oh god. so many things to do. so doooooooomed. I wonder if I could pull a packing all-nighter?

today I had lunch at campus ToI with [profile] nickjong and [profile] dvarin. Sigh, probly last ToI food ever. We hung out for an hour or two talking, and then I went to shadyside and got my engagement ring appraised at the jewelry people's place. Then I came home for a bit and unplugged all of my video game consoles. Do any of you remember that Penny Arcade strip where Gabe and Tycho find the skeleton of their dead roomate who got entangled in the back of their entertainment system? I felt sort of like that today.

I went to dinner at Fathead's with bunches of people and then played D&D at Pod's house, but I was still distracted by everything. Blargh. I think we killed some fire creatures, as a continuation of last week's adventure, but I missed that so I could go to the DDR tournament (which in retrospect was a good choice). Anyway. Came home, now I am more worried than ever about this whole packing thing.

I'm not going down to Otakon until Friday morning. But I'll be there until Sunday morning. Those of you who are going, PLEASE FIND ME! I'll have my cellphone with me at all times and the number is in this entry if you're on my friends list. I have no plans for meals on Saturday at all, and I don't have anyone to go around with in particular, so I'd love to find people to hang out with...

I drove by CMU tonight on the way home and almost got sort of teary-eyed over it. Ah, CMU, the only place I've really considered home in the last decade... for the last eight (or nine if you count that summer that I spent 300 hours in Baker Hall trying to write stuff in Fortran to run on the Connection Machine) years, it has been my geographical focal point. CMU has sucked so much of my life, my sleep, my money, and my soul, but it will still always be home. Well, until they knock down all the buildings I'm familiar with and build newer bigger better crap. But, whatever. I knew I'd leave someday, but now that the day has actually come, I'm a little freaked out about it.

I don't know if I'll have a computer to post from tomorrow night, since they'll probly pack it, so... eh, maybe I'll post from my brother's place in Baltimore, and then you might not hear from me much until we're settled in Seattle. Oh, man, I can't imagine the friends list backlog. Whee.
The packers got here at 8:15am. I've been trying to clean my room ever since. There is more dust under my computer than there is anywhere else in the universe. And I'm going to have to do another "disentangle the world" operation shortly.

These guys are quick, though. They packed 70% of our books within an hour.
"Hey, honey, look, I have a zip drive!"
"You do?"
"Yeah, I do. I had totally forgotten about it, but I found it under a pile of dust in my computer desk!"
"Wow. Think we could use it on the PC?"
"Nah, it's for my mac... so it's SCSI. Oh well."

The packers took 6 hours to do all our packing. They decided that since we have the original computer boxes for our computers, we can pack them ourselves tonight. So I'm still online. Yay.

As an aside, I had to pick which CDs I want to take with me, out of my 500 or so CDs. Since I never ever answer those "desert island discs" things, and in this case I actually sort of had to do it for real, I will tell you which CDs I picked.

My CD case already had in it the following: my own mix of Barenaked Ladies Best Songs 1 and 2, a Best of DDR CD (from around when 5th mix came out), On the Mark instrumentals, a random anime music mix CD, two Brilliant Green CDs that basically have all of the songs of theirs that I like, and my DDR 3rd Korean 2 Full Songs CD. (Those are all burns of stuff I actually own, except the DDR Korean stuff) So I chose the following (note it IS somewhat based on the fact that Megan and Josh have a buttload of CDs as well):

1. Eddie From Ohio - Quick
2. rumania montevideo - Girl, girl, boy, girl, boy
3. Barenaked Ladies - Maroon
4. L'arc en Ciel - ray
5. Do as Infinity - New World
6. Do as Infinity - Break of Dawn
7. rumania montevideo - rumaniamania
8. Dreams Come True - The Soul (disc 1)
9. Hysteric Blue - Wallaby
10. Do as Infinity - Deep Forest
11. La'Cryma Christi - Singles
12. Joni Mitchell - Ladies of the Canyon
13. Judy and Mary - Miracle Diving
14. Carole King - Really Rosie
15. Sondheim - Company (1995 cast)
16. L'arc en Ciel - Clicked Singles Best 13

Man, I am such a gaijin.
