I am now dual-banked

Monday night after work I went to open a bank account at Shinsei because my contracting company said they can't deposit my pay into a post office bank account, and my company recommended Shinsei.

I went to Omotesando because there and Roppongi Hills are the only branches open past 5pm. I hate Omotesando. It doesn't feel like I'm in Japan -- there are a lot of new flashy foreign shops there (by which I mean stuff that would be normal on a shopping street in NYC, maybe), a lot of foreigners walking around, or Japanese people who are like wannabe foreigners, only they are dressed way too well to be Americans. Everything's expensive and there are a ton of signs in English... it's like Roppongi lite, without quite so many bars and clubs, basically.

But, I found the bank and opened an account. I just did everything in English -- I thought that'd be easier, just in case, so I didn't misunderstand anything. So, good, now I can get paid.

And then I bolted the fuck out of that area as soon as I could -- backtracked to Omotesando station and turned onto Aoyama-dori. Aoyama is fancy, but at least it feels like Japan... plus I get to walk by Aoyama Gakuin University and stuff like that. (I often walk from Jingu Stadium to Shibuya after games, rather than spending 150 on a subway for a 20-minute walk.) I walked to Shibuya from there, and I'm not really a fan of Shibuya either, but at least there is a Kua'aina on the way so I got a tuna/avocado sandwich on toasted wheat bread with a salad for dinner and it was like heaven :)

Whee.

I'm looking forward to the rest of the Fighters games this week... and maybe this weekend and maybe next weekend, but after that is like a month of no Fighters! Argh!

I'm still amused, however, of having a Japanese person actually come up to me and say that he saw my blog... even if it was because I linked to his Youtube...

...and Akki now says, every time I take a photo anywhere near him, "don't put this on your youtube!!" and I'm like "I'm not!!" I wonder if he means my blog and is just being a smartass?

It's REALLY hot today -- going up over 80 -- and it's HORRIBLE here in the school teacher's room :(

Also, after a drawn-out misunderstanding, it sounds like I have May 2-6 as Golden Week, and then a decent amount of vacation in the summer but a few days I have to come here and we don't know exactly when.

"Teacher's room"

Hey, I'm a nitpicking translator.

Shouldn't that be "faculty room?" ;)

Yeah, a lot of companies and local governments can't pay into a postal savings account for arcane reasons I don't understand. I have a Mitsubishi Tokyo UFJ account because of that. I've heard Shinsei Bank is really good though. Apparently they reimburse ATM fees, and also have internet banking (which the majority of Japan is still sorely lacking).

And dressed too well to be Americans? I'll have you know, my t-shirts and jeans are the epitome of high fashion!
