more inspiration for indecision

Just watched Sliding Doors. Hmm, I thought it was pretty good.

I still have a little bit of trouble trying to appropriately string together the events in the movie. Like she was feeling faint at the same time in both realities because of being pregnant, but somehow I thought she had become pregnant in both realities by Jerry, but it turned out in the "happy" reality that it was by James. (which makes sense when I remember what events happened, but didn't when i was watching the movie). There were a few times when I honestly couldn't remember who the heck was still together with who in which realities, but it wasn't much of a problem. The main problem was time. It was usually hard to tell how much time had passed between whatever scenes were being shown.

the only thing I didn't get was the ending. well, I mean, I got it - they couldn't end the "happy" reality and then not have the illusion of a happy ending anyway -- but what is unclear to me is what happened in reality reality. Unless the idea is that when the happy reality Helen died, she took that entire reality with her... so the James she meets at the end has never known her, except for in the old PR firm and that one second at the bar at the beginning... and he has just been going on with separating with his wife and was just in the hospital to visit his mother, etc.

well, whatever. it's just going to make me even more indecisive about things... funny how just replaying 5 seconds of your life differently can make such a difference.

I liked this movie, too.

It sounds like you got the basic idea of the story. Although I wouldn't think of the "happy" Helen as taking her reality with her when she died. Just that the storyline for her stopped right then and there, but the rest of the universe kept on going.

And if you liked that movie, then I whole-heartedly recommend the Independent Spirit Award winner, "Run, Lola, Run". You'll probably find the storyline a lot easier to follow than "Sliding Doors" since it follows one "reality" at a time. Listen to it in German, read the subtitles.

Lola Rennt was indeed very good. If nothing else, it's got a great soundtrack.

Run Lola Run rocked! Definitely a cool movie. I liked it as much, if not more than Sliding Doors. But Sliding Doors had Gwyneth Paltrow and took place in England, so I'll rule in favor of that one.

I quite like both Sliding Doors and Run Lola Run, but I'll rewatch SD over and over again without compunction; for me, it's become an incredibly cathartic movie. I think because in RLR, there is not only a clear sense of getting it "right", but it is the version without death. In both endings of SD, someone dies, and it is handled in such a real manner, that each time, it bring's me back to my mother's deathbed. I get to visit that memory, and process a little bit more, but without getting lost there for hours and days on end.
