I had a sheep, but I eated it
You might remember that back in May of last year I got to go to the US Embassy of Japan to "cover" Bobby Valentine's press conference between Tokyo and NYC for his ESPN movie, and I got to meet the US Ambassador Tom Schieffer... well, I guess with the administration change, he is also no longer the ambassador. Weird.
As for today, woke up late due to staying up late, then went to the east side... Carl gave me a ride to Bell Square, where I was getting handed off to Andy again so we could go play board games, except in the middle I spent 10-15 minutes looking for stuff in JC Penney's before Andy showed up in his new car which is spiffy and has things like a bluetooth cellphone receiver so the entire car becomes a speakerphone, and a screen that says what music is playing and a place to put in SD cards with mp3s on them. Pretty neat stuff. He picked me up and we went out to Drew and Jason's house, where they were already playing some other card game with Django, so Andy and I worked on a cryptic crossword in Games magazine while waiting for the game to end... my puzzle brain is rusty but still pretty decent, I hope.
Then we played Agricola, with all the extra stuff thrown in. I had a pretty lousy set of Minor Improvements and Occupations, and while I got some wood-building and spending ones out quickly... eh. It was a bit odd because basically Andy was sitting to my right and had all of these abilities which made it annoying to take any actions because it'd give him stuff, and then Drew was sitting across the table and kept wanting the same actions as me too (only Drew took First Player and kept it for quite a while). I probably inadvertantly distracted Jason from a recap of the rules, and Django was a totally new player, so the final score was Drew winning with 50, me and Andy tying at 38, and the others were lower. I managed to have a really good last round, oddly -- Andy took first player so he could build fences, so my four actions were first to sow-and-plow (gaining me 2 VP for no field penalty, and probably even more for increased grain/veggies), my next was to build another clay room (+1 VP), then to convert all of my rooms to stone (5 rooms, +5 VP) plus build fences (+3, another pasture plus one less empty space plus fencing in a stable), and for my last move I did family growth (+3 VP for another person). Pretty productive, but didn't make a difference since Drew had a huge farm on his side of things. Oh well.
Despite snacking all afternoon on ice cream cake, and cheeses, we (well... we minus Django, plus Jason's mom who is staying at J&D's place) went over to a Chinese restaurant near their place, ostensibly for Chinese New Year, except since I won't eat duck, we just got a normal old pile of Chinese food and put it all on the spinny-table and ate way too much. I told Japan stories and whatnot, and listened to Microsoft babble stuff.
Drew and Jason gave me a ride home to Ballard after, stopped in for a bit, left, then I hung out with Carl until it was like midnight and then he went to sleep, because he has work tomorrow and staying up until 4am again would be stupid. :)

14 points in four actions is pretty cool. I seem to usually manage about 10: three each for the first two moves, then two each for the next two moves, and even if I have five discdudes, one of them invariably just picks up resources.
Agricola is my current favourite game. Perhaps I should, you know, buy it.
