The last day of Carnival, as it were

Ok, the first thing I want to say is: I know at least *someone* is probably going to say things like "Well, after all that whining Deanna did about Ann and Don's party, she didn't even go to it." Ok, that's true. But, see, this is what happened: I went to dinner with people at 7pm. I hadn't heard from anyone about a ride since the afternoon when a few people had basically said things like "yeah maybe, dunno when we're going over" and such (although Shawn did offer to maybe even come get me from Oakland if the party hadn't taken off by the time I was done with dinner). The thing is, so when I was done dinner, around 9, a bunch of people (namely Adam and Rehana and Zach and Simon, who I hadn't seen much of this weekend) were like "what are you doing tonight? wanna come hang out and play board games and stuff?" and I was thinking, "well, I'm not even sure if I'll get a ride to the party, so maybe I should just go do that." So, I did. Then Jen Gray called to offer me a ride as we were in the midst of setting up games at 9:30ish. So.. maybe I made a bad choice. I dunno. I'm retarded sometimes. I guess in the deepest parts of my heart, I was still feeling a little sick from this morning and wasn't sure I could handle a big party after all.

So I want to thank everyone who offered me a ride and apologize to anyone who cares, because I am a big doofus. I guess my main regrets are really that 1) I didn't see [personal profile] chite this whole weekend and 2) I still haven't seen [personal profile] amergina now that she weighs a ton less than me.

Ok. On to today. So I woke up this morning around 10:30am feeling REALLY horrible. I couldn't sleep, really... my stomach was grumbly and pangy and I had a headache and since we didn't sleep with AC on last night I was sort of clammy and stuff, and really really sniffly. But, I got up and showered anyway... and made vague plans with [profile] buoren to hang out on Midway for a bit in the early afternoon, but, I was just feeling so icky that I fell back asleep for a little bit instead. Eventually I got up and dressed and all and ate a "breakfast" of Pocky and DayQuil and I walked to CVS to get more film and then I went to campus around 1:15pm.

I showed up at the KGB party with [profile] mj2q and his sons, and Aaron, who was still looking for Bryan or Happy. There was a wide range of KGB folk there, from several current members ranging all the way to... hm, I forget who the oldest one there was, but I'm guessing it's either Mike Gelman or Tom Strong (or Cookie Monster). Oddly enough, I knew everyone there, though, which was sort of cool. I got to talk to lots of random people, like to Robert more about pinball machines and Pump It Up (and for the record he said "If you see Lynne first, tell her I say hi, and if I see her first, I'll tell her you say hi, okay?"), and to [personal profile] zaph to make fun of his Apollo 18 shirt (I actually considered wearing mine today, but unlike his, I've actually had mine for 10 years and it's falling apart). And I got to see [profile] johnmeier1 for a bit too, and [profile] mistergone and [personal profile] damion and [profile] teki and well, all of the usual suspects, really. Teki and John got a cake for KGB, except it wasn't very well decorated so the rest of us went at it, decorating it with lots of stuff (Kirstin wrote "Long live the revolution" and [personal profile] enigmaticfox drew the KGB logo, and [profile] ijikeru made the hehenonomohi face, and I wrote ケージービー on it (basically KGB in katakana), and there was various other writing. Eventually it became evident that we really needed a knife to cut the cake with and stuff. Oops. Oh, in the meantime I called Tim Showalter's cell phone and had everyone in the room yell "FUCK YOU, TIM!" into the phone for old times' sake, which was quite amusing. He replied, "I'm touched! And insulted..." heh. I did try to escape the party like three times to go to Midway, but people kept showing up with stuff and I kept following them back in. The furthest I got was halfway down the cut before I ran into Bryan, James, Jen, and Rob... so I gave up and came back with them. It was sort of cool to walk into the room with all of them though. (We basically WERE the KGB exec 96-98... 96-97 had Tim as pres and gootmu as corsec, and 97-98 had Jason R and Chuck as 1st VP and Jason G as corsec) So we got a picture taken of us. It was great because I was thinking "hmm, who here might actually know how to use a real SLR... oh, I bet Sherri does..." so I went over to Sherri to ask her whether she could take a picture and GET THIS! We have the same camera! :) well, practically. I have a Minolta X-9 and she has an X-370, but as far as we can tell looking at the camera bodies they are IDENTICAL.

