yay I got to see [profile] seanmcguire tonight! and i gave him a big hug and he said i smelled nice and i had just eaten a lot of sushi so i figured i probably smelled pretty funny but he said no, your hair smells nice, and i said oh, well, that's different, it probably smells like shampoo, 'cause i like use that to wash my hair and all, and he goes oh really? and i say yeah, it's not like i use wasabi to wash my hair or anything, that would just be weird.

That was a weird sentence/paragraph. Anyway, yay, I got to see Sean and kittens and eat brownies with Ralph and Lori and Mike and Monica and Eli. I also, before that, got to go to the SFFS writing group and talk about Drew's story, and before that I hung out in the CS ugrad lounge a bit and found out CTSWF might actually happen when I am in town, and before that I went and got all-you-can-eat sushi with Patrick and Kevin, and before that I went to work and actually had a somewhat productive day.

Here, some elaboration. Patrick and Kevin are good friends of mine who are CS grad students and they like sushi and are interesting, and we got there at like 5:55, so we not only got really fast service but we got relatively fresh sushi, which is often a problem at AYCE. Kevin only ate four plates, he usually eats five, but he had a beer, so now we're thinking that in Kevin terms, a beer is worth a plate of sushi capacity. Patrick and I both ate almost four plates, skipping the futomaki. I hate futomaki here. I also hate inari here. Though I loved both of them in Japan. It makes no sense.

At work, our internal network was shot, though our external network was fine. I decided to buckle down and really do work today. So I left a post-it note on K's desk, since last week she had said "I have this great project for you to work on, but I'm too busy to start you on it right now, here's some pointers, go look around" and so last week I mostly just looked around a little and did piddly tasks for other people. Today I left a post-it note on her desk saying "Hi, there's no email, can we talk? IM me or something" and so she came in and gave me a specific task. It doesn't suck. So hopefully work will look up a bit for the next week or two. It was funny, though, leaving post-it notes on people's desks and printing out files and messages because we couldn't forward any email to each other, heh.

I was a little harsh on Drew's story, but he doesn't seem to hate me, which is good, 'cause I like Drew a lot. I also wish I could be inspired to write a story soon. But I've had no time and most of my writing seems to go into emails and LJ entries and crap.

Oh yah, I also got to see [profile] combinator in the CS ugrad lounge, and his new Phatmaster comic in the Tartan! Yay! There were a bunch of cool people in the lounge. I also changed the "BOB ROST IS GORD" on the whiteboard to say "BOB ROST IS GOOD". It used to say "BOB ROST IS GOD", but that was a long time ago. I added random comments in Japanese around the room too. It's sort of nice because nobody knows anyone's handwriting in Japanese well enough to tell who wrote what.

So it has been a good day overall. Except in the last hour, when I was playing piano on Eli's keyboards (I'm working on some Final Fantasy music, but slowly), my throat started hurting again. I took some more acetominophen and it stopped hurting, but this is worrisome. blah.

Also, it has been over two weeks with no caffeine for me now, although most of that time I've been sick, so I dunno if it counts.

I decided I need to order some Tom Holt books over amazon.uk. He is way cool. I've only read one of his books, Flying Dutch, but I found some Tom Holt websites and read some excerpts of his other books, and I really want to get them. I've decided I'm on a historical fiction kick, but I want to read fun historical fiction, not boring or dramatic stuff. Aside, his book Snow White and the Seven Samurai looks pretty funny. Whee.

(The subject line means "I ate too much sushi", with a vague twinge of regret. My stomach is still feeling funky from it.)
Is it true that United is on the verge of going out of business any minute and that if Carl and I are flying United to get to Austin and back, we might end up completely screwed?

(I figure if I post this here, someone who actually reads news might have a URL or something for me if it is true)
