what a day!
so I went around town a bit in the afternoon, then to the Dome. Met up with Sakurai, the guy who was lending me a pass for the weekend, and his wife, and we went into the Dome, and I basically spent 2 hours either saying hello to people, or trading pinbadges. I have ALL the players now except Jimenez who is super-rare and doesn't count anyway. I don't, however, have the mascots, because people would only trade them for rares. I do, however, have a 2006 Imanari pin now, so I have ALL of his! And I was given a 2007 Yohei Kaneko so now I have all of his too... but how bittersweet that is :( I think the Yohei thing is hitting me harder than it should.
Said hi to a whole ton of people. Worse, people kept giving me gifts and stuff. Sakurai insisted on buying me a cola and fries, and then Minako's mom found me and gave me a bag with some chocolates and some mikan oranges, and also gave me a spare Inaba Jump shield, and then I also got a Netsuenkai towel (that's the name of this particular cheering group), and oh man people kept throwing snacks in my direction all through the game. I had bought a big box of Tokyo Banana cookies in the airport this morning but I felt so lame because I didn't have big presents for anyone :(
Anyway, the Fighters blasted the Marines 11-1. Makoto Kaneko (shortstop, batting 9th as always) hit TWO home runs for a total of 5 RBIs, among other things. In the hero interview he said "Wait, why am I out here anyway? Sledge hit the go-ahead 3-run homer in the first inning, you know." Tomoya Yagi was the co-hero for pitching a complete-game win.
Oh, Hiroki Ueno pitched for the Marines too... he came in in the second inning with the bases loaded, thanks to Yuta Ohmine (who was charged with 8 runs ultimately). I actually squealed when he came out, because this is my first time seeing him pitch live in person since he was a university student. So that was kind of exciting too.
After the game, through a bizarre series of events, I ended up at Hillman's Hangout with 4 other fans. My life is weird. At least I got to eat nachos again :)
Now I am back at the hotel. Sapporo is kind of cold.
