Gaijin suck

No, really.

So there is this group of gaijin men who live in Warabi. Maybe. I don't know where exactly they live, but pretty much EVERY night as I am heading home around 11pm, they are loitering outside the gamecenter and 7-11.

I don't know what nationality they are, it's not American, they're not white (not black either), they don't speak English. They mostly look some sort of middle eastern to me to be honest. Occasionally one of them operates a truck and sells gyros or something with a big slab of meat he cuts off pieces from, but usually it's just them sitting there on the railing in a big gang staring at everyone who walks by. If I was back in America and saw guys like this loitering outside my station every day I would actually be TERRIFIED; as it is here I am mostly annoyed. I have to walk out of my way to NOT walk past them going home, and if I want to go to the arcade there is NO avoiding them. (And hell, half the time they spread out and are in the smoking section right outside the station instead of a block away.)

Anyway, they yell random stuff at me as I go by almost every day, and have done so for several months. It used to be "HEY" or "HELLO" or whistles or whatnot, or random words I couldn't understand. I ignore them, I don't even look their way if I can help it. Tonight, one of the guys yelled "WOOF WOOF!" and some more stuff I couldn't understand, and all of them laughed.

Fuckers. I'm so sick of this crap, and there is absolutely nothing I can do about it either. I had been getting vague cold feet about the idea of moving -- like I don't know if I can do all the proper paperwork -- but man, there are SO many things I won't miss about this area, too. Infact I simply can't imagine coming back here, period... I might maybe stop by the Diamond City mall again someday but nothing else really strikes me as indisposable (and I bet I don't even need to go to Warabi station to get a bus there -- one of the Nishi-Arai or Araijuku ones from Akabane station probably suffices).

You know what really bugs me? The reason why gaijin in this country have such a bad reputation, and there is such prejudice, is exactly because of things like this -- big groups of them who make trouble even if they don't make trouble per se. Hell, I bet people see me and figure I am friends with these jerkface assholes because I am also not Japanese, and as everyone knows, all gaijin know each other AND speak English.

I'm actually almost worried about them following me home someday or to the bike garage or something and then vandalizing my bike or something like that. Funny how I would never worry about this from Japanese people, which is naturally continuing with the retarded reverse racism issue.

Anyway, aside from that it wasn't too terrible a day. I started reading the magazine for the Industrial league baseball tournament in a few weeks and now I am pretty psyched about trying to go to watch that. I think every Koshien game today went the opposite of how I wanted it to, but oh well. And at least Japan beat Taiwan just now in baseball.

Are there no loitering laws in Japan. Sometimes in the states you can call the cops if people hang out in the same place all the time without purpose.

"WOOF WOOF"? o_o

I hate some gaijin too, but for a different reason. That reason being that some of them seem painfully egotistical. Not you, though.

I wonder if they're Russian. There were a lot of Russian guys in Hakodate who would hang around outside and generally look somewhat menacing, although they never caused me any actual trouble. A few times they tried to speak to me in English, but I'd just speak Japanese to them and pretend to not know English.

No, if I remember correctly they tended to be around in the summer. It's not like the same guys seemed to be living there continuously. As for jobs, I have no idea. All I ever saw them doing was hanging out outside in a busy area.

When I lived in China, the foreigners who embarrassed me the most were Mormon missionaries. They were really sweet, but made no effort to interact with the Chinese at all. On the other hand, we had a teacher from the Ukraine living with us. She didn't speak any English, and we didn't speak any Russian, but we all managed a bit in Chinese :-D

"And at least Japan beat Taiwan just now in baseball."

Booooo :P

Not that I was really expecting Taiwan to medal, but still: Booooo!

Re: Gaijin
Geez, that's shit. I hate it when they give other foreigners a bad rep :/

And statistically, a Japanese person is far more likely to vandalize your bike, but even knowing that, I too tend to be more wary of other non-Japanese here. Weird.

I wonder why people always make such big groups and hang out like that. Is it a way to combat culture shock? People list "not enough foreigners" as a reason Nagoya "sucks." I mean... it's Japan, what do these people expect?
