Okay, so two exciting things happened today while I was skipping band. (Honestly, I did feel like crap in the morning. Cramps and stuff.)
First, I went to Sunset Bowl to "play a final few games of 3rd mix and test out my new sneakers". Usually I'd go to IZ to really test out the sneakers, but it's a 30-minute drive and Sunset is a 5-7 minute drive. Well, I get there, and what do you know... the familiar 3rd mix marquee doesn't greet me... THE NEW DDR EXTREME MARQUEE GREETS ME. Whoa. Well, so anyway, there's now a DDR Extreme machine 5 minutes from my house. But, before you can actually be jealous... the pads still suck a whole lot of ass. Well, at least I think they do. Though my lousy tech scores COULD be blamed on my new sneakers. Despite how good everyone says NB are, my feet still hurt after playing a game or two. Bleh. 75 cents per game, 5 songs per game, 3 games, tires you out quite a bit - it's like playing 5 normal games. I guess the only reason I think the pads suck, anyway, is that I couldn't AA 1998 to save my life, whereas I always AA it now at IZ. So... hmm. Still, it was fun to play EX, and the alley wasn't too crowded. Oh, and Sync Heavy is fun.
So I came home and showered and went to tell everyone about the machine's upgrade... and then I got ready for dinner... and Eli and I went to The Melting Pot, a fondue place in Queen Anne. The last time I went to a fondue place was La Fondue in Sunnyvale, in the summer of 2000, with
angelbob and
skamille and
llaird, if that gives you any idea of how much that seems like another lifetime to me.
Anyway, except for our waiter being a little odd, it was a pretty good experience overall. The place is upscale but not soul-crushingly so, and we had a cute little corner table so we could sit next to each other. They let you order things separately but we decided to just go for the "Fondue for Two" thing, which included an appetizer fondue (select a cheese, and you get breads and apples to dip in it), a salad (I had the really yummy chef salad and Eli had a plate of mushrooms with salad dressing on it), and a dinner main course, which is basically some stuff and you choose a broth to dip it in to cook it. We had like, chicken and salmon and shrimp and beef, and lots of sauces and vegetables and stuff. We also got dessert afterwards; "turtle flambe" or whatever it was called, meaning milk chocolate and caramel and pecans fondue, but the waiter set it on fire for us for some reason. Was kind of cool, but too many pecans. And the notion of dipping cheesecake in fondue is a little odd. I wish they'd just given us all strawberries. Still, yummy stuff.
It was a neat new eating experience, if a little expensive to do on any regular basis. Still, mm, fondue. I think I like the cheese fondue best, and the dessert fondue... I don't really care for the dinner. Wonder if you can just go and get a lot of cheese fondue and a salad and dessert. :)
Been doing laundry and goofing off all evening. Yay.
