I toured Citizens Bank Park today
I'm writing my NYC entry, but first just wanted to share a few pictures from today. See, I got home last night after midnight, then got up at 8:30am today to go down to the stadium. I figured this was my last chance for it.
The tour started off slow -- it was me and 5 other women and I was of course the biggest nerd. The funniest thing was when the tour guide was talking about all the details in Ashburn Alley and he mentioned the square clock and asked if we had any questions, and I'm like "Yeah, the square clock in Connie Mack Stadium was black with white, not white with black... why did they change it in this park?" and he's like "Would you believe, I've been doing these tours for 4 and a half years and you are the FIRST PERSON to ever ask that?"
We didn't get to go quite as many places as the Nationals park tour did, but we DID get to go to the dugout, and get this, while we were there, Phillies pitchers Ryan Madson and Sean Ellis came out to go do some long throws on the field. Seriously. I didn't realize it was actually them since I didn't think any players were AROUND this time of year... but the two women I'd been trading phototaking with went totally nuts. Turns out one of the women actually went to high school with Ben Davis's wife (he used to play in Seattle, didn't quite make it as Dan Wilson's replacement). Pretty crazy.
So when our tour got into the locker room, the guys came in and we actually all begged to get photos with them, and they said sure! That was really neat. I used to looooooooove Ryan Madson a few years ago. I guess I still do, but hadn't seen him in so long. He has a tattoo on his right leg with the names of his twin sons. Awwww. He was like "you guys don't wanna stand with me, I'm really stinky" but we're like "no way!"

The locker room staff guy had decorated for Christmas. He also gave away a Jamie Moyer bobblehead to another girl in our group (we had to guess a number between 1 and 9 and she got it)
Oh, here's a few more photos of me doing random stuff in the park.

With Sean Ellis. He's a local boy the Phillies signed this year, or something. He was working out with Madson.

Holding Cole Hamels's bat in front of Cole Hamels's locker :)

In the dugout, of course.

Hososeki, hososeki... no, just kidding. I'm sitting in Charlie Manuel's seat on the pressroom stage.

Riding the Phanatic's motorcycle!
I really gotta put up my Nationals tour photos so I can do my Phillies tour photos. I suck :(
After touring the stadium I went to Lee's at 40th and Chestnut and got a huge hoagie for me and my dad. My mistake was taking the BUS back instead of the subway. It took bloody forever. It was nice to have an excuse to just stare out the window at Philly and all, but...

There's nothing better than asking something that busts a tour guide out of their rote and makes them think. :)

Also, why are you batting Ty Cobb style?

Jayson Werth uses rounded-handle bats instead of knobbed ones, it's cool.

I'm also impressed that you happened to be on an all-female tour. My surprise probably reflects traditional British (sadly chauvinist) attitudes towards sports fandom more than anything else - my wife's a big Braves fan, after all, but it's still unusual enough from a British perspective to be noteworthy.
