stay off the roads!
wooo! i have a driver's license now!
how cool is that?
kevin rocks. we went out to the testing thingy; we showed them all the appropriate paperwork for the car and my permit and all; then I got in the car. The guy said to start the car and roll down the driver's side window, and I actually didn't know how to do that offhand but I figured it out by pressing all the buttons on the door. Then he told me to do lots of random things like operate lights, wipers, etc. Then he got in the car... and we went over to the parallel parking thingy. I did it in one try! it was really weird, I was totally sure I'd fucked up but I was parallel and within the square and he even opened the door to say "Look at what a good job you did." Then we went out on the road. I pretty much drove around the neighborhood - the only time there was a problem was at one stop sign where I stopped a little bit too late - he took off points for that but it didn't fail me - so I came back and they printed up a license for me and now I have a license! It's so weird, they didn't even take a new picture or anything. Wowie.
Now I am back in Oakland and I will go celebrate with lunch with my friends. whee!

So either the testing standards are much higher in Pittsburgh, or things have changed a lot in the last 10 years. When I took my test, I didn't have to show that I knew how anything worked in the car. I just drove through the course, parked along the side of a curb, and did a 3-point turn.
Granted, the car I took my test in had nothing automatic other than the transmission, so it's pretty easy to figure out how to roll down the window :)
Yay!

Yay, Deanna!

I do remember stalling the car a couple of times, and being warned that one more stall would fail me. Automatic tranny would have been nice.

Just kidding - congrats. Now you get to really learn how to drive. Heh. Should only take about 5 years or so.