Eventually I did make it out to Midway. I went around a bunch of places, for the half hour or so I spent there. I ran into Ethan Bold! He said "Let's meet at the Giant Eagle. You get cash and I'll get burritos." This is sort of one of the weirdest inside jokes that could possibly exist, but it was cool nonetheless. He took a picture of us that actually I should ask him for 'cause I think it looked cool. Oh, and I ran into Dave Koes on my way to campus, I forgot that part. So, I went to the APhiO tent on Midway, where I saw a bunch of random alumni since I got there around the end of the alumni concessions shift. So I sat around and chatted for a bit, and eventually escaped and made my way to the lounge, where I met up with Trey and Carl and we went to the Scotch'n'Soda show.

Ok, so this year was another student-written show, "Dies Irae", by the same inimitable Chris Ruth and Matt Heap. I guess I will be brutally honest here and just say that I really wasn't too impressed with the show. Well, that's not entirely true. As compared with last year's half-decent script and half-decent music, this year had excellent music, I was pretty impressed with that part, but it was heavily lacking in good dialogue in several parts and in lyrics and stuff. (After one song which basically spent about two minutes having two couples duet singing "I love you, I love you, I love you, I need you I love you" over and over again, Trey and I looked at each other and I said, "I think they ran out of words, what do you think?") However, the actors did a generally decent job with what they were given - the female lead had an amazingly good voice - but I think there were several things that didn't come through right. For example, there was this female cop character, who would talk in a low voice, but then sing in an operatic soprano voice, and that kind of didn't work for me - I kept dreading her singing. There seemed to be an ongoing gag about actors interrupting people singing with random dialogue, but it wasn't stressed enough if it was a gag. Oh, but for the record, Hunter Howe put in another excellent performance as a character named Finkelstein, this time a cop instead of a security guard. I guess I did forget, there was this one awesome scene where they had all of the male cops doing an officerkrupke-esque song/dance number that was really terrific and one of the high points of the show.

So anyway, we went to the lounge after the show again, and met up with people to get dinner at Taste of India. There were 16 of us (I will try to remember around the table starting to my left... Zach, Adam, Babailey, [personal profile] techstep, Becca, Vince, Robbins, Aaron Solochek, Qarl, Rehana, Kaustuv, Carl, Martin, Simon, Trey, me) and we had a lot of food and drink and merry. It actually wasn't even that bad being across from Robbins, oddly enough. I guess since he didn't piss me off within 5 minutes of dinner starting, I decided to take a good open-mind approach to it all and be friendly until a necessity to be otherwise, and it worked pretty well and dinner was pretty enjoyable, I was glad to get to talk to Zach and to meet Aaron for the first time in person (I think he was a little surprised when I came up to him outside the lounge like "Hey Aaron, how's it going?" though) and to get dinner at ToI for real - with the big group we just get tons and tons of nan and pakora and tamarind chutney and stuff for free :) Also, since all I'd eaten today was pocky, dayquil, and a little bit of cake, I was STARVED, so ToI was ideal (although I didn't actually even finish my meal).

Oh, at ToI we ran into [profile] naufiel and [profile] cdwfs and other various KGBers at another table, who were drowning the sorrows of the KGB Booth not winning anything. Which is a TOTAL ripoff. The KGB booth was really gorgeous and fun and beautiful and had curved wall sections, dammit, and I can't believe it didn't win anything at all - even the t-shirt was way cool. How lame is that... oh well.

And well, after dinner as you know, I went and played games in the lounge. We played Apples with 11 people for an hour or two, which was amusing (I sort of wish I'd written down some quotes from that game. "Useless? Who the heck is Shania Twain? Oh, a CANADIAN COUNTRY SINGER? *YOU* are USELESS!"), and then split up, and that was a little more annoying because I ended up in a game of Trumpet with Carl, Bayani, Shuma, and Toni, and it was just retarded, but then Martin showed up and we got a game of Great Dalmuti going, and you know how much I love Great Dalmuti (but we never get to play it anymore). I even managed to be the Dalmuti for 90% of the game! Heh. (I also want to mention at this point that MARTIN RULES!)

The game broke up eventually because it was LATE and then we went home and now I am home and writing this and well... umm... I should go sleep because it is almost 3am.

I can just tell that tomorrow or Monday or whenever I run out of momentum, I am going to wake up and be utterly and totally sick and have to spend a day just resting and stuff... but for the time being I think I will continue to go about my usual running around like a (cdr chicken), as Eli would say.

So, I am glad to have seen those of you that I did during Carnival, and sad to have not seen those of you that I didn't, and hopeful to see all of you at one point or another.

(cdr chicken). I would whine about what a terrible pun that is if I weren't planning to use it at some future point.

Uh oh, my secret punning identity is out.
