Everything is closed on Monday
I skipped KGB and coming to campus at all today. I guess that was silly, but it all worked out in the end (and sometimes I want to feel like I don't spend half of my life on campus, even though I know in the end I'll be sad that I didn't spend more time with some people). Instead, I got Konamix and Oha in the mail and tried them out Thumb-Thumb-Revolution style for a bit, and I took the first lesson in an online Korean course. I thought it was way cool that I could actually read stuff pretty well. My accent is kind of atrocious, and it's hard for me to tell the difference between some of the pronunciations, but... anyway.
So Carl and I had to go to Squill tonight anyway, and I wanted to make a stop at Fotoshop to get some copies of some pictures made (like Carnival stuff and such). I was originally going to make a trip to squill for that, then come back to campus for KGB, then go back to squill for Japanese chat, but instead we procrastinated until 4:30, and then I got to drive to Squill with Carl. I drove there during rush hourish time, but didn't take any major roads. Parked in the lot under the library and put in a shitload of quarters. We went to Fotoshop first and I dropped off negatives, and then we walked down the hill. We stopped in B&N and I bought a book on learning Korean and a Legolas bookmark. They have some pretty nice LOTR bookmarks there, they're nice pictures and they have a ring on them - very cute. After that we went down the hill intending to stop in at Games Unlimited to get some more Reiner Knizia two-player games for the lounge, except that FREAKING GAMES UNLIMITED IS CLOSED ON MONDAYS! Geez... I don't know how they do business when they're closed like 90% of the time. (Oh, there's a yarn store in Squill now too, which is also closed on Mondays. GRR.) Anyway. So we went to Chaya for dinner. This was at like 5:20. Usually we try to get there that early because otherwise they get crowded as heck (don't try to get a table at 7pm, it'll take an hour). But, we were like one of the only customers in there... there were two people at the sushi bar and another couple showed up after we were there for half an hour or so. I had their Maki combination dinner, which is a ripoff unless you really like eel handrolls, and a tempura appetizer, which was ok. After dinner we went back to B&N for a bit more and read such great literature as "Click Click Moo", the story of Farmer Brown and his typing cows.
So we went to Starbucks to meet up with Sobajima-san. Talked for about two hours... we covered the concepts of "probably", "definitely", "should", "could", "maybe", "ぜったいに", "だろう", "かもしれない", "おそらく", and such. In Japanese we talked about Bush and Gore a whole lot because Carl had brought his Japanese edition of Newsweek from about a year and a half ago, which was all about the post-election screwup. (It had the word 知れらざる on it, which was what he was asking about grammatically). I guess I got involved in as much of the conversation as I could, mostly because I don't know a lot of the Japanese words dealing with politics and I also don't feel that strongly about most of the issues.
After conversation, I drove home. It mostly went pretty well. I missed pulling over in my normal part of Bayard and got to do a 3-point turn and park on the other side of the road. Whoopee.
Now I guess I will go play some Konamix for real and unlock a bunch of songs.
