another manic monday?

I had one class today. I wanted to go help out at another one and was told not to. WTF.

I ran an activity in another class, and it sucked, because despite being an "advanced" class, the kids all cheat rampantly and nobody does anything about it.

Whatever. I had some spare time after preparing the lesson for that latter class, and spent it making sabermetric stats for the Tokyo Big 6 university league. It's dead scary how freaking good Hosei was this year compared to the rest of the league. What stymies me though is the overwhelming jump that several players saw in their batting from last year.

After work I played volleyball with Tokyo Gaijins for the first time. There were about 16 people there, so we played 6-on-6 and after each game, the winning team would stay on the court, two people from the losing team would stay, and the other four people would swap with the people who sat out the last round. I saw a few people I knew from Intervoll there, but something really weird -- despite having 4 hours of sleep and barely anything to eat today, I played REALLY well. By the end of the night I was even serving well, which is just plain freaky.

A big difference between there and Intervoll was that almost everyone was foreign, except for like two Japanese women. The other big difference is that people hung out and talked between games. One round I was talking to people who actually knew what the hell CMU was, and one of them was a girl from New Jersey, the other was a guy from Seattle. Go figure.

(It makes me curious about Tokyo Gaijins in general -- though they say it's open to whoever, and there are a lot of Japanese members who want foreign friends, I have this hunch that it IS skewed heavily towards females in that aspect.)

Anyway, they play down at a building right next to the Mita subway station, so I was a dumbass and thought it'd be a good idea to take the Toei Mita line home to Motohasunuma and try walking from there. Only two problems with that: 1) it takes 20 minutes to walk, and 2) nowhere was really open by 10pm to grab some food, and I hadn't eaten dinner so I was starving. In reality I should have just walked the block or two to Tamachi station and taken the Keihin-Tohoku back to Akabane, which takes the same amount of time but has a shorter walk on the other end and a lot more food options.

I dunno.

I'm out of pants, so I did one load of laundry when I got home.

Also, I spilled lemon tea on my keyboard and had to take out several keys to wash them off. Unfortunately the Ctrl key on my left side esems to have gotten broken somehow when I took it out and now I can't get it to go back correctly, which sucks.

It's 12:30am now and it looks like it's going to be another night of like 4-5 hours of sleep -- I really should head off soon. I wonder if maybe I've been so cranky lately due to lack of sleep, or for actual real relevant reasons to be cranky.

I'm curious--was this at the Minato-ku municipal gym?

Hmm. I went through that very station last week when I was up there. Small city. :)

Also.... "skewed". Heh. Although I like your version better.
