Braindead braindumping and a meme

From [profile] ciaweth, [profile] piratelemur, [profile] ohsochewy, whatever. I don't usually do memes, but feel obligated since I commented on theirs.

Leave a comment and I will:

1) Tell you why I friended you.
2) Associate you with a song/film.
3) Tell a random fact about you.
4) Tell a first memory about you.
5) Associate you with a character/pairing.
6) Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.
7) Tell you my favorite user pic of yours.
8) In return, you must repost in your LJ. Okay, not really. I don't care if you do or don't.

Last night, after finally getting things to work!11!!!1!1! at work, I went to dinner at the downtown Todai with [profile] genericman and Mike "from Duquesne" Piatek, who I hadn't seen since like, some DDR thing or another back in 2002 or 2003. He's all grown-up and grad-student-like now!

Todai changed their policy or maybe I just never knew about it since we always had a big enough group, but apparently you only get the free meal on your birthday if there are 3 or more people with you (otherwise you get a certificate to come back for a free meal another day, also accompanied by someone else). So Mike and I did not count as three people for Jason's birthday, alas, but I think we had fun, though Jason and I both talk way too much for me to really catch up significantly with what Mike's up to these days besides CS grad school at UW. Heck, I'm not sure I even found out if he still plays DDR.

I went to B&N after that and picked up the Hardball Times book as well as the Moe Berg story "The Catcher Was A Spy", and made Jason buy a copy of the Gehrig book I finished, "Luckiest Man".

At home I watched the first two episodes of Haken no Hinkaku (a TV show this season about the state of temp workers in offices in Japan). The show is pretty good on its own, but I'm also using it educationally as a refresher course on business Japanese, as well as picking up on dress codes. After that I wrote my book review of Luckiest Man, which was heartfelt and a little bit depressing, I'm sure.

This should be funny...

...although the last time I responded to one of these all I got was removed from the gal's friends list. :P

[identity profile] lahabiel.livejournal.com 2007-02-16 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
OK, that sounds like fun.

Nobody who commits to posting one of these is going to get anything else done this weekend. Except me, because I don't really have any friends.

This might be interesting...

Hmmm... OK, me too!

I actually had no intention to use the two years of Japanese that I took, but since I found a few job openings that had wanted both an engineering degree and some Japanese (obviously not that much if I got offered xP), I sorta went with that. (And when I say multiple interviews that wanted that, it was actually with different locations in the same company.) I had way more luck with that than the other openings I interviewed for; heck, a few interviews that I had they told me before I left that they wouldn't offer.

And Satoh has this year to prove that the end of last year was a fluke. :P He actually pitched well (5 2/3, 2 ER) the last time he pitched a meaningful game (not counting the last game of the season), but the bullpen blew the 5-run lead he had. I'm worried about either him or Nakata going Kyle Lohse on the bit when they don't win; they're both young, and they seem to get more no run support (or bullpen blows lead) games than the other Dragons pitchers. (heck, during the season I started calling him "Kenichi Nakata Lohse". :P)

I can probably guess #1, but go ahead and tell me the rest!

6) I dug out a dinky Perl script that I used to use to set my VMS personal name back in the day, ran it a bunch of times, and took the output I liked best. It's literally meaningless, which was the point.

3) The only thing I ever copped an ego about in YPP was carp, and you were always undeniably better at it than I was, so, yes, that is saying something, and thanks.

2. I think so. The time we walked from your friend's (Josh and Megan?) house to the theatre.
6. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. When, where and how I do not know. Just that I am not content with my present profession as my career.

I don't think I could handle 20... The 18 hour marathon it took to get home from SF after the '04 party was probably about 2 or 3 past my limit.

I thought there was a bit more than two weeks between the game party and Jay coming up. Two months?

And you have, since then, called me that, so you don't resist the temptation very well. ^_~

Hmm... five years. Y'know, as much as I like living down here, I'm pretty sure in five years I want to be living in Tacoma again. I'd like to be working in such a way that I have the ability to travel wherever should I be so inclined, while also be making enough to pay for said travel and still having a place to come to that's home.

Oh, and I want to be a published writer.

And, hrm... I do believe I -will- be up there for Opening Day. Actually, it's almost a certainty unless I die.

1. I was just jealous of your 1.21 gigawatts of purchasing power!
2. I'd like to see a remake of that movie with Ken Watanabe as the manager, and Samuel L. Jackson as the player. "Put me in the lineup, motherfucker!!! Also, no, we likely don't overlap on music; every time you're here I'm playing obnoxious drum & bass in the car and you are obviously trying with all your soul not to turn the stereo off and break the knobs. :)
3. My life inspires and terrorizes me all at once.
4. Well, however boring Gifu may have been, I hope it was more interesting than "Ooooo! Ferris wheel! Oooooo! LIGHTNING STOR{#`$%+&{`#$+%{&`;NO CARRIER
5. Dude. I don't think that Metro32 dude weighs 100kg.
6. Specifically, I'm going to be in Gifu the rest of my life. And I don't regret that for one second. I mean, there's castles and miso katsu and okonomiyaki and cars! What more do I need?
7. Changed appropriately.

I always enjoy reading your baseball book reviews, though I'm not all that big a fan of baseball. There's a couple of books you've convinced me that I would probably enjoy.

(He said, trying to make things a little more interesting than "Ooh, me, please!")

Hehe, Nathan and I are still together. In fact, he's visiting right now! He's going home tomorrow, though. :(

Helmets pwn, end of story.

I had the birthday FIRST! ;)

I played baseball from ages 7 to 18, and after that was too busy studying to continue. I rediscovered it when a criminal justice professor recruited me onto his team, the Phillies, in the Detroit Men's Senior Baseball league. So right now I play on that team, for men 25+ in age, and next year I'll be able to play also in the 35+ league. Assuming my knees can still handle it, of course. :)

I'm throwing in on this basically because it's been quite some time since we interacted. Also I'll probably spread this meme. Tally ho!

uh, since I've known you over half my life

Holy crap - have we really known each other that long?

hahaha, 3am -- I took that picture didn't I?

Yes - that was in our room in Maggie Moe. You woke me up at some ungodly hour after I crashed without changing out of my clothes, and said something like "SMILE"! - that was the result. The full pic is here Good times :)

Yes, I don't want to spend the next N years living in an apartment. And so it seems wise to buy a condo, except for the fact that I still want to go to grad school.

In answer...no, I never actually finished a degree. I've spent a good amount of the intervening time assuming I'd never go back for one, and as I get older there seems to be less and less point, I guess, though lately I've sorta been feeling the urge to maybe take classes again. I dunno...I can't say getting a degree is really on my list of things to do. But if I go for it, I have to imagine it would be a part-time, long, and drawn-out process. :) Also, just because, I'd also try to get a degree in something completely irrelevant. Just because.

I need to take a 1-2 week raincheck on meme propagation because I'm moving and starting a new job. At least I make #1 and #7 easy for you.

6. WHY DON'T YOU HAVE MORE AMBITION? YOU ARE SO GODDAMN SMART.

I just want to point out that if [livejournal.com profile] dr4b says that you are "SO GODDAMN SMART" then it really must be true.

(I love your Louie-yawn icon, by the way!)

I'm not sure what my music plans are at the moment. I'm going to let group stuff float for a while and see what happens, and meanwhile see if I can do more in the synagogue.
