Carnival Friday wheeeee - Forum and KGB and whatnot
I overslept Mobot. Kind of. Since I went to sleep at like 5am, I got up at... 11:50am. Mobot is at noon. I was in Carnegie. Whoops. I showered and changed and got to campus as quickly as possible (there was also, naturally, a bunch of traffic on 279 going in). So, I saw like 3 minutes of Mobot, and by the time I got there around 1-1:30ish, most people had left. Oh well.
What is important is, I saw
jcreed and asked him if he'd want to go get lunch at Chipotle with me. And he did. I lent some sunscreen to
mj2q for his sons, and then walked off into Oakland with Jason. We reached a nice compromise on a burrito to split -- chicken (his idea but I was fine with it), pinto beans (his idea), mild salsa (both of our ideas), sour cream and cheese (my idea). And so naturally we were both like "Dude! Pinto beans are tasty!" or "Hey, sour cream is pretty good in a burrito!" As he mentioned, it was a little different than our traditional bagels, but still fairly awesome.
bk3c called me at like 2:35 and it was like "oh crap, we gotta get to the Scotch'n'Soda show!" So, I got to the SNS show (Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum) exactly at 3pm. But Ben and Mauricio and Holly saved me a seat so it was ok. As for the show itself it was actually REALLY GOOD especially for a SNS Sondheim show. The guy who played Pseudolus was really goddamn good, which pretty much makes or breaks that show. A few of the actors screwed up the timing of their singing, and since the orchestra was actually backstage or something like that it was difficult for them to resync sometimes, but it was mostly pretty good. And the dude who played Hysterium was a fantastic actor but a mediocre singer, but it actually really didn't matter I don't think. They totally fucking nailed the reprise of "Lovely" and the ensuing chaos. Oh yeah, and Philia was also great -- TOTAL blonde act, just completely over the top.
Okay, so after that I stopped by and said hi to ex-lounge people who were in the area over what is now Entropy and used to be the O. I kidnapped
bhudson and we went for a short walk to Schenley Park.
Which, naturally, made me a little late for the evening KGB party. I showed up around 7, which is the same time the pizzas showed up. AND GOOD GOD THERE WERE NINETY BILLION GEEKS THERE. (Okay, like 200, but that's still a ton.) It's really scary when you get an assortment of people from all 20 years of KGB. I saw people I hadn't seen or thought about in YEARS really. And if anything it was actually pretty overwhelming for me, my brain went into overload trying to remember so much about so many people.
They made all of the officers get up and give reports -- yes, that's ALL the officers from the last 20 years, so it took around 2 hours or so. I had no fucking clue what to do for mine, so I stood up, took a deep breath, bowed, and said "はじめまして。ディアナと申します。96年から98年まで2番の会長でした。宜しくお願いたします。" ("Hi, I'm Deanna. I was 2nd VP from 1996-1998. Nice to meet you.") Then in English I said "I'm Deanna. I live in Japan, thus proving that not only can you actually graduate from CMU, *and* leave Pittsburgh, but you can even leave the COUNTRY! End of report."
I am super-lame. But I am apparently the person who travelled the furthest to be there, as we had a map up in the entryway with pins for people's locations.
Lots of people had funny reports though. I'm gonna try to do better with the storytelling tomorrow I think.
I talked to a whole buncha people, but at the same time felt pretty antisocial. It's weird how that works. One funny part was finally meeting a guy who I knew in Puzzle Pirates about 5 years ago as Stiiv, who quit when the beta test ended. (And naturally the party organizer was Jay, who the PP folks know as Barrister. Though we didn't actually have all that many Loots around.)
Walked back to campus with Kevin and Abe afterwards, though we left Abe at the bus stop. Kevin and I went to the UC and found people still playing games -- recalibrated the people and ended up having a game of Mu and a game of Tichu.
garzahd requested actually getting to play a game with me, so he was my Tichu partner, and
cdinwood and
buoren were our opponents. We didn't keep score though.
I gave Kevin and Lahut rides back to Squirrel hill around 1am and then came back here to Carnegie. Talked to Bayani a bit and helped him move some bookcases around. Now it's 2:30 and I definitely need to be back on campus by 11am, possibly earlier... so I best go to sleep fairly soon. Whee. Also, I have a sore throat, which sucks.
Tomorrow's my last day in America! Yikes!

I should learn not to underestimate your sneakiness.
