Pretty awesome weekend

I want there to be entries, but don't want to write them.

Saturday I had work as usual. It was raining like hell all day, so I got home soaking wet and watched the end of the first game of the Japan Series and the Fighters won and I went to get lots of sushi at the 100-yen sushi place, and so on.

While shopping at Max Valu I ran into the Japanese lady who had stopped me to chat in English while walking home about a month and a half ago. I even remembered her name, so she was all like "we have to trade phone info and hang out sometime!!!" She has two kids and is very busy so who knows whether she'll follow up on that, but we talked for about 10 mins, so we'll see. Still sort of crazy luck that we met again, I think?

Oh, and I bought some Final Fantasy Potion drink while at the supermarket, and IT ROYALLY SUCKS. I have no clue whose idea it was to make a disgusting citrus beverage and market it as "Potion", but they were either completely brilliant or a complete retard.

Sunday I overdosed on baseball. Met up with Pau at Meiji Jingu around 12:30 and we watched the first game of this year's Soukeisen, aka the Waseda-Keio rivalry game. This is sort of like the equivalent of [pick two big college rivals' football game here]. They've had this baseball rivalry for over 100 years now, so the stadium was packed with students and alumni and various other people, and they had their marching bands and cheerleaders and whatnot. Waseda's starter was the "Handkerchief Prince", Saitoh Yuuki, so that brought even more attendance on the Waseda side, I'm sure. That's where we ended up sitting, anyway, in the outfield, and I got kind of sunburned since it was so bright. Keio's ace pitcher Katoh won the game in 12 innings, though, so it was pretty exciting.

After all that, we went to Yakiniku Erika, a 5-minute walk from Nippori Station, which is the restaurant owned by Fighters centerfielder Hichori Morimoto's parents. It was full of Fighters stuff and Fighters fans and I had a blast watching Game 2 of the series. For pictures and a more detailed account go look at the entry on Marinerds. Essentially I got somewhat drunk and babbled about the Fighters all evening with some crazy people who came down from Sapporo, who called me Sempai, which was pretty funny, and I had such a good time I forgot the Fighters lost. I even got a picture of myself taken with Hichori's dad, who gave us his business card and said to call next time for a reservation. Heh.

Monday I was all baseballed out so I went hunting for Mexican food. Well, first I did laundry in the morning, and you know, I left that stuff out all day to dry and it still hasn't. Sigh. Anyway, I ended up at El Torito, in Sunshine City in Ikebukuro, and it was actually pretty damn good. I nearly cried when I sat down and they gave me a basket of chips and salsa. I had a burrito combo plate and it really was pretty decent, for what I was expecting. Though I don't think they have sour cream or guacamole. Weird.

I stopped in Tokyu Hands randomly and found a skinhead cap and I think I'm going to try to be Hichori for halloween after all. I went looking for green wristbands after that but they were srprisingly elusive, it seems I might have to essentially make some. I even went to the Tokyo Dome to see if they had the official ones and they didn't. I did, however, end up helping out some Americans who were there looking for various Japanese baseball crap (and really had no clue about the NPB). The one guy said I should work at the Tokyo Dome, since obviously they have nobody to help out the Americans who come in asking stupid questions. Eh. After that I picked up a Japan Series program and some other stuff at Yamashita Books. Goddamn I love Yamashita.

I did some other shopping (I got some stuff to make wristbands at the 100-yen shop), and then I went down to Movix to see Hairspray. It was FANTASTIC! My only complaint at all is that Tracy and Link's relationship in this version seems a bit... bizarre. Like I just plain don't believe it, whereas at least in the stage version you sort of see them getting closer. And I also didn't think Penny's character was supposed to be QUITE so one-dimensional-sidekick-like. I liked a LOT of the random things they added to it though, and I thought the blocking of the musical numbers was just plain brilliant in general. A funny part was realizing that the Japanese people did not get most of the humor in the movie, because there were several times where I cracked up and the rest of the theater was silent. Either that or maybe they were too busy reading the subtitles. I also was thinking, of their cut songs, "eh, I didn't really miss them," and then as an added bonus they had those songs during the credits! (including apparently all three Tracys singing "Mama I'm a Big Girl Now") And the other new songs were also pretty good.

Yeah, good thing I saw it, though, I avoided Sangyo Doro going both ways -- the road I was hit by a truck on -- so it took like 25 mins each way to/from the theater rather than 10-15. Oh well.

Wow, the last hour or two went really quickly. I suck.

I actually liked that, because I approve of having the skinny blonde be the meek sidekick to the fat brunette. Take that, expectations!

Josh says hello. Wanted to know how you were doing.

They're selling Potion again? I bought one last year right before they quit selling them, and yeah... it tastes like shit. Also does not restore HP as advertised. No sound effects, no green numbers above my head...

In my experience, Japanese people don't do a lot of laughing or whatever in theaters. Nothing when I saw Constantine or Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Maybe I just ended up being with an audience of robots.

That post on marinerds is just about the best thing ever.
