Ducked out of work at 6pm (bad Deanna), came home, got changed, got pictures (so now I have my last Otakon pictures, and my Mt. Rainier pictures, and my Bumbershoot pictures (there is a GREAT one of me and Drew), and some ducks and such). Oh, I also got a present in the mail from
dvarin, a "late birthday present". Well, at least now I won't be making an amazon.co.jp order anytime in the near future - he got me the DVD of "Love Song", this movie I watched like five times on the planes to/from Japan and liked a lot. Thanks Carl, now I have to actually plug in my PS2 so I can watch the movie. :) :)
Went to IZ. I was way nervous on the way there, and I came in and saw a TON of people there, too. So I sort of ducked around everything, to the bathroom, then ducked around the back to the area with the PPP and 4th+ Solo. Warmed up on 4th+ Solo and hung around PPP a bit because Derick and Cheese (I dunno his real name, he's like this 15-year-old kid on the DDR BBS) were there playing. That was fun. Eventually I went over to the MAX2 machines and put my card up. Another guy put his card next to mine. Then he asked "hmm, what level do you play?" and I was like "7-foot" and he was like "oh, me too" and so we agreed to play together instead of wasting extra time waiting to play. In the meantime, Tanya and Charlie were trying to do Maxx Unlimited. (I still have yet to actually get the nerve up to talk to Tanya, actually.) It was astounding to watch since the two of them would just play these insanely hard songs and get single digit greats on ALL of them. Then I watched them play Maxx as an extra stage, which Tanya got halfway through and Charlie completed. My mouth was just wide open - it was funny since the guy I was playing next game with (Einstein/Joe) was laughing at my obvious shock. He turned out to be really cool, too, and about at the same level as me, which is great! So we played a couple rounds together, actually, and sat around gawking at the really good players (there's this one kid, I dunno his real name but he goes by "paranoia rebirth" on the BBS and is like 14, and he carries around a loose leaf binder with his DDR records on it and he writes down the number of greats he got on each song. No, he doesn't get less than greats). It was nice to have someone to sit around with. Lessee, I also got to play some Drummania, which I am getting a little better at but not much (I think I can do level 20-30 songs no problem, but above level 30 I begin to really suck). I watched some people do DM/GF session, which also looked really good. And I met a whole bunch of people; I talked to Farren a bit because he watched me attempt Burning Heat Heavy (I GOT 3/4 OF THE WAY THROUGH! Up to the end of the 8-bit sound section) and he immediately afterwards almost full-comboed it. :P I talked to Keiichi and Torgo a bit about Drummania (like, everyone brings their own drum sticks, it's so wacky), and finally also got to talk to Nykkel, which was cool. Farren said something like "You must be Deanna, since I recognize everyone else here playing DDR, and you posted saying you were coming here."
Oh yah! Around 9:45, Joe and I did a bunch of Onis, my first Onis ever. We did Pop 8 first, and I didn't actually survive the first song (neither of us did). I blame freeze arrows not registering. Oops. Then we did Nearly 130, where I survived the first song and he didn't, but the second killed me because of the so fabulously fierce freezes. Then we did Naoki Standard, where I had a FC on B2U Standard UNTIL THE END AND I DIED IN THE LAST FOUR NOTES NO JOKE AARRRRRrgrgggghhh. Of course, the second song was Dynamite Rave Standard, and Joe died halfway through. It was cool to not only try Onis though, but to try them with someone who wouldn't laugh at me for sucking so much. :)
I stayed until closing, and walked out with a bunch of people. Joe made a comment about them "taking us out of the arcade kicking and streaking", so we started talking about the Mariners and their weird fans, since apparently some guy streaked across Safeco field during yesterday's game. After saying goodnight to people, I got in the car, started driving away towards 90, and decided to turn on 710 KIRO. It was just in time to hear "...and Kazuhiro Sasaki wraps it up and the MARINERS WIN 3-2! THE GAME IS STILL ALIVE!" I bounced in my seat and screamed delightedly at the top of my lungs. Then I nearly hit the car in front of me and the radio reception started to suck because of the overpasses and tunnels, so I gave up and happily sung along to Dreams Come True for the rest of the ride home.
Woo. I have a ton of stuff to do tomorrow before going to Austin on Friday... and it's a big day at work, too. Bleargh.
