So I was wasting time at the Sengawa Daiso before meeting up with Pau tonight, when I saw this and just had to get out my camera:



Yeah, I know what it SAYS, but you have to admit you did a double-take too.

Anyway, aside from that, I went to the Hiroshima-yaki place with Pau again -- can't remember the last time I went there, maybe last summer. But this time I had just come back from Hiroshima, and had omiyage, so Pau's like "meet my crazy friend! Her head is also full of baseball!" Because, like, the restaurant is entirely full of college baseball stuff. Mostly autographs from former college stars who went pro, but also things like team championship photos and whatnot... and a big 11x14 photo of Kenshin Kawakami on the mound when he was a college student, things like that. Since last time, he seems to have gotten signatures/photos from Takahiro Imanami, and Kei Nomoto, and Rakuten's Nishitani, and I forget who else, but basically mostly Meiji alumni. Still cool though. I like being in a place full of baseball dorks eating yummy okonomiyaki. Wonder if we can go back sometime before Pau leaves, so I can maybe go back someday on my own...

Also, so yeah, I just carried home two huge heavy bags full of baseball magazines. I wonder what the heck I'm going to do with this all when I leave the country, sigh -- but it IS really awesome reading through this stuff.

That picture is hilarious.

I am still surprised that so many things there have English words on them at all. Are a lot of items sold with the same packaging across countries, or are they catering to visitors, or do the Japanese just love saying things in English?

I really don't know why they do it, but yes, they love putting random English words on things for no real reason.

I think the theory is that using Latin letters is supposed to make something more sophisticated and thereby more high class. That's why you don't see any Japanese on the cars made here (some of the names are definitely weird with Nissan leading the pack with their Bluebird, Sunny, Fairlady, etc. although these aren't used any more). It's only been about 20 years of so, since even the electronics companies started to use Japanese on cassette players and the like instead of Play, Rec, Pause, etc.

Ah, the commercial version of the game that we played in grade school by making the triangular ball with a piece of paper and the goal posts with our fingers.

I didn't know it was called Flicking Football (at least we didn't call it that) and we definitely didn't call it Fucking Football. ;)
