Moving right along
I'm sitting here in my mostly-empty apartment in Saitama writing this entry. Pretty bizarre circumstances really.
So this morning I stayed up packing till like 5am, fell asleep on my "couch", woke at 9, kept packing. Still wasn't really ready per se when Sam showed up at 11ish. But, we loaded a ton of my stuff into his minivan (ok, more like, he carried a lot of my heavier stuff, because I'm a weakling now), and took it to Akabane, stopping at Ario on the way to get lunch (I had omurice. Mmmmm). Unloaded the van... I started unpacking stuff while Sam put a mailbox on the house. As it turns out, the big TV on the second floor DOES work, the problem is actually the ANTENNA signal. After a LOT of futzing we got the satellite to work, so now I can watch BS1 and BS2 and can't really watch terrestrial channels. Pretty bizarre. I should be able to see the World Series even though I won't have internet to write about it, heh.
I sprayed the bed with a ton of bug-and-mite spray. Hopefully this will prevent any bedbugs. Yeah, I will finally be sleeping on a bed again after sleeping on a floor for so long, because basically it'd be retarded to move the bed that's already there OUT of the house. That should be nice, I hope.
At 3:30 a person from the gas company came by. The gas in the house is fine but the hot water heater is FUCKED. They were going to send some more people over to look at it. Sam and I went to the Home Improvement shop or whatever it's called in the Akabane north station arcade, and I got some stuff for the house. Notably I got something called a furoisu, which is a "bath chair". I'm gonna learn how to use a Japanese bath for real. (While the house has a western toilet, I will note that I have actually pretty much completely gotten used to Japanese toilets in the last few months. Travelling a lot to crazy middle-of-nowhere places will do that to you.)
The gas guys came back, looked at the heater, and cracked up, like "oh man, this thing is totally broken." It was just pouring water when they tried to do anything with it. So it seems we'll need to get a new one. In the process of all this I met the next-door neighbor, who seems like a relatively nice lady... at least she didn't do any kind of "nihongo jouzu" thing like so many people did, she just chatted with me in Japanese about things like "man, I saw the cleaning people there, they REALLY made the place nice! shame nobody has lived here for so long!" or something.
Anyway... the gas guys apologized but said "you won't have any hot water today, maybe not tomorrow. we can hopefully put in a rental heater tomorrow, definitely by two days from now if not." So I'm like, okay, I guess I'll go shower at my old place. Heh. I wanted to use the internet AND in theory my insane landlady was going to come over to check the place around 9pm.
I watched a bit of the CL Playoffs while unpacking more -- dude, BS1! and then around 7pm left the house to come up here, armed with a towel and change of clothes and stuff. I got dinner at the kaitensushi by Warabi station. Which was good. Well, the sushi at least. The staff still piss me off, but whatever. Then I walked all the way back to the apartment, because my bike was here.
And then I cleaned. What sucks is that no matter how much I clean the bathroom here it is still going to look crappy. I almost think I should just give up and leave it as is.
Shiho came by around 10pm and apologized for being late, then was totally confused about what the heck was up with the arrangement for turning over the apartment. I hope she can get in touch with the right GEOS people so everyone gets their story straight.
Then I showered.
Now it's almost 12:30am and I better head out to catch the last train BACK to Tokyo. How weird.
Tomorrow's my last day of work, which is ALSO weird.
By the way, I decided I'm just not going to bother getting internet at the house, it's just too expensive I think. I called NTT today and even they were like "yeah, so if you go away for 2 months you still have to pay 5000 yen per month to keep the installation active". It just seems like too much trouble and money to install internet for like 2 weeks. It'll be an interesting experience for sure. I'll still have my cellphone with me so I'll still be reading email, just that my answers might be shorter than usual unless I'm at an internet cafe :)
ok bye.
