Sunday Monday etc

What we did on Sunday: Were lazy and slept in, instead of going to Rainier. Went to touristy things instead. Saw the aquarium ([personal profile] jeliza got us half-price admission) and then [profile] mh75 drove Josh to a baseball game and the rest of us went touristing on the piers. We went to "Ye olde curiosity shoppe", but not before I went by an arcade and ran in for a DDR check - they had PIU instead... anyway, Megan and Jeliza and Eli and I decided to get dinner after that. Since we were right by Elliott's, we decided to go there. (We called [profile] seanmcguire and [personal profile] rubylou who joined us around 45-60 minutes later).

The waiter really was either new or hated us, we couldn't tell which... since this was a big expensive restaurant, we were sitting around ordering appetizers for like 30 minutes, we probably seemed kind of odd... Eli tried oysters for the first time ever. I was too scared - the things looked like slurpy slugs in shells to me. The dinner itself was great though - Sean and Eli and I all tried different kinds of salmon and traded chunks to each other. Unfortunately I made a really bad call and I think I got the worst kind, and Eli got the best kind. Oh well. After that we went to a pub to "waste time before heading to the airport" (where we saw Joy and Ezzie again) but if we'd known, we should have just headed to the freaking airport.

See, we got there around 9:10, for a 10:30 flight. Then we waited in line for like *40* minutes to get our boarding passes. geez! It was really annoying. After that, we went to security. I managed to get through perfectly, but Eli got caught - they said he couldn't bring his tweezers and screwdrivers and stuff, which he has taken on flights TONS OF TIMES BEFORE, INCLUDING GETTING TO SEATTLE, on the flight. So, we had a choice of either going back and maybe being late for our flight, or giving them up. We gave them up. They had the subway shut down so we had to be bussed to the terminal. We got there around 10:15pm. Boarding started right after that. The flight itself was mostly uneventful. They showed Ocean's Eleven, which is much much better on a big screen than on an airplane screen (if nothing else, Matt Damon and Brad Pitt and George Clooney don't look attractive at all on a small screen), but, since I couldn't sleep I was glad to have a movie to watch. I slept for the last hour of the trip, maybe. Then we got home and I slept another 5 hours. And now here we are.

Yeah, flying US Air out of Seattle is teh suck. I think it's because they don't have their own terminal and only have this dinky little desk in the corner, so they feel all marginalized and stuff and take it out on everyone else. The security there can be pretty asinine too. Sorry that you got stuck with it, though - but hey, you're home safe after all. :)

And tweezers I can at least understand how they could be used as a weapon. My mother had a carabiner to hold her keys, and it was confiscated because "it was a weapon." Now for the life of me I can't figure out how the hell a carabiner is a weapon - the keys can be a weapon, but you don't see people taking them away! Bah, it's a load anyway. :)

funny, in all the time i flew USAir, including in and out of seattle, i had no problems. I have flown USAir all over the country. I used to fly USAir a few times a semester to Seattle.

Now, granted, about half of my departures and half of my destination were from PIT, which is big, nice, organized, and has USAir support out the butt. However...

I don't remember ever even having a delayed flight.
sigh. perhaps i am airline blessed or something.

i thought it would be easier to pass through security for USAir, since you wouldn't have to fight with the crowds that surround the United or NorthWest terminals.
