The Weekend That Will Not Suck, Part 5

It's 4am and I don't want to go to sleep because when I go to sleep the weekend ends and then I have to go back to work and normal life and bleh.

First off, I did my annual April Fools' joke on Marinerds. Unfortunately this year I still don't have a working Japanese IME on this laptop so I had to do something slightly different but I'm fairly sure that all of my stalkers in the Lotte front office will get a kick out of it, at least. I also posted my ninety billion pictures of Shunsuke Watanabe, although man, that net really does get in the way. Sigh.

Ainori wasn't on TV tonight. That was sad. SMAPxSMAP wasn't particularly thrilling either and I ended up ignoring it to work on said game report.

In the evening I went down to Tokyo and met up with [profile] samuelp, who I hadn't seen since we both left Pittsburgh/CMU in 2002. (People on my flist who I knew back then may either remember him as Sam from Kiltie Band or Sam from DDR depending on who you are.) As it is, Sam is now a postdoc in physics at the University of Tokyo, and we both found out about each other being in Japan a week or two ago. And man, Sam hasn't changed a bit. Well, except that now he plays Taiko instead of DDR... and that he seems to have become an incurable anime nerd. So we'd have these weird conversations where I'm talking about baseball, he's talking about anime, neither of us really has any clue what the other person is saying, but somehow it works out anyway.

We ended up going on a long walk around town -- meeting up at Ochanomizu station, stopping in at a music store or two, walking down to Jimbocho, and Shosen Bookmart, where I finally got the Shube data file issue from 2007, and the one from 2006... and I got the Dragons April monthly because it's COOL, and I got May's issue of Pro Yakyu Ai, and I got the Fighters "goodbye Hillman & Yukio" mook from last fall too, and... and I need to stop buying baseball magazines. Sam bought some big green Japanese dictionary that he was apparently looking for. And then we ended up walking to the Tokyo Dome. We got kaitensushi at the place by the Suidobashi station tracks that I sometimes go to before/after games. It was really good. And then we walked around the Dome and around LaQua and all. We stopped in at a few game arcades since I'm hoping to find Pop'n UFO catchers, and we watched the water show at 8pm which was to My Fair Lady music. And I went around the Yomiuri Giants kaimakumatsuri where they had tons of Giants stuff on display from spring training and whatnot.

And then it was COLD so we headed home around 8:30pm.

CRAP I am heading back to Seattle in less than two weeks and I really need to get my act together for it, like making plans with people. Argh!

Yay, Seattle! I'm sure I should have been paying more attention, but... how long will you be here? Faustine is getting tired of learning the lute...

Or maybe it's an April Fool's joke? it's not April Fools Day here yet so you're not allowed to play jokes on us.

:-( One of the things I'm sad about not going back to Tokyo is that I'm not going to get to go back to HusHush at La Qua and buy Rebecca bigger rainbow shoes. She's finally growing out of the ones I bought her last fall. :-(
