A Streetcar Named Arakawa
It was a relatively nice day out today and I was just sitting in my house, so around 3pm I came up with an excuse to go somewhere: I rode the Toden Arakawa streetcar, which I never had before. It goes from roughly the Asakusa/Minami-Senju area to Waseda, and nicely intersects JR at Oji station and Otsuka station. Oji is two stops from Akabane, so I went there and crossed the street and got on the streetcar! Whee!
This is actually a shot of where I got off the car, at Higashi-Ikebukuro 4-Chome:

I've been told that streetcars are becoming more obsolete in most parts of Japan due to people driving cars, but this one was packed for the whole time I was on it, and it wasn't even rush hour. It went through some very nice back streets and neighborhoods and I really enjoyed riding it, and I think I'd like to ride the entire length someday :) Higashi-Ikebukuro was just a convenient place to exit, because it's relatively close to where I live -- Ikebukuro itself is just 3 stops from Akabane, or 1 if you take the right line.
So I walked from that station to the main Ikebukuro station, basically, which was a nice walk. I stopped in at some UFO catcher arcades and... and... and found a Pop'n'Music notebook one which I took a look at and realized I totally can't do, as well as a mini-Doala catcher which I spent 900 yen on because I'm a total idiot. Then I went and got kaitensushi in the west side of Ikebukuro, as well as playing Pop'n'Music -- there's a new mix out! I had no clue, but bam, there it was! I played Kiseki and that Tomoyasu Hotei song, and Shuuchishin, which was really hard (hyper is 31). It gives me an actual goal -- I want to freaking pass that song. Which means I have to be good enough to do 31's. Which will never happen because I suck.
Back in Akabane, I bought a sweeper for wooden floors and some cleaner at Daiso, and came home, and I... played PP instead of sweeping my floors. Again, I suck.
Tomorrow is going to be a pretty good day, though, I think.
mdw and his girlfriend are in Tokyo and I'm going to take them to a baseball game, and maybe for some touristing around Yokohama! Exciting! I just hope I can find them tomorrow, since despite knowing mdw through Bemani circles for the last like 7-8 years, we've never met before. Should be interesting.

Getting on the streetcar at Oji-Ekimae. It costs 160 yen to go from wherever to wherever, if it's one stop or 30 stops.

Um, this coffeeshop is across the street from the streetcar station in Higashi-Ikebukuro. I just thought it was funny.

See, this is the impossible Pop'n'Music UFO catcher. It has notebooks with pens. They are COOL. But I think I will have to find one set up a bit differently for me to do.

And this was full of mini-Doalas, unlike the last time where they were huge Doalas which were annoying to move, for 200 yen a play. This was 100 yen per play and they were little and cute. Doala is the mascot of the Chunichi Dragons... or lately I've begun to think of it as, the Chunichi Dragons play baseball so Doala has somewhere to perform. Kind of.
I did manage to get one out of this machine, though the arcade attendant was kind of like "dude, you need to push DOWN on it"... it took 9 tries. I hate myself when I do things like that. I got the Doala, took a cellphone photo of it, and sent it to
the2belo like "This fucker cost me 900 yen. Why do I do this stupid shit?"

I discovered this because there's a gigantic pothole on my street, of course. And I'm sad that the tracks are all covered up and useless.

In reality I think I just want to be able to say I have ridden every line on my transit map of Tokyo and vicinity, and I'm getting pretty close, actually.
