Today I tried to wake up early, but didn't really succeed. I woke up at 1pm or so. Oops. I better wake up tomorrow or I'm screeeeeewed. (My driver's license test is at 11:30am. Yay to
buoren who is being cool enough to take me to the test and let me use his car and all... apparently it has some really good parallel parking karma that will be useful. :)
Anyway, all that really happened in the afternoon was the plumbers coming in again to hopefully fix our shower for good, and I had a phone interview, and I ran over to CVS for a bit to get some random stuff. Except for the phone interview, which those of you on my friends list have heard about already, it was a fairly boring afternoon.
For the evening, I went and played duplicate bridge at Rodef Shalom. Nick and I went as partners, and Kevin and Charlie also went, and Drew and Noble. This time, Nick and I were playing east-west, but our friends were playing north-south, so it was a little different to be playing and discussing stuff. At any rate... eh, this time didn't go quite as well as last time, but it wasn't because of any miscommunication - it was mostly mis-defense - for example, I had a 3NT hand I was defending where the declarer gave me two chances to take it down, and I didn't either time - once I had the lead and had the setting trick in my hand (the ace of hearts) and didn't cash it, because I am retarded. And another time we didn't take down a slam because Nick didn't lead the ace of hearts... therefore, I think we've just decided that the ace of hearts is a horrible, deadly card, that we must always be very, very, very careful to make sure we cash. For the most part we did pretty average, with a few pretty good boards and a few pretty bad boards, and we finished dead center, meaning we even picked up a fraction of a masterpoint. There were a lot of nice people there tonight, like the Surrealistic Precision guys (I wish I could remember if
mj2q still works with them) and this couple that picked on Nick a lot, but were nice - they asked Nick what he was doing in the fall and he told them, and then they asked me what I was doing in the fall; I figured it was easier to just pretend I was also a graduating senior so I babbled something about moving to Seattle in the fall ("..to work for Bill Gates?" "hopefully!").
After Rodef bridge, we went back to the beeler house. I drove Nick's car (which was a good thing because otherwise I would have been squished in the backseat with Kevin, Noble, Charlie, and Drew). It was scary but we got there okay. Then Noble cooked fajitas and people sat around alternately chatting, eating fajitas, drinking smoothies, playing bridge, hanging out, and so on. It was cool. I like the Beeler house a lot; the only way it could get better is if they got an air conditioner. :) Or, at least, some screens for the windows. Anyway, eventually I got to drive Kevin home and then drive myself home and then Nick drove himself home and everyone was happy. I ran through a stop sign on Ellsworth. Don't tell anyone.
Plan for the weekend:
1. Get up early (ie, in 7 hours or so.)
2. Go take driver's exam
3. Hopefully, pass driver's exam
4. Come back to Oakland.. finish touches on Alice costume and pack for the weekend
5. Drive to Oakmont.
6. Go to Michigan, stopping by the BVM on the way.
7. On Saturday, enter the DDRFest freestyle tournament with Rebecca.
8. Regardless of how badly we do, go hit all the big DDR locations in Michigan... Blaster's, Pinball Pete's, etc. Play lots of DDR MAX 2.
9. Fall over dead after too much DDR.
10. Come back to Pittsburgh on Sunday morning.
11. Hopefully, go to Sunday dinner; the weather better be good enough for grilling!
