I am in... Pittsburgh! Whee!

ok, I am in Pittsburgh, at Bayani and Kate's house out in Carnegie. it's awesome! it's just like George and Chris's house, and they even want to knock down the exact same kitchen wall. hilarious.

gonna head to campus in a bit. it's crazy to be back in Pittsburgh.
I don't know the exact plan for Mad Mex tonight so I'll probably look for people or call around or something. My cell is in an earlier entry if you need it.

as for yesterday, I went to the DMV in the morning and renewed my driver's license. hooray! that took a lot longer than planned, and then I headed out to Bell Square to meet up with Mike for lunch so he could give me a USB stick full of Puzzle Hunt stuff. We had lunch at Cheesequake, and I'm glad I got a chance to really talk to him before skipping town. Sigh.

Then I had to go shopping. You know what's stupid? I hate clothes shopping (and shopping in general), but I spent most of this trip shopping, because there were so many things I needed to get here. Ugh. I guess it's no different than when we go to Japan and spend so much time there shopping, but let's face it, shopping for Japanese CDs and videogames and baseball stuff is a LOT more fun than, say, shopping for deodorant and suit pants. Ugh. Anyway, I managed to get some shoes and stuff, so it wasn't a total loss. Also some omiyage finally, from the Made In Washington store. My students are going to looooove chocolate-covered cherries. Or else.

Came back, and Carl was home mopping the floors because he'd taken off a half day to hang out with me. Except of course I didn't get back until 4:30 due to traffic on 520, whee. So all we did was run to Fred Meyer again, and hang out talking for a bit. I packed up stuff, and we went down south so I could return my rental car and Carl could pick me up from the rental car place (but he got lost). By the time we met up with Oren for dinner at Claim Jumper it was like 8:50pm. Whoops. But, we got done by 10 and it all worked out and I got on my 11:30 plane just fine. Mindy, I'm really sorry about timing -- I tried to call around 8 but got no answer...

I slept for the entire plane trip, both halves of it. I was awake in Chicago to transfer planes but that was it. Oddly, I had this weird memory of hanging out in O'Hare with Cheryl last year. I think that was fun. My mind is weird.

Getting to Pittsburgh and getting the rental car was easy. Getting to Bayani's house wasn't, but with the magic of cellphones he directed me here. Woohoo.

Anyway, er... I'll write more tonight I suppose. It is sad though that 8 months is a pretty long time. You don't really think about it until it's either behind you or in front of you, I think.
