Long but fun day
Delivery company screwed up, or I did, it's unclear, but either way they didn't deliver my Fighters package in the morning so I still don't have my members card so I still can't order tickets to go to Sapporo in golden week and I'm beginning to get scared. Krispy called the company and hopefully rescheduled it for me for tomorrow morning. Sigh.
So in the afternoon I met up with Pau and Krispy at Shinjuku station (Sophie was supposed to come but she ended up sleeping all day instead). We found a Denny's near Chuo Park and sat there for like 4 hours playing Settlers of Catan and eating food. Apparently, "go to Denny's and waste all afternoon there" is actually a feasible plan for playing board games, although it gets very tempting to order desserts, as we found out. I won the first game of Settlers and Pau won the second, although it was really close, Krispy would have won on his turn right after Pau's otherwise.
After that I went to the Red Sox vs. Yomiuri Giants game at the Tokyo Dome. The Red Sox killed the Giants 7-2, mostly on a grand slam by JD Drew given up by Adrian Burnside. I got to watch from fairly close up though, and I hate to admit it but I really like Tetsuya Utsumi, even though he is OBVIOUSLY PURE EVIL because he's on the Giants. The MLBification of the game was really disturbing, all of the announcing was in English (but the scoreboard was entirely in Japanese) and they added crap like the Hot Dog Races (RERISH NOOOOOO!!!), and "hide the baseball under the pagoda", and the Red Sox mascot of some sort, the Green Monster, was there frolicking with the Giabbits. Hideki Okajima's appearance spawned a BAZILLION camera flashes, which was sort of funny. It was also really weird seeing Bobby Kielty. I forgot he wasn't on the A's anymore.
On my way out of the stadium, I almost walked right into Shigetoshi Hasegawa and his posse. That was surreal.
