Unsunny Day Sunday
I accidentally ruined one of my dress shirts today, the nice white one I've been wearing to work quite a bit lately. I did laundry in the afternoon, and as usual I took a load of stuff to dry in the dryers at the coin laundry down the street. Only thing that I think I did different this time is that I didn't dry things in a net, since I was doing a second load of laundry in the meantime and had the net in the washing machine. So, the shirt came out with all of these marks all over it and I actually think they're BURN marks. I suppose I could try to wash it again and see if the marks come out, but I'm not holding out much hope. Ugh.
Also, the guy next door was VERY careful to not actually talk to me while we were both doing laundry. As in, I'd come outside to put fabric softener in the machine and he would disappear into his apartment until I went back inside. I know Japanese people don't like to talk to their neighbors, but this is pretty ridiculous.
Anyway, I decided to go up to the nearby Jusco and see if I could get a new dress shirt, maybe. I failed to actually get anything there except some socks in the end, but I did try on a whole lot of jeans and some shirts. I did find a pair of jeans that I think I should get, but didn't want to get them at the moment so I didn't. I've been really indecisive even when I find pants that fit, basically. I did find a white dress shirt that I wanted to get, except the only had it in white in size 19, and amazingly, size 19 is now too big for me. Alas.
I came home and changed and stuff and then went off to Ueno to meet up with people for the GEOS bounenkai. It sucked. That's all I have to say about it. I want my Sunday back.
To make up for it all I went shopping again. I wanted to go somewhere completely new so I eventually ended up in Urawa-Misono. That was awesome. The station is COMPLETELY FULL of Urawa Reds stuff, since it's the station by the stadium. I'm not a soccer fan or anything but I love it when transit stations are really sort of pwn3d by the local sports team.
I walked over to the Aeon/Jusco mall and went to see if they had the dress shirt in my size in white. They didn't, but I tried on sizes 17 and 15 in a brown shirt. I asked a saleslady about white shirts, and she said they used to have them, but no more, and did I want them to try to order one for me? I explained that I lived closer to the Maekawa Jusco, and had already looked there, though. I ended up talking to her for a while about clothes. I realize that salespeople have to be polite to me and all but it's nice when someone talks to me for real and doesn't once say either "your Japanese is really good" or try to use broken English or whatever. Anyway, I bought the brown shirt in size 17 -- it's still pretty nice and I can't complain about a dress shirt for 1900 yen.
For good measure I also bought a chopped fruit salad from the grocery store on the first floor of Jusco. A little old lady store clerk encouraged me to use the self-checkout machine, which was really funny. She was all explaining how it worked to me in Japanese and suddenly I see the "English" button and I change it over and sure enough it says everything she's been saying. We both had a pretty good laugh over that one.
I guess in the end everything worked out. Also, the fruit salad was really good. But, it's REALLY cold out now. It's actually supposed to go down to freezing tonight for the first time this year, I believe. Yikes.

Here in Purgatory it's been barely above freezing (sometimes below) during the day, and in the 20s at night, in that weird temperature scale. And the fact that it's almost always cloudy and gray makes it feel like it's about the teens.
Not much else to do besides cocoon, and procrastinate on studying for my finals. But I'll get a break from here soon enough. :P

He said: "We're never going to Japan." Heh.
Then I allowed as I'd probably also want some Japanese baseball jerseys, bento boxes and other bento supplies, and Katamari Damacy soundtracks. He said that would be better.
Of course I find his picking on me re liking all the goofy little toys etc. funny because one of my Xmas gifts for him (which we opened this weekend) was a Puchi Puchi keychain or cell phone charm thingie-- the electronic bubble wrap. Which he plays with all the time.
Maybe he was just objecting to the quantity, not the items. Since we have too much stuff.
Gosh, you mention "shopping" and that's where I go since we talked about this today. :-)

The only cellphone charms I have are baseball-related, although I have a LOT, probably like 7 or 8. I have 4 on my phone right now, 2 are broken, and one's just not on anything, and one's a backup. That's the real problem... they break too easily if you're always moving your phone in and out of pockets.
But, you should come visit if Lew Ford ends up on the Tigers. I'll even take you to a Tigers game! (but not at Koshien -- the seats are too small. We'd have to buy like 4 seats for 3 people just to make sure we'd have an extra space for stuff and leg room and all)
