I caught up on Megatokyo last night

Maybe it's just that I don't particularly like manga/anime/etc, but the current storyline kind of bugs me. I'm not sure why I continue to read it other than just... it's been almost a decade and I still want to know what the hell he plans to do with the characters? So I still read once a month or so, I guess.

Anyway, here's the thing. Piro seems all paranoid right now about there being pictures of Miho on his laptop... except... when Piro MET Miho the first time, or at least, when he found out that she was his (female) character's ex-boyfriend in Endgames, the exchange went something like "I didn't know you were a girl" and "you couldn't believe that a fragile little Japanese girl was responsible for the exploit that took down the entire Endgames server?" and so on.

So... if Piro had pictures of Miho on his laptop before he moved to Japan -- WHY wouldn't he recognize her? And how would he not have known that she was a girl in real life? I call WTF.

I suspect Fred has simply forgotten, or has chosen to rewrite things in favor of the story he wishes to tell now.

Yep, I was thinking the same thing. Although his emphasis (the photos as catalyst notwithstanding) seems to be more on the chat logs ("Most of it's on here. You can read it if you want.") than on the downloads.

The story's lost a lot of momentum over the years. It's Fred's, and he can do what he wants with it of course, but it'd be nice to see it get some movement back.

Ah, good question, and one I hadn't caught. Have we established that Kimiko has no English at all? I can read Portuguese well enough to get a pretty clear translation of Brazil-flavored spam, but have very little faith in my ability to carry on a conversation of any substance; I think I'd fall back on English easily when speaking with a Brazilian who spoke English as well as Piro seems to speak Japanese.

I'll admit, I'm reaching. I think sloppy continuity in the service of emo plot developments that Fred really wants to play out is the most likely explanation for most of this.

Out of habit, I read the new pages as they show up on my newsfeed, but updates are so sporadic that I really can't tell what's actually happening with the plot most of the time (I'll have forgotten what happened before)--and nor do I usually care.

I've been reading since shortly after it started too. No interest in it anymore since it slowed to less than one update a week and the story hardly advances, but I've been reading for so long I'd still like to know what's happening next. Funny thing is, it's been several years and less than a month has gone by in the story, right?

I gave up on Megatokyo when it became Fred's Piro's fanboy wankery. There's only so much Mary Sue I can take before I feel the need to pummel the creator. Never mind the fact that a year's worth of strips is supposed to be one day of events. To steal a quote from someone, "You don't see that kind of pacing in geology!"

The real WTF is continuing to read Megatokyo. :)
