dude, it's late

ok, so after I wrote that last entry...

I went to campus in the early afternoon, which wasn't too hard. Stopped by to see Mark Stehlik briefly (he ranted at me about the Pirates, which was therapeutic), then went up to find Justin W, who had IMed me. We got lunch from the trucks out on Margaret Morrison street -- thai food, which wasn't too bad. Talked for an hour or two, eventually saw Shafeeq and Larry (the latter of whom joined us for a bit), then Larry and I walked to go see the Kiltie concert, which we thought was at 3. Except it wasn't, it was at 3:30, and midway wasn't opened. We ran into [profile] jd7a and [personal profile] donutjay and their daughter Ariana, as well as [personal profile] klari and others I'm forgetting. And believe it or not, I got SUNBURNT while waiting in the sun there and I am a bit annoyed about it.

Concert started at 3:40 or so. [profile] sackofbob is the only Kiltie member I still know. They still played so many of the same songs (I'd just whisper to Kirstin, "Hey, this is Arabesque, right?") we'd done back in the day, of course, and a few new things. Also sang the Skibo Song AND Dear Old Tech at the end of the concert, oddly. Yay band.

Went around Midway a bit after that with [profile] jccw, including checking out the KGB booth and whatnot. Then we wandered to the UC, looked around the new parts of the basement, and then found some CSLounge/KGB folks in the second floor playing Mu and WoW and Bohnanza and whatnot. Hung out there a bit, then went off to Midway again, found more people, etc. This is kind of the story of my life, I guess. The Sig Tau guys made a Godzilla-eats-Tokyo booth -- and they had a Tokyo skyline complete with Nova eikaiwa signs. Funny part is they got some of their Japanese wrong -- one sign is supposed to say "gozira wa kimeteimasu" or something like that, except the "ra" is backwards. I asked, and the dudes working on the booth said they couldn't read Japanese. Sheesh.

I ran into Kristine, the lady I worked for as a workstudy at CERT waaaaaay back in the day. She still remembered all of these things from working with me ten years ago. It was fun to catch up a bit. Also ran into [profile] alicelee and [personal profile] madbard on my way off campus. And I saw other people I know along the way. It's weird, but that's what's great bout Carnival, feeling a little bit like I did when I was at CMU... but the students are all so young now!

I had to run some errands, so I went up to Edgewood for the K-Mart and Geagle. I really fucked up my timing, so by the time I picked up [profile] csg87 from Squill I had missed [profile] bhudson, whoops. Charlie and I went to Mad Mex to meet up with a bazillion people - [personal profile] soong, [personal profile] blk, [profile] vandebeast, [profile] es5f, [profile] arashink, [personal profile] jgs, [profile] rsbdeadman, [profile] bn29, [profile] zagthaar, [personal profile] jacquez, [profile] bk3c, [personal profile] cheerfulchaotic, [profile] ls56, [profile] jccw, [profile] mv2s, [profile] jd7a, [personal profile] donutjay, and eventually even [profile] ts4z showed up. I am undoubtedly forgetting people as well.

I'm gonna make Ben go see the SNS show with me tomorrow afternoon, hooray :) Long tradition there too!

After dinner I drove with Charlie over to [profile] mj2q's house, where people were playing board games. Played some Tichu with Stevie and Rob, with Charlie as my partner. And eventually I just gave up and went home -- well, to Bayani and Kate's home -- around midnight for fear of driving too tired. Getting here wasn't too hard actually -- I just reversed the quick-highway-route I did on the way in, and it worked. Yay.

However when I got here I ended up talking to Bayani for like 3 hours about games and D&D and Japan and random crap. So now it is almost 5am and geez, I could go watch buggy now! except like, the whole thing about sleeping, which I should do. I'm still gonna try to be up in time for Mobot -- that shouldn't be too hard.

One big worry though is that my throat has felt sore all day -- since my second flight. I thought it was just dry, but maybe it's something worse. Which would suck, because Carnival has had such nice weather so far dammit, I want to enjoy this weekend and then go back to Japan happy.
