Thanksgiving

Man, what a day. It started out with me having an extremely sick and painful stomach for most of the morning hours -- I went to sleep at 2am, woke up at 4am with what felt like heartburn, but I'm pretty sure is just one of those weird cases where I simply ate too much and didn't digest all of dinner. It's happened before but it's been a long time. Anyway, I finally threw up at 7 and 8am, and felt worlds better at 9am. Fell asleep again at 11am... and had to wake up at 2pm to go to Thanksgiving dinner. Whoops.

I still felt fairly sick as we headed out towards Lafayette Hill, so it's a good thing my dad WAS actually able to drive (apparently I didn't realize I have to apply for Phillycarshare anyway) because I'm not sure I was ready to face driving on the right side and everything else.

What to say about Thanksgiving? Well, we had a full house of 12 people at dinner -- me and my dad, my aunt and uncle (dad's youngest brother), my two cousins, my grandpa, and then my aunt's parents, her sister and brother-in-law and their son. Oh, and a dog (Zoey, who is adorable and belongs to my aunt's sister and her family).

It's weird seeing my cousins, because I remember when they were born. The older one, he's now 20 and a sophomore at Penn State, and the younger one, she's 17 and just got accepted to Pitt for college. She wasn't even alive at my bat mitzvah, which was really funny to realize. I was telling her all about Squirrel Hill and the other nice neighborhoods in Pittsburgh near the colleges, but also about living in North Oakland and being on a nice street and hearing gunshots one block away, heh. And then their cousin, who I guess is maybe my cousin-in-law or whatever, he's now almost 13... and he was born when I was in college. WTF.

I showed off my Japan photos to a few relatives. None of them have any clue who Bobby Valentine or any of the other players I interviewed this summer are, so they weren't impressed, though my aunt proceeded to ask me if EVERY guy in every photo I had was married, pretty much, regardless of whether they were my students, or friends, or random baseball players.

We ate a lot of food, all stuff I haven't had in ages being as we simply don't really have turkey and stuffing and cranberry sauce and all in Japan.

Afterwards we just hung out for a few hours. I watched the Eagles game with my cousins for a bit and fixed my cousin's laptop and things like that. I realized the last time I actually went to an Eagles game in person was uh, the 1986-1987 season. That's pretty nuts. I've never been that much of a football person, though, I just learned all the rules because of marching band. Anyway, I have no clue how one even goes to a game these days. The entire season is apparently sold out except for season ticket holders, and the stadium holds like 68,000 people! Even the nosebleed seats supposedly cost over $100, which is just plain RETARDED. I miss the 700 Level at the Vet where you could always go sit for cheap because it was in the stratosphere.

I'm thinking I might take a double stadium tour though! Phillies stadium tours start at 10am and Eagles stadium tours start at noon so if I time it right, I could maybe be in for 4 hours of stadium touring goodness! Wheeeeee. And that way I can see the new Eagles stadium without having to actually go to a game, I think.

Anyway, we came home around 9pm and I fell asleep by 11, because I was completely and totally zonked.

Seems there'll be another big family get-together at the end of December so I'll probably see everyone again then. Whee.

Though apparently my father has forwarded my LJ link to like, everyone in my family, which is extremely freaking weird when they all decide to talk about it as if I'm not even there. I'm yet again seriously considering going friends-only again... and at the same time, that's just not my style.

Now it is Black Friday (my cousins were actually going to some outlet mall at midnight to shop until the wee hours of the morning -- WTF) and I'm mostly avoiding shopping. Thinking of going over to Mad Mex actually :)
