Saturday carping
I didn't update last night because I was too busy just zoning out (this happens a bit lately; I'm too tired to write, but I'm too awake to sleep, and I just want to stare at the TV and/or read web pages and not really think), and then I realized that last time I didn't update at my normal time on a Saturday night, it was because I'd been hit by a truck. Whee.
Saturday classes went really well overall, there were a lot of people talking, and that's the good part. I gave out my hand-written meishi to two of my students who are going on trips abroad later in the month and said "SEND ME A POSTCARD! IT'S YOUR HOMEWORK!" I also managed to hijack the 2pm class with one of the students and spend most of the time talking about baseball. He said "I learned where all the American states and cities are because of the baseball teams," and I said "Well, I learned all the Japanese prefectures because of Koshien," and he said "Hmm, I think you win."
The first thing my 11am student said to me was, "You speak Japanese really well." "What?" "I called to cancel my class last week, and you answered the phone and talked to me in Japanese for a few minutes." "I know, I didn't know it was you at first!" "Your pronunciation is really good. I was surprised." "I think you speak English better than I speak Japanese, honestly... you have more vocabulary, even if my pronunciation is better."
I managed to get out of school at 5:25 -- the last weekend I can do that, starting next week I'll have a 6pm Saturday class and the week after that I'll also have a 7pm class (so if you're counting, that means I'll have students at 11, 12, 1, 2, 3 (technically), 4 (maybe, he is probably transferring schools), 6, and 7. BUSY DAY :(
I got down to the Tokyo Dome at 5:55, bought a B-seat, got into my seat at about pitch 3 of the game, before leadoff hitter and Hiroshima cutie Eishin Soyogi hit a pop fly out to short, and watched the game. I managed to sit 13 rows from the field a little past 3rd base, no joke -- I think single seats for unpopular games are still reasonable there. Despite being on the 3rd base side, I had two screaming Giants fan chicks on my left and two Giants fan guys on my right. I cheered for Hiroshima, and the Giants won, of course. Ogasawara hit a home run off his first pitch in the 1st inning, and to add insult to injury, he got his 1500th career hit in the 6th inning. I was ready to scream "YOU STUPID GIANTS FANS, HE GOT HIS FIRST 1335 WITH THE FIGHTERS, GRRRRR" but whatever. The Giants fans sitting to my right were reasonably nice and I spent some time talking to one of the guys, about retired numbers and some of the players and even about the music -- they played Zombie Nation, and Louie Louie, and I was just like "joudan janai yo!" "Eh? Nani ka?" and I explained I lived in Seattle, and Louie Louie is the song they play at EVERY MARINERS GAME.
Oddly, just like my first ever Giants game at the Dome in 2004, the winning pitcher and game hero was Hisanori Takahashi. Life is weird. The game was over at 8:23pm -- EXTREMELY fast for a Japanese game. I stopped in Ikebukuro on my way home for some food, went to my absolute favorite kaitensushi place in Tokyo, and as usual, it delivered on being absolutely wonderful, and before I knew it I ate like 9 plates and spent 1200 yen, but whatever.
Played a game of Pop'n when I got back to Warabi; noticed that my warmup 23 felt really easy, but that I still feel like 25's are a bit challenging, which is kind of frustrating. Eh. I think the goal is just to play a game of it as often as I can, and see if I can improve.
Today, I think I am going to head down to Yokohama and take in the Baystars-Swallows game. Still can't decide if I should bring my camera, since I don't know where I'll end up sitting. I'm thinking the camera's only worth it if I sit in FA, which costs like 4500 yen, and I'd rather sit in the outfield for 2200 or 1800 yen, since I'm spending a lot on baseball this weekend (3700 for the Giants ticket yesterday, 1500 to get to/from Yokohama today, and whatever I end up spending at Jingu tomorrow, plus maybe a game at Tokorozawa as well). Plus it's going to be fucking hot out so I probably don't want to deal with the camera anyway.
Another bruise has been forming on my right foot. I'm wondering if I should be worried about it or not... this makes me think back to when Dr. Bautista told me I had low platelets or something like that several months ago and I should be careful about a lot of bruising. Sigh.

Saturday carping
I spent my first Saturday carping in about a year this weekend.
