A Streetcar Named Arakawa
Mar. 11th, 2009 02:27 amIt was a relatively nice day out today and I was just sitting in my house, so around 3pm I came up with an excuse to go somewhere: I rode the Toden Arakawa streetcar, which I never had before. It goes from roughly the Asakusa/Minami-Senju area to Waseda, and nicely intersects JR at Oji station and Otsuka station. Oji is two stops from Akabane, so I went there and crossed the street and got on the streetcar! Whee!
This is actually a shot of where I got off the car, at Higashi-Ikebukuro 4-Chome:

I've been told that streetcars are becoming more obsolete in most parts of Japan due to people driving cars, but this one was packed for the whole time I was on it, and it wasn't even rush hour. It went through some very nice back streets and neighborhoods and I really enjoyed riding it, and I think I'd like to ride the entire length someday :) Higashi-Ikebukuro was just a convenient place to exit, because it's relatively close to where I live -- Ikebukuro itself is just 3 stops from Akabane, or 1 if you take the right line.
So I walked from that station to the main Ikebukuro station, basically, which was a nice walk. I stopped in at some UFO catcher arcades and... and... and found a Pop'n'Music notebook one which I took a look at and realized I totally can't do, as well as a mini-Doala catcher which I spent 900 yen on because I'm a total idiot. Then I went and got kaitensushi in the west side of Ikebukuro, as well as playing Pop'n'Music -- there's a new mix out! I had no clue, but bam, there it was! I played Kiseki and that Tomoyasu Hotei song, and Shuuchishin, which was really hard (hyper is 31). It gives me an actual goal -- I want to freaking pass that song. Which means I have to be good enough to do 31's. Which will never happen because I suck.
Back in Akabane, I bought a sweeper for wooden floors and some cleaner at Daiso, and came home, and I... played PP instead of sweeping my floors. Again, I suck.
Tomorrow is going to be a pretty good day, though, I think.
mdw and his girlfriend are in Tokyo and I'm going to take them to a baseball game, and maybe for some touristing around Yokohama! Exciting! I just hope I can find them tomorrow, since despite knowing mdw through Bemani circles for the last like 7-8 years, we've never met before. Should be interesting.
