dr4b: (pouty)
Today Eli and I went on the Seattle Underground Tour. This thing is insanely popular, apparently; we arrived at 2:30 and got tickets for the 5pm tour, since that was the next available. Eek. I got some lunch, and stopped in a cool toy store, and we went to the waterfront to shop a little (on the bus my dad called saying my grandmother wanted a postcard, so I went and got her one). Then we went on the tour.

Okay, no offense to everyone who has been saying how cool this thing is, but I just didn't really get it. The cool part was being underneath the current sidewalk at this one point where there are glass thingies in the sidewalk and the whole group yelled "HELP!" and some little kid moved aside a metal thing and started making faces at us from above. Eh. Other than that, it was just like, there were all of these building foundations... and most of the time it was hard to tell that they were originally actually the first floors of buildings before the street got raised and all. I dunno. The stories were vaguely entertaining though, and I am interested more in learning the history of my new hometown.

(Aside: When asked where we were from, during the tour, we said "Seattle" despite that most people said elsewhere. I almost instinctively said Pittsburgh, but...)

After that, we walked across town to catch the 43 bus to Capitol Hill, and we went to the house of [personal profile] jeliza, [personal profile] rubylou, and [profile] seanmcguire. After playing with their cats for a bit we went to an Indian restaurant. Maharaja, I think it was called. I didn't like it very much. The naan was good and the mango lassi was good, but most of the rest of the food wasn't so great. Eh. Afterwards we tried to get ice cream but failed first at this one place that didn't have homemade ice cream and then at the Cow's Meow because it closed 10 mins before we got there. So we went to this other place nearby that had "cuban coffee" and other desserts. Hung out. It was kind of cool in a Seattle way. I very rarely did the "hang out in coffeehouse" deal in Pittsburgh; maybe now I should start doing that. Need more friends in Seattle. Whee.

Stopped back at the house in Capitol Hill to play with the cats before coming home. Did I mention that these are the cats on mycathatesyou.com? It turns out Ruby's (ex-)husband owns that domain. I guess I shouldn't tell you this, but Nicholas and Pushkin are two of the cuddliest short-tail cats in the entire world, despite that on the site it will tell you they hate hate hate hate hate you. Lulu, on the other hand, is a little evil cat. She truly DOES hate you.
