Bend over and I'll show you." I don't know if that counts, but he was sure a character and I associate him with you.
6. This isn't an "always" so much as -- what do you see yourself doing in 5 years? Are you still thinking of trying to go get a PhD in history or something along those lines, like you used to say when you first came out here?
7. I dunno, your normal one is fine.

2. I saw a bunch of movies with you back in the day, but for some reason the first one to jump to mind when I was trying to remember which ones was Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. I'm not sure why. We also saw Garden State, didn't we?
3. You are not Chris Nelson.
4. I met you at Monica's (40th?) birthday party. I was there with Carl and I think she said something like "You guys all play Puzzle Pirates, you should talk" or something like that?
5. Bart Simpson. Not directly -- I was just remembering the first time I saw what Nancy Cartwright (his voice) looked like ("That's not a small blonde boy!"), and then remembering the way Shantybones reacted when he met you ("That's not a small blonde girl!")
6. Are you happy in Seattle? If you could live anywhere, where would it be?
7. I like the Christophe/Sal one best.

4. The first time I met you was right after Ian died, and I'm glad you were here to commisserate with.
5. It's not a character per se, but something tells me that if it were possible to just step into a book's setting, you could just settle in to any Jane Austen novel and be perfectly at home.
6. Were you born in America or Canada originally?
7. Loot!

2. Many pop'n'music songs, but the strongest one is Absolute Guitar Mix, because I remember being in Japan with you and I was all like "holy tran! I can't believe you can pass this!" Second strongest is of course the song IIDX from IIDX. Can you win? I do care!
3. You have awful taste in card games :)
4. I was at Illusionz one evening after moving here. So were you. There were a lot of people who were being total crazy perfectionists at DDR. You were not one of them. Thus you were memorable.
5. [insert pop'n'music character here]
6. What do you want to do with the rest of your life?
7. The default one.

2. There's a whole bunch I could put here, since I used to come see movies with you a lot. "Hana and Alice", "Linda Linda Linda", "Howl's Moving Castle", etc. A song? This is going to sound funny, but the first one that popped into my head, no joke, was the "Talkin' Softball" song from the Simpsons. Weird Al's "Spiderman" also reminds me of you. I'm sure there are more if I thought about it, from all our roadtrips.
3. You have more roadtrip stamina than anyone else I know. I have no clue how you can drive for 20 hours straight. I can't even drive for 3.
4. Despite never meeting before, you came all the way up from Tacoma to my very last game party at the old house. Then you came and helped me out with the whole Jason situation a week or two later. But the best early memory I have of you is your birthday party in 2004, being totally drunk at the Strap and playing Elixir and calling you Jeffykins Docktart due to some card Wooko played on us. I have to admit I'm still sometimes tempted to call you that.
5. It's not a character, but I kind of associate you with Jamie Moyer, if that makes any sense at all. In terms of actual characters, I guess Skuld, but my first Skuld was my friend Bayani back east (who bears an uncanny resemblance to Chris, actually), so.
6. What do you *really* want to be doing in 5 years? Where do you want to be (in terms of place and in terms of school/job)?
7. Your default userpic is fine, since I know the story behind it and all.
Goddamnit Jeff. Hey, are you going to be up here for Mariners opening day?
no subject
I thought there was a bit more than two weeks between the game party and Jay coming up. Two months?
And you have, since then, called me that, so you don't resist the temptation very well. ^_~
Hmm... five years. Y'know, as much as I like living down here, I'm pretty sure in five years I want to be living in Tacoma again. I'd like to be working in such a way that I have the ability to travel wherever should I be so inclined, while also be making enough to pay for said travel and still having a place to come to that's home.
Oh, and I want to be a published writer.
And, hrm... I do believe I -will- be up there for Opening Day. Actually, it's almost a certainty unless I die.

