September rain
Tonight one of my students brought her Nintendo DS to GEOS to show me some games for learning kanji. Seriously. I sucked at it, it told me "You have the kanji skills of an elementary school 2nd grader."
There's no fucking way I'll be able to pass the 2-kyuu in December, but I'm gonna try. Dammit.
I got a passport photo taken today at a little photo thingy, because the in-Japan JLPT application requires one for whatever reason. Oi. Haven't sent it in yet but will do so soon. Need to buy a shinkansen ticket to go to Nagoya this weekend too. I guess I could wait until I go, but I like window seats.
I think I have figured out the rule that Heiroku makes the younger chefs take the busier lunchtime, because Kanno has been out there every time I've gone recently. He's always smiling and joking with people, which really makes it a lot more fun to be there. I wonder what's happened to Onodera, but I'm not really complaining. Haven't dealt with the crazy guy in weeks, too.
Oh, last night I went to the arcade after work and passed a Level 27 Random expert course for the second time on Pop'n. Maybe I only mostly suck as much as I think I suck. Then I got one of those "holding" Stitch UFO catchers. It took 1 coin, I hit it in the right spot. It's too big. I don't have space for my Stitches again, so this afternoon I bought a little mini corner shelf to put up in my classroom. Forgot to take a picture, I'll do that tomorrow if it survives my kids' class. What's neat is, the shelf holds 1kg and is mounted with big push pins. So simple. I'm not sure why it seems like 90% of Japan has these... whatever... drywall walls? that you can just put pushpins into easily?
When I got back to the bike parking lot after work tonight, I couldn't find my bike key for like 5 minutes. I thought I lost it on the train, and I had all these thoughts racing through my head about how I'd have to walk home, and hunt desperately for my spare key, and maybe walk back in the morning, and so on, and oh god that would suck and take so much time... then I remembered that maybe I put it in a side pocket in my bag. Sure enough, I did. But, yuck.
Speaking of cycles, what's with all these cycles in baseball this week? I saw one on Friday, then a day or two ago two guys in the majors hit one on the same day for the first time in 88 years. And then Ogasawara's Clean-shaven Doppleganger hit one tonight. Sheesh.
Oh yeah, Baystars beat the Tigers again. Awesome. If Bancho leaves in the offseason I will cry. For real.
It didn't rain today at all as far as I know, but the weekend is likely back to rain. Ugh.
The foraging puzzle on Puzzle Pirates is interesting. I don't like it per se, but find myself trying to still understand it better anyway, which hasn't happened for a while with their new puzzles, so I guess that's good.

Do you know what the names of those games were? I might look for them myself.

There's another that's more like a dictionary, but I haven't gotten it yet.

Are you saying you're not used to this? I grew up on the west coast, and there drywall walls are the norm. Pretty much any recent construction has them. (Contrariwise, several of the places I've been in in Pittsburgh have been lath-and-plaster walls, so you don't really want to stick pins in them...)
