Sunday @ Seibu, Sapporo Squad Sweeps!

Yesterday I woke up at like 8am, and was at the Seibu Dome by 10:30am. Seriously. And it was already PACKED. The doors didn't even open until 11am!

Fortunately, I met up with Hiromi and we went and found Ojisan and Waka-chan and Mineji and all of those guys and they were like "ok, we'll save you seats, don't worry, go wait in line". So we did. Hiromi's husband couldn't go to this game so she gave me his ticket. (So score another on the freebies, heh.)

Hiromi and I hung out for all of batting practice... we watched some Fighters pitch in the bullpen and took photos of Tadano and of Masato Yoshii and Sakakibara and random people, then we went to explore the new features of the Seibu Dome, all the new restaurants. They are rather nice, BUT you have to buy a relatively expensive ticket to see them, which sucks. But we had fun going from level to level, exploring the picnic seats and random restaurants and stores, and even the super nice new bathrooms that don't require you to climb the entire stadium to reach, plus there's an elevator now, neat.

I snuck into a picnic section to get a photo, heh.

After that we went back to the bullpen, where a bunch of our friends were yelling ganbatte and other stuff at Brian Sweeney in Japanese, as he was warming up. One of the college guys -- he's holding a Glynn jersey in this photo -- asked me to please translate for Sweeney so he would understand them...

...I was like, "what do you want me to say?"

He said "Tell him that he should ganbatte for Ryan's sake too!"

I'm like "EEEEEHHHH?"

But I basically told Brian all the stuff they were saying -- "Brian, they want to tell you good luck but they can't speak English... this guy over here wants you to kick ass for Ryan's sake too..."

Anyway... there was a game... and sadly Brian didn't do so well. And the Fighters were tied 3-3 for half the game, then down 6-3 for a while, then 6-4, then 6-5...

...and Chikara Onodera, former closer, pitched the 9th for the Lions, and the Fighters managed 3 runs off him to win 8-6. Holy crap!

I spent the entire game in the front row cheering with people. By the end of it we had a bunch of us running back and forth across the entire row to high-five people after each run was scored and stuff like that. There was a lady from Hokkaido sitting a bit further down, and then the Tsuboi fans were with us -- I didn't know Mine is from Asahikawa until he was like "I'll be in Kanto for the Chiba series next, see you then?" and I'm like "EHHHHH?"

I wonder if Taka is also from Hokkaido or from here. He looks a lot like Imanari and was really nice, even if he was wearing a ton of Nioka gear.

Oh, and THESE guys plopped down behind us right before the game started and though none of us had any clue who they were, they cheered with us the entire game, and we even shared snacks and everything with them. They made their own t-shirts:

Hehe.

Kaneko was game hero for hitting 3 more doubles including the gyakuten one in the 9th. <3! I told Hiromi I may switch allegiances, and she was surprised but... if Hichori never plays, it's no fun to be only his fan.

After the game I caught up with my friend Masanori, who works for Seibu and speaks English. I gave him pins I got him in Philly from the World Series. He seemed... he seemed like "oh, whatever" about them, I thought he would think they were cool. Oh well. I need to actually bug him for tickets next time I come to Seibu, so. But I dunno if I'll go this weekend unless it rains, basically.

Hiromi and Ojisan and I rode back on the train a bit, and I went to Ikebukuro alone, and got dinner at Wendy's and played a game of Pop'n and browsed at the baseball card store, but the Fighters set isn't out yet.

I ended up reading stuff instead of posting last night and just conked out around 11pm.

Now I am at school. Whee.
