I gotta get my hands on a better picture of Tran. Whee.

Gonna make a big Bemani order soon, I think. Just have to decide which games are worth getting... I'm getting KBM, and then debating between the DrumMania home game, or maybe something else.

Ryan got a job, so it's unclear whether he'll still be able to go to IZ on Wednesday nights. The other Ryan now has physics lab Wednesday nights until 7pm. So I'm debating switching my weekly run to either Tuesday or Thursday...

The DM home pad's base petal sucks large rocks. Other than that it's ok, as long as you aren't one of those people who crosses their arms for the high hat (like you're supposed to on a real kit.)

I hope I get a chance to try KBM when I'm up there, I'm interested in seeing it.

I'll be in Seattle in Feburary to visit [livejournal.com profile] katybeth and I was hopping that I could get you to take me out for some bemani action!

I don't know how annoy it would be on fast songs. If you cross your arms, I don't think that you coudl do it. I suppose auto bass would still be kind of helpful, as long as you mimiced the base with your foot. Dunno.

I have the orginal DM controller. I also have the yamaha dtxepress *for use with my band and my own use, and hey, I was employed at the time.) I've played in the arcade once (3rd mix). The dtexpress is pretty close to the arcade expereience, but I've never passed anything beyond 3 stars. I think that it would help you read if you were willing to not use the bass petal and you don't cross you hands to hit the high hat. If you are looking for good bass petal practice, I don't think it would do you very well, unless you kludge something up to make the petal more usable. I couldn't find a possition that was comfortable to use the bass petal without having it sliding around. The srum spacing is much tighter, but everything I learned on that controller before I got the dtexpress transfered quite nicely, so it's defaintely an ok learning tool, but I don't know if it would be at your level.

Boy, I'm a real help, aren't I? :) My tickets are for Feb. 9-13, which isn't a lot of time. I'm going to let Katy run my schedule, since I'm going to see her, but I'm hoping that timing things will work out.

I'm hoping to get to see this Illusions place. I'll just see how my schedule is when I get there.

The dtxpress is expensive. I got mine on a close out last model sale. I wasn't really recomending it, just mentioning that I had something close to arcade expereicne on it. (and it's also for the band and stuff, to justify the price.)

The problem with the bass petal isn't just it sliding around, it's also that there is no good foot possiton where it's comfortable, but it should do you for practice. You just don't get the nice heel on the floor foot action, you sort of have to stomp on the petal from above. Maybe taping it would help.

To clarify: the DM home bass pedal is a piece of crap. It is to Bemani controllers what E.T. was to Atari 2600 games. Dee, count on either using auto-bass or building your own bass pedal. It's just that bad.
