It's like the 25th was a day early

Since the 25th this month is a Saturday, I got paid on Friday. Which is cool. I ran errands after school and basically tried to get all of my monthly fixed things-I-have-to-pay out of the way: I furikomi'ed my rent money, I took my electric and gas and phone bills to the convenience store, and then I threw a bunch of money back into my postal savings account that E-Mobile slurps money out of once a month for my internets. (I threw a little more than necessary on the theory that when I go to Sapporo if I need emergency money, it will be easier to find a postal ATM than to find a Shinsei-friendly ATM.)

Yeah, so I went to school for 2 hours this afternoon, ostensibly for English Club, but again only one student showed up. We played my modified Scattergories game, with the teacher who runs English club, under the caveat that the student could use her dictionary, we two teachers could not, and also, no time limit. In the meantime, apparently soccer club today became Swimming Club, and a whole bunch of soccer boys came by to "say hi" on their way to the pool, by which I mean harrass us, but mostly in a good-natured way. What is odd about Japanese schools is that sure, we have 6 weeks of summer vacation, but in reality, most of the kids, and all of the teachers, are still going to be at school every day, just that there aren't any classes.

After school and after errands I went to do 2 hours of cheap karaoke by myself. It's not only good reading practice, I'm also getting a handle on what keys I should be setting certain singers/songs to. Spitz, for example, is really best if I move it up 1 or 2 keys. But then today I was trying to see if I could make it through Angela Aki's "Home", and the key is right, except that one high note at the end which cracks me kind of like aiko's "Kabutomushi" does. Alas.

Then came home and watched the All-Star Game, to which I say: WTF. At least the Fighters were well-represented and did a good job of kicking butt, aside from certain closers I won't name. The CL won on a gyakuten 2-run homer off said closer. The best part really was just the guys in the color commentating -- various players came in and out from inning to inning, though the funniest was probably when Suguru Egawa was like "What is with the Pacific League fans? They sure BOUNCE a lot! Oh yeah, here's that Inaba Jump thing again."

I played Puzzle Pirates, too, and worked on my writeup of the HS game from a few days ago, and it is raining and I am a slacker and I should sleep and all that. Yeah.

My dad died about 6 months ago today... it feels like a really long time and yet a really short time. I'm starting to try to do paperwork for stuff about it though, so it's on my mind a bit lately.

"I furikomi'ed my rent money, I took my electric and gas and phone bills to the convenience store"

I'm sort of interested to know what this means, I assume the first one is like Paypal. I'm not sure how the convenience store would help you out regarding your bills though, I'm very curious about that. When I visited Japan it seemed like the 7-11 and AM/PM were similar to here.

I remember in school in the US we would have 10 weeks of vacation, and nothing to do then. If everyone is still coming to school during summer vacation it would seem like the Japanese would have a hard time scheduling a family vacation, I wonder what they do.