2. SUSUME FAITAAAAAAAZU, SHOURI NO OTOKO... no, just kidding. Actually, am I just totally forgetting something or do we not really overlap on music much? If anything I just associate you with ANYTHING Nagoya or Gifu related, thus how about the movie Mr. Baseball? :)
3. Your life both inspires and terrorizes me all at once.
4. Dude, you were so positive that Gifu was dead boring and that you were going to bore me and Nykkel to death, but instead I was all like "Ooooo! Castle! Ooooo! Okonomiyaki! Ooooo! Miso katsu! Oooooo! Car!"
5. OMG you are totally like that Metroid23 dude. All tall and blonde with a camera permanently attached to your face. What do you MEAN he isn't a "character"?
6. Do you ever have regrets at all about the fact that you're pretty much going to be in Japan for the rest of your life?
7. Dragons woohoooooooo

2. I'd like to see a remake of that movie with Ken Watanabe as the manager, and Samuel L. Jackson as the player. "Put me in the lineup, motherfucker!!! Also, no, we likely don't overlap on music; every time you're here I'm playing obnoxious drum & bass in the car and you are obviously trying with all your soul not to turn the stereo off and break the knobs. :)
3. My life inspires and terrorizes me all at once.
4. Well, however boring Gifu may have been, I hope it was more interesting than "Ooooo! Ferris wheel! Oooooo! LIGHTNING STOR{#`$%+&{`#$+%{&`;NO CARRIER
5. Dude. I don't think that Metro32 dude weighs 100kg.
6. Specifically, I'm going to be in Gifu the rest of my life. And I don't regret that for one second. I mean, there's castles and miso katsu and okonomiyaki and cars! What more do I need?
7. Changed appropriately.

(He said, trying to make things a little more interesting than "Ooh, me, please!")

2. "The Devil Went Down to Georgia"... no, just kidding. Probably something Harry Potter related, film-wise.
3. You are the only person in another country that I have ever called on the phone to wish them a happy birthday.
4. I was really glad that schedules happened to work out that well so I could catch up with you guys that time in NYC last summer. I thought it was great that within an hour of meeting up, we were sitting at a table playing card games :)
5. I hope you and Meg will be a happy happy Mr. and Mrs. Mallard!
6. If you could live in any city in any country for a few years, with all logistics aside, where would it be?
7. Boston ducks!

2. Anything by Black Train Jack (though I could have made up like any one of ninety billion answers to this. like Empire Records and Celtic Pride, remember that one New Year's?)
3. You wore a skirt more often in college than I did. Also you were my roomate more times than anyone else.
4. "NOW GUYSH... WHEN I WAS AT NAAAAASHA...." or maybe it's more like "dude, why are we in CAMDEN?"
5. SUPPLIES!
6. uh, since I've known you over half my life I can't really think of anything to ask here. how about "when are you going to visit Seattle?"
7. hahaha, 3am -- I took that picture didn't I?
no subject
Holy crap - have we really known each other that long?
hahaha, 3am -- I took that picture didn't I?
Yes - that was in our room in Maggie Moe. You woke me up at some ungodly hour after I crashed without changing out of my clothes, and said something like "SMILE"! - that was the result. The full pic is here Good times :)

2. so in the past I would have totally said something like a TMBG song, but instead I'll say the movies Casino Royale and Ocean's Eleven -- since I keep picturing you as a dealer now!
3. You are one of two people I knew in college who had valid Spanish verbs as their last name.
4. it's not the first memory, but I remember falling asleep in 15-212 lecture next to you.
5. Robby the House Elf!
6. Did you ever actually finish a degree? Do you think you even want to at this point, if not?

2. First thing that pops to mind is "The Inner Light". You could take that as either the song or as the TNG episode.
3. I had never heard of a hammered dulcimer before I met you.
4. You gave me a code test when I interviewed at Claritech. I thought that was way cool and it was part of what convinced me I wanted to work there.
5. See, the problem is that it's too tempting to just pick a Jewish character out of somewhere, like Yentl or something.
6. So, what's your next plan on the musical horizon if On the Mark is seriously done?
7. Chocolate bunnies or fist-of-death, I think.

I'm not sure what my music plans are at the moment. I'm going to let group stuff float for a while and see what happens, and meanwhile see if I can do more in the synagogue.

2. The Brit Pop song on PNM 5, and Hi-Tension. Also DDR True Trance Mix, So Deep, Ordinary World, and like ninety billion other songs you made edits for back in the day. Maybe for IIDX/KBM I'd say Presto, and Regulus. Am I forgetting some obvious song? I feel like I am.
3. You were the first person in the Seattle DDR scene that I became friends with, IIRC -- and one of the few who I never stopped being friends with.
4. Wednesday nights at IZ :) You encouraging me to pass Burning Heat on heavy, and teaching me KBM, and swapping me IIDX 5th/4th.
5. Tran!
6. WHY DON'T YOU HAVE MORE AMBITION? YOU ARE SO GODDAMN SMART.
7. The roguey-like one, I sort of associate that with you.
