What am I, dumb or something?
Jun. 15th, 2002 12:07 amI did laundry today and played some DDR and didn't try to work on the scanner. I did do an anime-style sketch of my D&D character though. That was exciting. I'd scan it, but... well, you know.
Anyway, I went to see Singin' in the Rain at the Benedum tonight with Eli, Mike, Carl, Nick, and Drew. Nick and Carl and I were in a car trying to trail Eli and Drew as Eli took this weirdass shortcut to get to Second Ave from oakland with no traffic. Nick totally tailed him even though he didn't even notice. Heh. We went to Max&Erma's downtown for dinner and that was fun. Then we went to the theater and I picked up tickets and we found our seats. They were a lot worse than I thought they would be. I was like "wow, we have row C, 5 seats up to the aisle" but I didn't realize it was the OUTSIDE aisle. There were no people sitting in the rows in front of us though, so Eli and I snuck up and sat in Row A, which was still far to the right but at least we could see more of the stage. I still think that sitting 15 feet from the stage all the way to the right is better than the seats we had when we saw Singin' in the Rain in Philly 1.5 years ago, which were "VIP seats" but all the way in the back.
So what was it like? Eh. I still think the stage version is largely inferior to the movie, but it is still entertaining. I love watching the tap dancing (and the dancing in general), and the singing was good, and man, I was really impressed with the set crew for all of their hard work. The sets were, of course, gorgeous and mechanical and wonderful, including the backdrop for the real rain in the title song. Yummy. Morgan Fairchild was playing Lina, and I know she's supposed to be famous and all, but she was largely inferior to the Lina in the Philly production. However the Kathy in this one was nowhere near as annoying to me - the Philly Kathy could tap dance but couldn't sing or act, so this one could actually do all three, which was good.
After the show, I spotted Dave coming down from the upper balcony (he'd told me he'd be there in the cheaper seats) and I gave him a ride home along with Eli and Carl. I made one big turn fuckup at Forbes and Craig, but nobody was hurt, and except that, driving was pretty uneventful.
Bleh. Sometimes it is very frustrating to not live in the place where everyone lives. Right now it would be exciting to be at Beeler and harrass Charlie while he is in town and all, but it seems silly to make the effort to go there. Well, if I didn't have an Eli, I would go there, but Eli would probly think I was pretty silly for randomly going there at midnight or whatever.
