My boss and one of our developers are gone for the week to recruit at Cornell. The other developer works from home over half the time. So I guess it's just Shawn (my officemate) and me holding down the fort. It's not goof-off time unfortunately though - we have a big thing we have to put together by Thursday. Friday morning I leave for Austin (YAY! YAY AUSTIN YAY!). It's an exciting week. Wednesday evening I want to go to IZ for some Bemani, in theory I might meet some more people, and tomorrow night is trivia (unless we freeze, in which case maybe I'll just work on unpacking and furniture and all some more). I'm halfway through reading The Seventh Gate, so I guess I gotta find something new to read by the time I have to deal with the plane trips this weekend and maybe next. If anyone has any recommendations for things that will hook me enough that I care to read it for a plane trip or two, but is light enough that I can fall asleep during it and pick it up later without thinking, please feel free to tell me. Death Gate would have been perfect for it. Oh well.
Today I went to some meetings at work, and I came home a little bit early but not much. I was originally supposed to go to choir with
jeliza but I am debating perhaps trying to get involved with a sedentary Sousa band instead because they sound really akin to Kiltie, and I feel dumb for having spent several hundred dollars on a big chunk of brass to never use it again. The thing is, I would love to sing in the choir next year because I want to sing the Messiah again. But...
So, instead of choiring... hm. My original plan was, go to Southcenter, play 2 rounds of MAX2, go to IKEA, exchange the damn fucked-up board (I forgot to post about how I spent like three hours yelling at IKEA furniture for sucking, and how we had one board that was just utterly cut wrong), go to Philly's Best for a cheesesteak, come home. What happened? Well, I missed the right place for Southcenter mall and ended up on some Southcenter Blvd going... god knows where, but eventually I ended up BY THE AIRPORT. How the heck did that happen? I have no clue, but eventually I saw signs "to 5", so I got on 5 and went to 405 and 167 and just went to IKEA. Blah. It took like an hour to exchange the freaking board. Partially because I didn't have the receipt (conversations NOT to have: "When did you buy it?" "I dunno, but it was the day the Mariners beat the Yankees." "That doesn't help." "Yeah, I know.") and partially because they had to run all the way into the store to get another one when I finally did prove that no really, I did buy it there and it was screwed up. Also I had to wait through several customers. Anyway... so I was pretty annoyed and it was 9pm when I got out so I figured the mall was closed. Doh.
So on a whim I called up Quarters like "Hey, if I'm driving up 405, how do I get to your arcade?" The person gave me pretty lousy directions, and I ended up parking in downtown Kirkland and wandering around for a while before I finally found it. Quarters isn't so bad, but the only bemani they have is a MAX2 machine (with a supposed broken 2P down arrow) and a PIU Premiere 2 or something. There were a few other people playing DDR there, but not many. I got to play like 3 rounds and then I just sort of wanted to quit. I also came to the conclusion that I totally suck and there's no fucking way I'll qualify for the Narrows tech tournament. Blah. Also, I still have no really good ideas for freestyle. HOWEVER, I did have an almost full status bar halfway through Burning Heat Heavy this time! Then I just lost it, again.
Driving home from Quarters is quite scenic. I went along Lake Rd. (Lake Washington Drive?) and saw tons and tons of gorgeous expensive houses with water views and cantilevered balconies and crap. No, I wasn't far south enough to see Bill Gates's house.
